  • Drink Your Water - Meaningful Morning Routine

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Wednesday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: How to Create A Meaningful Morning Routine

I know a morning routine may not be for everyone, but it has been proven to be extremely helpful with those that suffer from anxiety, depression, BPD & several other mental health struggles. In general, having a routine is helpful for mental stability & setting yourself up for success & a positive mindset.

Here are some ideas on how to create a meaningful morning routine that helps me best.

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • Obvious tip & something everyone says, but it’s true & necessary. I like to start my day with a big cup of water and try to make it to a gallon by the end of the day.
    • It even just feels like the best way to start my day and helps to get my digestion going.
    • The benefits of drinking water are almost endless, but let me name a few for you: improves circulation, elevates energy & alertness, clears skin, prevent headaches and assists your digestive system.
    • I personally have taken up the challenge of drinking a gallon of water every single day, just to make sure I get enough water in.
    • If this is a goal you are interested in, I highly suggest getting a water bottle that fits a whole gallon or at least half a gallon to make it easier to keep track and have tons of water on hand.
    • I definitely feel a difference when I stay hydrated. I don’t get as tired and it helps to fill me up so I don’t snack as much,
    • And while you’re at it, take a look at what you eat for breakfast & throughout the day. Eat whatever is best for you, but I encourage you to add in some whole foods, like fruits & veggies.
    • As I’m sure you know, everything you put into your body has an effect on you. If we can do our best to eat well & stay hydrated, it’s one of the best things we can do for ourselves.

  • Enjoy the Morning Daylight & Get Some Exercise - Meaningful Morning Routine

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Tuesday!

    •  I love to throw open the living room drapes and just soak in the sun for a moment before I get started on work. It gives me some energy to start the day with (I’m not a normal coffee drinker) & reminds me to be grateful for another day to be alive (cheesy yes, but important).
    • If you have the opportunity to get outside and be in the morning air, I would suggest this. I generally only do this when I am letting the dog out in the morning, but it’s still enjoyable.
    • I am more of someone who likes to open the shades and soak in the sun that way, like a cat, kind of.
    • I know a lot of people like to take walks in the morning to get them going, which is also something that I would recommend.
    • Before quarantine, I would get up every morning before work and go to the gym.
    • This was one of my favorite ways to wake-up and get the day going.
    • I know not everyone is a morning workout person (I used to not be & only exercised at night), but I do believe everyone should give it a chance.
    • I spent a long time working out after work or right before I would go to bed and it really got in my way of everything else I prefer to do in the evening.

  • Plan your Day the Night Before or Right When You Wake-Up - Meaningful Morning Routine

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Monday!

    • Doing it the night before will make one less thing you have to think about, but doing it in the morning will allow you to start your day feeling productive & excited for what you get to do.
    • Choose what would work best for you. Always remember when choosing to create a routine or something you intend to follow, do what will help you best, not what someone else tells you (including me) or what works best for someone else only.
    • Planning your day the night before will allow you to have some more time in the morning to do something else that is important to you. It’s less to think about & you can kind of just jump in on your day.
    • You can also go to bed knowing that you have a majority of things planned out and ready to take on.
    • The benefits of planning your day in the morning after you wake-up is having the clarity of the day at hand, knowing your mood and how you should go about things.
    • At night you might think you’ll know how you feel, but maybe you wake up sick or in a funk, so planning in the morning allows you to plan around that and not have to replan your day because you originally did it at night.
    • And I’m not saying you should plan in the morning so that it solely revolves around your mood, because a lot of times we have to get stuff done despite how we feel, but that it can be helpful if your schedule allows it.
    • Another benefit of planning your day in the morning is the ability to set a mindset for your day based on what needs to get done.
    • And it doesn’t matter how you plan out your day. It can be a simple checklist, detailing in a planner, saved somewhere in your phone, or whatever fits your lifestyle.
    • No matter how you decide to plan out your day, it’s important to try and track all your days in the same spot so you have the ability to review back and see what needs to be carried over from another day or how you are doing on completing a goal.

  • Emotional Intelligence - Emotions

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Friday!

This week our theme for the podcast is: Emotions

Emotions can be a tricky thing to navigate and understand, which is why I want to spend some time breaking down how to identify if you are struggling with something specific and my advice on how to tackle it for the better.

Here are some thoughts & encouragement on how to combat tough emotions.

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • Being emotionally intelligent is one of those things that will help you become your best self all around on the regular. It will help you be able to manage yourself and your relationships.
    • Things that are encompassed within being emotionally intelligent is to be self-aware, self-motivated, ability to manage your own emotions, social skills & social awareness.
    • I have already talked about being self aware on Monday, so if you’d like to hear more about that, please check out that podcast. But basically being self-aware it involves understanding your own emotions, thought processes & having a proper self-assessment.
    • Being self-motivated involves just having the initiative to go after opportunities and do what needs to be done. It also includes the drive to meet your own personal expectations, which is important.
    • Being able to manage your own emotions is important because you make decisions based on what you think the outcome will be & how it will affect those around you. Responsibility is wrapped up in there, too.
    • Having basic social skills on how to communicate with others, be a leader in your community, work within a team, and even conflict management.
    • Lastly, social awareness is important because it involves empathy, serving and helping others and understand how the community you live in works and how it can work to help you.
    • In the end, being emotionally intelligent will help you be the best person you can be and have the mindset you need to achieve what you are working towards.

  • Anger - Emotions

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Thursday!

    • Anger is another thing that I grew up learning how to be all too well.
    • I grew up being taught that anger is the emotion that will get things done, which I hate.
    • I have gotten anger under control a lot easier than some other emotions, but it for sure took some time & focus.
    • Anger is generally an emotion that people use to mask deep feelings that are going on.
    • Anger could also be fueled by other emotions below the surface, like jealousy, shame and loneliness.
    • Anger is volatile and can hurt everything around us.
    • If you struggle with anger, I have a few tips to help with the management of it.
    • First off, it’s important to learn the warning signs on when you are about to get anger and wanting to spew it everywhere. For me, I can physically feel it bubbling in my body & that’s how I know I need to take a step back.
    • Which leads me to my second suggestion, which is to take a step back from the situation & breath, if possible.
    • Another tip that works the best for me is to exercise. I just feel like all the pent up energy and stress inside me can be released by weightlifting and moving my body. Not only is it an outlet for anger & stress, but I am still doing something good for myself.
    • My last suggestion is to express your anger in an assertive way, not confrontational. Get out what you need to say so that an actual resolution can come from it. It’s also important to think about the repercussions of what being angry would be for you.
    • And as always, there is always to option to reach out for professional help.

  • Depression - Emotions

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Wednesday!

    • Let's start by talking about how depression is something that can easily be hidden.
    • It’s also something that affects people differently, as with most mental health struggles, but there are some commonalities.
    • There are so many small characteristics that can be identified as having depression without the typical outward appearance of being sad or down or blue.
    • Simply the need to worry & control your environment is a clue to someone possibly having depression.
    • Focusing on the well-being of others but keeping your inner world a secret is another one. You don’t want anyone to know what is truly going on with you.
    • Depression can also cause you to have both bad & good days. It’s not just all terrible days, there can be some days in there that are fine, manageable & that give you the energy to keep going.
    • Something that I can identify with is acting out recklessly to cope with what’s happening & what you are feeling. I have done this in the form of shopping, going off in a rage, saying things I seriously regret, things like that.
    • And lastly, the biggest tell is withdrawing from everyone and this includes withdrawing from things you actually love to do, too. You don’t want to be around anyone, maybe because you don’t want to burden others or you don’t think they will understand, ect.
    • Let me give you some ideas on how to overcome & combat depression!
    • One of my favorite things to do is to get outside and be in the sunshine. Even if it’s not super sunny, just a clear day can be so beneficial. I feel like getting outside in the sun re-energizes me.
    • Something else that is helpful is doing your best to stay connected. I, myself, have a really bad habit of disconnecting myself from people in my life, but I also feel so great after I spend time in person or on the phone with those people I am closest to.
    • Another practical suggestion is to make sure you are getting quality sleep & exercise.  I ALWAYS feel great after I exercise. I feel accomplished & proud & ready to take on other things in my life.
    • Something I mention all the time is to have a mantra or a place where you store motivational content, things that encourage you & give you a little hope when you feel like you’re in a dark place.
    • My last suggestion and something I also mention all the time is to seek out professional help. It’s never too late & for sure not something to be ashamed about.

  • Anxiety - Emotions

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Tuesday!

    • Anxiety is something I struggle with on the daily. And sometimes my anxiety turns into a panic attack and everything feels downhill from there. But it’s not if you can learn how to recover from these feelings.
    • First off, anxiety can look different for everyone, but I wanted to highlight a few symptoms that can help you identify if you are struggling with anxiety & maybe don’t know it.
    • If you are constantly worrying about everything, you are struggling with anxiety. Not being able to set your worry aside & relax can be very exhausting & press non-stop stress.
    • An increase in negativity & irritability can be a que that you are struggling with anxiety. Anxiety can really turn people inward, so thinking that people are against you and seeing everything as dark, negative and hopeless coincides with these feelings.
    • Difficulty sleeping is another symptom. Every once in a while not sleeping well is one thing, but if it is happening all the time because you can’t turn your brain off worrying over things is a whole other thing.
    • Trouble concentrating is a big one. If you cannot focus on one thing because your brain is going back and forth from thought to thought, then anxiety could definitely be an issue,
    • The last one I want to highlight is feeling out of control and sometimes transitioning into uncontrollable panic attacks.
    • When you let your anxiety take control of you, you literally are not in control.
    • Feeling overwhelmed with so many things to do and not being able to really express how you feel can cause you to experience that out of control feeling.
    • Anxiety is manageable, but you have to know you can get through each day if you take it day by day & seek help if you need it.
    • Some things that help me manage my anxiety are: find a way to ground yourself/come back to baseline, learn your triggers, keep everything in perspective, focus on the present, focus on what you CAN control and find a distraction.
    • Anxiety is normal, nothing you should be ashamed of & again, very manageable.

  • Becoming Self Aware - Emotions

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Monday!

    • Becoming more self aware will assist you in knowing your thought patterns, feelings and behaviors better so you can be more productive & efficient in your life.
    • One of the best things that being self aware will help with is taking more responsibility for your actions, not blame people for your own failures and stop you from projecting your insecurities onto others.
    • You will also become more compassionate & forgiving of others in your life and yourself.
    • It’s such a great way to focus & work on yourself that will also give you some insight.
    • One way to become more self aware is to start journaling. This could be done by just recording your daily thoughts, physically writing it down in a notebook, typing it up on a computer/phone/tablet, or even leaving yourself post-it notes in a specific spot where you can kind of mind map your written thoughts.
    • Something else to add to your journaling could be tracking your habits, if you are trying to work on creating or breaking a habit.
    • Another option is meditating. Taking the time to turn off any overwhelming constant thoughts & having the opportunity to face any thoughts you may have been avoiding. Or even just a moment to not think about anything if being overwhelmed by thoughts if you daily issue.
    • Something that I have been doing to help with my own self awareness is to be more aware of my reactions to situations, confrontations and general interactions with others.
    • At the end of the day, if you take the time to become more self aware, you should also be willing to change any behaviors that don’t serve you positively.

  • Do It Despite Your Mood - Motivate Yourself

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Friday!

This week our theme for the podcast is: Motivate Yourself

I know that a lot of us have a hard time motivating ourselves to get stuff done & keep moving forward in our journey, so I'm here to share some tips & ideas to get re-motivated & stay that way!

Here are some thoughts & encouragement on how to be more motivated & stay positive.

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • We aren’t always going to be motivated to get something done or keep going.
    • A lot of times it is going to take discipline and grit to get stuff done.
    • There are going to be many times in our lives that require us to keep going, despite our mood. Even after all the suggestions I have given this week, sometimes our final option is to just do it if it means enough to us.
    • Sometimes you will need to ask yourself if you’re comfortable getting behind on your timeline, missing out on possible opportunities if you get behind on your goals, whether or not doing what needs to get done will negatively impact you.
    • Another option is to have someone that supports your & your journey to keep you accountable. Reach out to that person when you just can’t do it anymore or go any further & ask them to help you get back on track.

Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!

  • Create the Habit & Stay Motivated Naturally - Motivate Yourself

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Thursday!

    • Sometimes it’s helpful to push yourself to create a habit of your routine to stay more motivated.
    • Whether your goal is related to fitness, career-based, creating something, becoming knowledgeable about something, you can create a routine that will make it habitual to keep going.
    • Now, it may be difficult in the beginning & you may need to REALLY push yourself to do what needs to get done at first, but if you do, it’s so much easier going forward.
    • Science shows that a habit is created after approximately 66 days and will make those actions automatic. (I know most people think it’s 30 days, but it’s actually longer than that)
    • Putting in the work at first can really be worth it in the end & make it so much easier to accomplish.
    • Sometimes there can be interruptions in creating your habit, which is normal and requires mental strength to pick back up and push forward, especially if this happens before the habit has fully been established.
    • If you have trouble establishing habits, get an accountability partner that can help out.
    • The goal of creating the habit is to come to the point where you don’t have to fight with yourself to get crap done, no matter how badly you tell yourself you want to get it done.
