  • When to Say 'Yes' - Personal Boundaries

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Wednesday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Personal Boundaries

Personal boundaries are key is establishing & maintaining stability within mental health. Knowing how to create & maintain boundaries are also skills that will become invaluable & crucial to daily happiness & self-acceptance.

Here are some great ideas on how to create, improve & maintain Personal Boundaries!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • When it comes to healthy boundaries, there are so many things you can say ‘yes’ to.
    • Jumping in with examples from the start: Telling others how you want to be treated, especially if they are treating you badly. I feel like this one could have been put in both the ‘yes’ and ‘no’ categories, but it’s an empowering thing, so I thought it best suited being in the ‘yes’ discussion.
    • Communicating your thoughts and feelings goes right along with this, as well. Have the courage & strength to stand up for yourself & tell others how you feel.
    • Allow others to make their own decisions. This harkens back to not feeling responsible for other people’s feelings and actions. You are not in charge of them, even if they want you to be. Being in a codependent relationship can cause many heavy burdens.
    • And yes, be comfortable knowing that not everyone has to agree with you, nor you with them and that’s fine. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion & that is really what helps this world become more diverse.
    • Keeping a regular routine is also a ‘yes’ as it will help you feel safe & in control of something. Don’t let someone get in the way of your routine if it’s what really sets you up for a good day.

  • When to Say 'No' - Personal Boundaries

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Tuesday!

    • If you are a People Pleaser like me, you KNOW it’s super tough to say ‘no’. Like, almost impossible. And if you DO say ‘no’ you are EASILY convinced otherwise.
    • And sometimes you might think you don’t need to say ‘no’ because you actually really want to do something, be involved & participate, but it’s important to know our bandwidth and what we can actually do & what will be good for us.
    • It’s a little easier to say ‘no’ to things you don’t want to do, but for things that have your interest, a struggle can with it.
    • Just make the decision that will be best for you & your mental health.
    • Make sure you are evaluating whether you have the resources, mentally or physically, to participate in whatever it is.
    • In addition to saying ‘no’ it’s just important to know that it’s okay to turn things down, walk away from uncomfortable situations & make the best choice for you.
    • Some examples: Feel free to leave situations that may be harmful to you, physically or mentally.
    • Know it’s ok to not need to change, fix or rescue others from difficult problems, even if they really want your assistance. This may not be a healthy situation for you to be involved with.
    • In addition to this, remember that others are not responsible for your feelings, joy, happiness. Even if they are trying to take up that job & burden (yes, it’s a burden), do not let them. That is not their responsibility & you shouldn't let it be.
    • Remember you are allowed to have your own personal space and privacy. You do not have to let anyone in if it will be too damaging to you. But remember to keep balance between privacy & having relationships where some things are shared.
    • And, as a random note, it’s a good idea to say ‘no’ to gossip and talking behind people’s backs. You wouldn’t want it done to you so don’t do it to others.

  • What Are Personal Boundaries? - Personal Boundaries

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Monday!

    • Personal boundaries are the limits we set for ourselves within relationships.
    • Someone with healthy boundaries can easily say ‘no’ to things & feel good about it.
    • The ability to make decisions based on what is best for you and not based on how it will affect the other person is key.
    • There are 3 types of personal boundaries that I want to mention, just to understand how there are multiple levels & how each one depends on the setting & situation you are in.
    • The types of boundaries are: healthy boundaries (most sought after), hard boundaries (super ridgid & controlled rules) & soft boundaries (basically not really boundaries).
    • Let’s start with Soft Boundaries. These are the types of boundaries (again, not really boundaries) where it is really hard to say ‘no’ to other’s requests, overly involved with other’s problems, dependent on others opinions, accepts abuse & disrespect, and serious fear of rejection.
    • Next up, Hard Boundaries. Traits of this type of boundary are avoiding intimacy & personal relationships, won’t ask for help, protective of personal information, no real close friendships or relationships, keeps people at a distance to avoid rejection & can be detached, even in romantic relationships.
    • Lastly, the type of boundaries everyone should seek to have, Healthy Boundaries. This will include being able to say ‘no’ to others & accept when others say ‘no’ to them, confident in their own opinions, no compromising values for others, no over or under sharing of personal info, and the ability to communicate personal wants & needs to others.
    • Knowing your personal limits will help you live a more balanced life emotionally.
    • It will also prevent you from going beyond your zone of comfort & stand up for yourself if others do violate these boundaries.
    • The main thing about having boundaries is the ability to live your life the way you want to without feeling guilty about it. The key to this is maintaining your boundaries.
    • I hope you are excited to explore more about personal boundaries this week & break down more specific examples & solutions for creating & maintaining your boundaries.

  • How to Up Your Patience Game - Patience

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Friday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Patience!

Patience is a skill that every single one of us needs & can work on. Practicing patience within different parts of our lives may seem easy, but it's important to think about how we act while practicing it & evaluate if it was worth it for our desired outcome. Whether or not you feel like you are winning at the patience game, please join me this week for some tips on how to dominate this skill!

Here are some great ideas on how to become better at practicing patience!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • Define what your goal is & be sure it is something you actually want.
    • There is nothing worse than putting some much time & effort into something & using up all your patience on something you aren’t that passionate about.
    • And if you want to be super dedicated to creating the best goals, you should do it using the SMART method (created by BryanWrightTLS).
    • The SMART Method says goals should be: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant & Timely.
    • Also break down your goals into smaller sections so that it is more attainable.
    • Another tip is to change your perspective. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself to do everything perfect from the first time. That right there is setting unrealistic expectations.
    • This is also pertinent when other people are involved. Think of it from their perspective of them trying their best to help/serve you & think how grateful they may be if you continue to practice patience with them.
    • Identify your triggers that cause you to not be patient. Triggers are conditions that elicit a response. Examples are: being tired, hungry, talking about a sensitive subject, getting your feelings hurt, ect.
    • Identifying your triggers will help you become more self aware & prevent yourself from acting out in a negative way.
    • Lastly, take time to actually enjoy the process. Enjoy the journey.

  • Benefits of No Longer Being Patient - Patience

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Thursday!

    • Sometimes it’s no longer worth it to practice patience for something if your desired outcome is well overdue or you are suffering for no reason.
    • Examples of this: Staying at a terrible job for too long, staying in a bad relationship for too long or even missing out on another opportunity because we waited too long for something else.
    • An unexpected benefit of being impatient is that you get to learn from any mistakes you may have made from not being patient long enough. This isn’t generally what you want, but it’s still important to learn from the situation.
    • You will be able to become more patient by reviewing what caused you to become impatient & what to avoid or overcome for the future.

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • One of the best things to come from being patient is being more present in the moment.
    • Also, becoming a better active listener can also be a benefit gained from practicing patience.
    • Not trying to rush through everything & fulfill our instant gratification desires can help us slow down & enjoy whatever journey we are on.
    • Being patient will teach you to let go of the things you cannot control. We cannot control everything in our lives & it’s important to know this fully.
    • And if you are debating whether that is true or not, please ask yourself these questions to determine your answer: Is it realistic that you can control the current situation? & Is it realistic that not practicing patience in this situation will get you what you want?
    • Patience will also force you to slow down & receive blessings & opportunities you may not have otherwise have gotten by flying right by everything.
    • Having more compassion & kindness towards others is a byproduct of becoming more patient, as well.
    • Kindness goes a long way (something I talk about a lot and will be spending a whole week on in the future) & can really influence someone’s day.
    • Giving someone grace goes along with this, because by being more patient with someone you are extending grace to them.

  • Why Are You Impatient? - Patience

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Tuesday!

    • I learned something very interesting about being impatient - it doesn’t derive directly from not being patient. It actually comes from being pushed to take action when something we want to accomplish is going to take more work than we first anticipated.
    • This means that being impatient isn’t necessarily a negative thing all the time. It can be, but I will get to that in a bit.
    • We can become impatient if there is a secondary choice we could be making instead of waiting for the thing we are being patient for.
    • And being impatient can help us decide whether we should continue being patient in what we are currently doing & keep pushing on that goal or to change course if we think it’s worth changing up your plan.
    • I personally believe that impatience becomes negative when it’s driven by an intense emotion.
    • Is your impatience due to anxiety? Anger? Being too used to instant gratification?
    • One of the best ways to start your journey to overcoming impatience is to ask yourself why you are feeling this way. Consider what emotions, like some of the ones I just listed, are driving this train of thought & where those emotions came from.
    • It’s also important to ask yourself if continuing on with your goal is still worth being patient for? Are you still going to get the same amount of joy & return out of it as you originally thought? Is this goal still important to achieve?
    • The last question to ask yourself is if additional obstacles have come up, making it less worth your time, effort & patience.
    • Just remember that whatever decision you make, it should be based on whatever works best for you. Don’t worry if you put all this time & effort into something that you end up cutting short or realizing is not worth your time any longer because again, it’s about what is best for you & your goals & priorities.
    • But the biggest suggestion I want to hammer home is to go through this questioning to make the best decision that you will not regret.

  • What Does It Mean to be Patient? - Patience

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Here are some great ideas on how to become better at practicing patience!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • One of the best quotes I have heard about patience is from Joyce Meyer, “Patient is not simply the ability to wait, it’s how we behave while we’re waiting.”
    • Sometimes it’s necessary to endure some short term discomfort for long term success & satisfaction.
    • We live in a world driven by instant gratification that having patience for things can be tough if we don’t force ourselves to slow down & enjoy where we are & what we are working on at the moment.
    • Patience can also mean being better at active listening, which means to not always jump ahead in your mind on what you response will be to someone. Instead, you will listen intently & THEN form a response based on what that person said.

  • Get Out of Bed & Get Ready for the Day - Meaningful Morning Routine

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Friday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: How to Create A Meaningful Morning Routine

I know a morning routine may not be for everyone, but it has been proven to be extremely helpful with those that suffer from anxiety, depression, BPD & several other mental health struggles. In general, having a routine is helpful for mental stability & setting yourself up for success & a positive mindset.

Here are some ideas on how to create a meaningful morning routine that helps me best.

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • This is especially true if you work from home. I know it can be tempting to just sit in bed & scroll on your phone for an hour & then fall back asleep, but it’s necessary that you get up, get dressed, maybe do your hair & face routine & feel ready for the day. You will feel more productive just getting ready, even if you go nowhere.
    • And maybe you don’t need to get all the way ready every single day, especially if most of your day is spent at home.
    • You can have different levels of getting ready, as long as it includes changing your clothes, getting a shower in, brushing your teeth and maybe combing your hair.
    • Getting ready can be one of the best things to do to get you out of a funk.
    • If you are having a terrible day, woke up on the wrong side of the bed, not feeling well, try to gussy yourself up a bit.
    • Since quarantine started, if I just simply put a bra on and wash my face and fix my hair before I sit down at my desk to work, I feel a million times better.
    • Now maybe you’re like, Ok, I will shower, but I want to stay in pajamas. Ok, do that, but don’t spend all day in bed.
    • Makes sure you get up and move to a different spot in your home and try to separate your bed from work (if that’s what you are doing) or to just separate sleeping venue from living & waking venue.

  • Practice Daily Mindfulness Activities - Meaningful Morning Routine

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Thursday!

    • Examples of these are journaling, reading a daily devotional (The Confident Woman by Joyce Meyer is a great one), write down a list of things you are grateful for, ect.
    • Spending any amount of time reflecting on your thoughts is beneficial to you.
    • One of my favorite mindfulness activities is to sit down and fill in my planner at the beginning of my day.
    • My planner has a section for journaling/note-taking, as well as a spot to list gratitudes, daily mood, current goals, ect.  and I love it. I truly feel mindful and take some time to think deeply about what is going on for the day, how my goals are coming along and what I can look forward to and plan for.
    • I usually spend about 15 minutes on it, which I find to be enough.
    • Another activity I do (if I remember - still a habit in progress) is to read a page out of my devotional. It’s so helpful to get another perspective & insight from someone else and have something other than my own thoughts to reflect on.
    • But, if there is anything you are going to do for a mindfulness activity, I highly recommend making gratitude lists. Listing out a few things you are truly grateful, no matter how small or big, every single day will help your perspective on life & shift your mindset in you’re in a funk.
    • I know some people consider working out and running to be mindfulness activities and if that is your jam and it helps you to reflect and be mindful, do it!
    • Do whatever works best for you!
