We all spend way too much time judging ourselves, yet we get upset when others judge us. We should be upset about both & actually work towards lessening this habit & wanting to love ourselves more.
Show Notes:
I judge myself a ton because it allows me to pick everything apart & always have a reason for why I can’t do something, why I’m not good at something & provides a distraction for me to focus on, rather than understand why I am that why & what actually needs to be done about it.
I feel like this might become a rant, but I’m going to try hard to not let it be.
A lot of times we judge ourselves so harshly because we want to be in control of as many things as possible. Control is so comforting. It makes us feel like we know what’s going to happen & we don’t have to worry as much about what is going to happen, which can lessen anxiety.
But we also just set ourselves up with these crazy, high expectations that we really honestly know we won’t match up with, but it’s us saying, “why not? Let’s just be crazy,” and we set ourselves up for failure. It’s also a way for us to be in control of ourselves when we have these specific expectations for how we should behave, how we should feel things, basically how our life should go. Super realistic, right? These self-made ideals we know we won’t live up to create great opportunities to judge ourselves & the cycle goes on.
Do we understand that spending so much time judging ourselves is basically being at war with ourselves? Do we get that? I feel like we don’t because we just keep doing it. Like a truly bad habit. Spending so much time pointing out what we don’t like about ourselves, our lives & whatever season of life we are currently going through isn’t productive. You are really just complaining. If there is no action in the direction of change with this type of commentary, it’s really just complaining. So let’s be aware of at least that.
But we should also realize that when we spend the time & energy getting upset about others judging us & standing up for ourselves that way, we forget that this should also include the negative judgement we throw at ourselves on the regular. Constructive criticism? Yes, that’s actually helpful. But that’s different than berating yourself constantly for not meeting unrealistic expectations. We need to stop overlooking the judgement we press on ourselves because this negatively impacts our self-esteem & how we feel about ourselves.
I know I normally do a set of tips in most of my episodes & this episode will be no different, but these tips won’t be groundbreaking. These will be more reminder-ish & helpful to re-train your brain to lay up on the intense self-judgement.
I hope this was a helpful reminder session to treat yourself better.

Are you getting in your own way often enough that you are having trouble achieving your goals and having enjoyable days? You might be self-sabotaging without even knowing it because there are several behaviors many of us engage in that we don't even realize are self-sabotaging. Let's chat about it!
Show Notes:
There are certain things we don’t do for ourselves on purpose because we don’t think we have the time, the energy or believe we are worth it to do it for ourselves first. I fully subscribe to this way of thinking way too often, I will admit. It’s like I am, on purpose, making my life more difficult & painful because it feels like the easier way to go in the moment & overtime. These aren’t facts, by the way. It’s for sure a wrong way of thinking, for sure. But because I know I struggle with this & I know so many other people do too, I know we needed to talk about it.
A lot of us engage in self-sabotage without even realizing we are doing it. And just to be clear, self-sabotage is the idea that you are doing things that will cause you problems in your everyday life & get in the way of you achieving your goals. Two of the top ways we will self-sabotage is by procrastinating & trying to be perfect. One of these is impossible & the other is something that is generally stemmed from fear of not being perfect and failing to people please the best we can. And these are super valid ways of self-sabotage we need to address, if that is where our struggles lie, but I really want to dive into a few others that we might not realize are self-sabotaging behaviors.
Awareness is the ultimate key, right? If we are aware of what we need to work on, what needs to get better, what needs to be toned down, we can become our best selves & continue to move on in our individual journeys the most prepared. And I know awareness isn’t going to fix everything. Of course you need to put action behind that, but at least being aware & acknowledging what work needs to be done, you’re on the right track. This is another reason I wanted to talk about a few self-sabotaging behaviors we may not realize are getting in our way to be our best selves.
Today I want to share with you 5 self-sabotaging behaviors that we need to become aware of in our lives, acknowledge that these things need to go & put the work into eradicating these behaviors from our lives.
Hopefully, these behaviors will give you something to think about & maybe consider changing in your life, once you realize you deserve to be treated better by yourself.

We all have bad days. We also have those moments we struggle to move forward from these experiences and would rather sink into a pit of despair. But I'm here to share with you 7 reminders that will help you avoid the self-sabotage tendencies & time spent dwelling on those bad moments & experiences.
Show Notes:
Everyone has bad days. There is no debating that. And yeah, you can make the most of everything happening, focus on what you do have in life & everything you can be grateful for, but sometimes you just need to do more than that.
Life isn’t perfect and we all know this. But the fact that we all know this means we need to stop expecting it to be perfect, as well. You can’t know something to be true but still expect the opposite. It’s not logical. But we do it & it really only hurts yourself.
And the last thing you want to do on your bad days is make it worse for yourself & feel like you are sinking deeper into the hole of despair. And it can be really tough to come up with something encouraging in the moment of dealing with our bad days, which is why I wanted to talk about some good reminders to tuck into the back of your mind for the next time we have to deal with this inevitable experience.
But before we jump into my reminders, just know that the old phrase that life is 10% of what happens to you & 90% how you react to everything. This phrase is very true. Sometimes the easiest way to turn your day around is to not give life to your initial reaction. Take a breath & figure out what reaction would serve you best in that moment.
I’m going to share 7 reminders with you today to have in the back of your mind or write down right now and keep somewhere you look often, so you can reflect on these reminders to get you out of your funk.
Let me know which reminder you liked best or one of your own! I’d love to hear it in my IG DMs or send me an email!

Feeling discouraged is totally normal, but many of us don't know how to move forward from those feelings & not let these emotions hold us in a pit of despair. Today I want to talk about what we can do about feeling discouraged & how normal this is.
Show Notes:
I feel discouraged all the time. I’m not kidding. It can eat me up sometimes, too, because I let it affect me too much & be too important in the moment, meaning nothing else matters & I’m now in a bad mood. And it’s heavy, you know? It feels like a heavy burden that brings sadness & this feeling of being stuck in life. I don’t like it.
But being discouraged is something we all suffer from, some more than others because we let it affect us deeper & more often. But still another universal problem. And a problem & experience I find interesting because once you feel discouraged about one thing, it is so easy to pile on even more things to be discouraged about. It’s apparently our negativity bias pushing us to really lean into the negative things happening around us & only acknowledge those things. I can also see this as being blinded by the bad things we experience. It’s easy to do & hard to pull away from.
We allow ourselves to be discouraged because it’s easier than pulling ourselves up & understanding that not everything is going to happen on our timeline or the way we want it to. We get discouraged because we have put certain rules in place in our lives of what it means to be happy, accomplished, successful, fulfilled, worthy, loved, ect. This is the issue.
We get wrapped up in being in control of our lives so much that we don’t allow room for error or just life to be life & surprise us & take us on the unknown journey. We are kind of setting ourselves up for failure this way because if we determine what set of circumstances need to happen for us to feel accomplished or happy & those things don’t happen, then we feel discouraged. Or if we feel like we did everything right but still didn’t get the job or keep the boyfriend or girlfriend or get chosen to do something amazing, then we feel discouraged. The danger of playing by these rules is also that we may never realize we are successful or on the right path because we are so distracted by feeling down about not meeting our own unrealistic expectations. And if you didn’t know these were unrealistic, now you do.
Today I want to share with you 5 ways to get through feeling discouraged so you don’t get stuck in that loop of sadness & chasing unrealistic expectations:
Hopefully these tips will be helpful to you when dealing with feeling discouraged & down on yourself.

We all make mistakes! But we don't all know what to do after the mistake happens. We have trouble moving forward & not allowing the negative experience to take over our mind & cause us to fall into a pit of shame & feel defined by the mistake. Let's chat about what to do to move forward after making a mistake.
Show Notes:
Every single person in the world has made a mistake. And if they tell you they didn’t, they are straight-up lying to you. But I don’t think anyone could actually say that with a straight face, unless they are pushing the blame for their mistake onto someone else, but that’s a different problem.
Mistakes are something we all have to deal with, but some of us struggle more than others on how to recover & handle the situation. It can be overwhelming to deal with mistakes when you are a people pleaser or a perfectionist or just someone that allows shame to hang on you. And I am one of these people, so don’t worry if you are, too. Many of us are.
And something I talk about all the time is that mistakes are one of the greatest experiences for us to learn from because it forces the learning opportunity, rather than waiting for us to take it upon ourselves. And I know it’s rarely fun to learn something that way, but it is the most impactful. I think we can all agree to that deep down inside ourselves. Getting through these situations also demonstrates so much strength, too. So remember that next time you are hating your current experience. You are gonna be so much stronger for it.
Today I want to talk about what we can do after we make a mistake. The idea of my suggestions of what to do after the mistake occurs is to help you get past the experience itself & not dwell on what happened and what you did or didn’t do to contribute to the situation. Take the lesson you learned & move forward. It’s for your own good, your own health, your own sanity.

It can be so easy to get caught up in our thoughts & think those need to rule us, when it's the opposite. We need to not let our thoughts hold us captive, but give us the opportunity to see things in different lights & make the best decision for us.
Show Notes:
There have been so many times where I get so caught up with what I am thinking & convincing myself that those thoughts I am having are real facts. Things that actually will control me & dictate what I have to do & not do. But this isn’t true. We are in complete control of whether we act on our thoughts or not, whether we let these things rule our lives or if we just have those things as considerations in our mind among the many thoughts we have to mull over.
I get caught up in my thoughts all the time because I’m a perfectionist & a people pleaser, so I don’t want to make the wrong decision, say the wrong thing or look stupid in front of someone because I didn’t know what the right thing to say was. And having to wade through all these thoughts in my mind can really cause me to spiral if I’m not careful. And I know I’m not the only one that struggles with this.
And you what else can make dealing with your thoughts really tough? All the external influences we receive from the world. It can come from friends, family members, social media, work or wherever else & get us to be even more confused & caught up in our head.
Today I want to remind you of 5 important truths about your thoughts that can really help you not get caught up & held prisoner by these:
Keep these things in mind next time you struggle with your thoughts.

Deciding to take a break or a step back from people & responsibilities in our life can be one of the hardest things ever. Especially when pride is involved. But that's why I want to encourage you to take a break & share some signs that will alert you of when you really need to take a step back.
Show Notes:
I decided to take a break with pumping out episodes for this show because my life was kind of spiraling. I was feeling super overwhelmed with my day job, with my responsibilities at home in regards to my daughter & husband & following my passions, like this podcast & posting encouragements on my Instagram page. But this show is not something I am willing to give up.
This brings me so much happiness, joy & fulfillment to share helpful knowledge with others that I knew I wasn’t just done with it, I just needed to take a step back. I just needed a break. This is why I thought it would be perfect to talk about how to know when you need a break. Because we all need a break at some point.
Now, I believe we all know we need a break at some point or another, but we don’t take the break because we don’t recognize those feelings as real or the need for a break as necessary or we are too proud to take the break because we don’t want others to think less of us or even ourselves. Ego is definitely involved here sometimes. But we know that this is what gets us in trouble.
We don’t just accept that we need time away from whatever it is. It can be work, it can be friends, family, hobbies, responsibilities. And these don’t necessarily have to be things that we don’t like & enjoy. These can be things we love dearly, but still need some time away for a refresh.
I don’t think we only need to take a step back from things that bother us or things we don’t really enjoy doing but have to do. It’s completely normal to step back from people & activities that are closest to our heart because those things can still cause us to feel stressed and/or overwhelmed. And that’s ok.
If you get nothing but me telling you that it’s actually ok for you to take a break from these things, I’ll be happy. It’s the biggest point I want to get across. And there will be people in your life that won’t understand this, but that’s not important. Everyone has an opinion & that’s fine. But it doesn’t mean you have to accept it or live your life by it.
Let me share with you some signs that you may need to step back & take a break from whatever’s going on in your life:

We all carry things around with us that aren't really helpful or beneficial to our lives in terms of growth & opportunity. If anything, you are holding yourself captive to something that just causes negative feelings. Let's chat about what we should be letting go of.
Show Notes:
Life is heavy. It’s also overwhelming, burdensome & just a lot. But we have to find a way to get through these times & every other time in our lives. And I think one of the best ways to do this is by making the conscious decision to let some unnecessary things go.
And when I say you have to make a conscious decision, you really have to make that decision & it has to be real, no faking, even to just yourself. You need to be dead honest with yourself & just finally let some stuff go that really isn’t help you grow, thrive, change & continue moving in the right direction. You gotta keep it moving, but that’s hard to do when you’re carrying things that don’t matter.
And before we get into some suggestions I have for what you should let go of, it’s important for you to spend some time to really think about why you are continuing to drag this mess around with you. Think about what you think you’re gaining from keeping this with you. And honestly, the most frequent answer you will come up with is that it’s not worth it, it’s a waste of energy to have to drag it around & you aren’t benefiting from it.
So let’s chat about some things that I believe we should let go of:

Therapy is one of the best things ever, no matter what's going on in your life. But I do think by adding in a few other practices to double-down on the healing can be super helpful.
Show Notes:
Most of us know therapy can be super helpful for so many things in our life. I am making it one of my missions in life to convince everyone that therapy is a totally normal thing to add into your life, no matter what’s going on in your life. But I do want you to know that there are other things you can do in addition to therapy.
And I want to make sure you know I am not suggesting these things to do instead of therapy, but in addition. Add it in between therapy sessions & whenever you need it because it’s that supplement to make your healing journey even better.
I also want to mention that sometimes when we are in therapy, we sometimes don’t feel like we are making much progress in what we are trying to heal, so by adding other things in & maybe seeing growth & progress a little sooner, you feel better about how you are moving along in your healing journey.
So today I want to share with you some ways to help you heal in addition to therapy:

It can be so wonderful when others reach out & offer their help & assistance. This is why we should do the same for others! It can be so helpful & rewarding, which is why I want to share some tips with you on how you can achieve this!
Show Notes:
I know I talk a lot about how we can work on ourselves & how to be there to better our own mental health, but I think it would also be helpful to know ways that we can help others with their mental health.
Whether people acknowledge it or not, everyone appreciates the help that others offer. Your help may not be met with open arms, but it’s still appreciated & the right thing to do. Preparing yourself with different ways to be there for others is so important because it shows you care & are willing to be there for them, whether they want it or not.
There have been many people in my life that have offered to help me with some mental health issues I have run into & for a long time, I would always tell them ‘no’ & that I got this, but a lot times this wasn’t true. And I really appreciated those same people & others continually come to me & offer to help me because this continued offer of help is what drove me to finally ask for help with things that were really outside of my control.
And I know we shouldn’t go around expecting that type of behavior because some people will take you at your word & just stop asking, but it’s wonderful when others & new people do continue to put that offer out there. And you can be that person, too, that is offering help to others & possibly there when they finally accept it.
So today, let’s chat about some great ways for you to help others with their mental health:
1. Practice Active Listening & Give Accepted Hugs
2. Learn More About What They’re Going Through.
3. Celebrate Their Small Wins
4. Avoid Comparisons.
5. Respect Their Limits & Boundaries.
6. Keep Communication Open.
7. Offer to Help with Different Tasks, But Not Force.
