  • Vice or Virtue: Feeling Good With a Healthy Food Mindset

In this episode of the Really Personal Podcast, I want to share with you some of the most impactful changes that I’ve made over the years because it’s not an overnight process that has helped me get to this point where I just have a really balanced and effortless relationship with food.

Want to know how to have a healthy relationship with food? Balance is key! Before diving into forming a healthy mindset,

    • Stop labeling foods as good or bad.
    • Listen and respect your body’s natural hunger cues.
    • Don’t restrict foods: balance is key.
    • Don’t punish your body for eating.

One of the coolest things about the nutrition by addition framework is that you don’t have to give up any of the foods you love.  You can add to the foods that you enjoy to make them more filling and satisfying and to support your health goal.

    • If you love cinnamon buns or donuts in the morning, serve them with some scrambled eggs and berries.
    • If love enjoying a cookie with your afternoon snack, have some greek yogurt on the side.
    • If you’re a huge baked brie or love grazing the cheeseboard as much as me, fill up your plate with lots of veggies too

  • You Versus You: If We Don’t Prioritize Ourselves, Who Will?

We're squashing the "New Year, New You" trend by starting with a Healthy Mindset. Your number one competition is always yourself- you versus you.  No coach, no trainer, or no mentor can do it, only you versus you. It’s on you- only you are in charge of your happiness.

Creating new healthy goals for 2023 needs to begin with the way you speak to yourself. If you notice yourself sharing limiting statements, add the YET to the end to remind yourself that you are capable of learning and improving  (“I can’t manage all of my affairs this week… YET!")

Self-Talk Matters, which starts with reframing your inner monologue:

    • Avoid using absolutes like “never” or “always”
    • Change language intensity
    • Change from “why” to “what”
    • Refrain from “what if’s”

These techniques can have a powerful impact on your ability to self-regulate.

Get more tips on prioritizing yourself in healthy and successful ways!

  • The Things That Don’t Matter, Don’t Matter

As the New Year approaches, it’s important to focus on the things that really matter and let go of the things that don’t. Worry, stress, and anxiety can be overwhelming, but there are ways to cope. Find self-care strategies that work for you, such as writing in a journal, listening to a calming podcast, or meditating. Take time for yourself to focus on the positive and de-stress. Let go of the things that don’t matter and start the New Year with a sense of calm and motivation.

Stabilize your thoughts with these tools:

    • Journaling
    • Meditating
    • Going for a walk outside (or moving/stretching in any way)
    • Focus on gratitude (in fact, write them down in your Self-Care Planner!)
    • Affirm yourself

  • Rediscovering Your Identity: Long-Term Relationship Edition

Breakups suck, and the idea of living post-breakup often feels daunting and frightening. It's not the breakup that hurts the most- it's the post-trauma that follows it. You're back to square one, restarting your life only to simultaneously encounter doubt, lostness, and heartaches.

The hardest aspect of breaking up, especially after a long-term relationship, is not losing the person. It's the day you wake up realizing your feelings have changed and you now have the ability to move on.

We hold onto "letting go" because it is the last part of the heartbreak. Once that happens, reality sets in, and we are forced to begin that new chapter. It is the most painful yet transformational moment, but you have to decide: am I going to stay stuck in this cycle of grief and suffering, or am I going to accept reality for what it is and move on?

How to Heal After a Breakup

    • Focus on Yourself
    • Look Inward
    • Set Boundaries
    • Be Kind to Yourself

  • Make Yourself the Priority: Managing Boundary Pushers (ft. Gabrielle Bergeron)

Boundaries are an act of self-love, a way to establish mutual respect, a learned skill, and absolutely necessary. Boundary pushers, however, tend to create alternative definitions of boundaries as selfish, a form of punishment, and optional.

Boundaries are not hard to discover. Listening and staying in tune with your gut feelings and emotions will help you not only recognize them but also honor them. You can be a kind and caring person even by saying NO!

Letting someone run all over you is not love- it's submission. Boundaries serve a vital function of self-respect. Even when you can't control the surrounding situation, take a step back and know that you can choose where to direct your attention and energy- toward your well-being.

For those journal and self-care lovers out there, or those who want to embark on life changes, Life Journals and Prompts and Self-Care Planners are the perfect way to jump-start your writing meditation practices, to approach each day with intentions and gratitude. The planners include space to plan and record meals, habits, sleep, mood, water intake, exercise, and much more. With beautiful covers and pages waiting to be filled, Life Journals and Planners are a perfect tool for self-care and reflection.

  • Phrase Replacements in Relationships: What Works, And What Works Better

All of us want to be loved and understood. When someone isn’t understanding our viewpoints, ideologies, feelings, and emotions, we become frustrated with the process and resentful of that individual. It's definitely a hard pill to swallow to accept that not every single conversation is going to go your way, you’re not always going to be right, and not every single argument is an argument you need to win.

Have you adopted poor habits from previous relationships regarding arguing and communication?  In this episode of the Really Personal Podcast, we dive into the nitty-gritty of effective communication with loved ones, friends, and co-workers. Approaching 10 years of marriage, Carrie Taylor not only bestows some valuable wisdom but challenges us to look within, squash the ego, and focus on the achievements of peace and love.

  • Under Pressure: Societal Pressures Women Face & Who’s Holding Them Accountable

From a young age, women are placed in a specific timeframe: focus heavily on school, meet someone immediately, get married, have kids, and be good wives and mothers. Any divergence from this timeframe is considered detestable. While reaching academic heights is crucial to the elevation of the mind and soul, the other aspects of urgently meeting someone and getting married do in fact make us women feel miserable.

Christine Emba wrote a phenomenal and eye-opening book called Rethinking Sex: A Provation. Although this particular podcast doesn't dive into the much-needed conversation around feminine sexual awakenings, there's a beloved phrase that rings true in this podcast: "We're liberated, but we're miserable."

Societal pressures placed on women to fit specific, yet unwarranted roles have lasting effects. I was beyond intrigued to enter the recording studio with Mansi Baxi to discuss the pressures women are facing, how they started, where it has led us, and its lasting influences on our singlehood and dating relationships.

Getting rid of these primitive pressures by replacing them with liberating ideals with its primary focus to live fully and freely without the constraints of societal pressures often leaves us lost and unbounded. This is where boundaries play an enormous role.

It is a safe bet that every human being has been frustrated and heartbroken in their search for love, and a time comes when we reach a breaking point when we suddenly demand answers to our ill-fated quest for love. I highly recommend grabbing a journal, opening a Google Doc, or even a notepad on your phone, and writing down 100 traits that you would like to see in your next partner.

If we are to create positive social norms, especially for each other, then we can begin defining healthy motivations (not pressures) that not only make us feel safe and secure but also free to continue to thrive uninhibitedly in this world.
