The confrontation between Moses and Pharoah begins. God shows Pharoah a miraculous sign of a staff turning into a snake. But what is the point of the miracle?
This passage begins the power demonstration where God demonstrates His power and superiority over the false gods of Egypt. Moses finally obeys without complaining.

As Chapter six opens, God assures Moses that he is taking action against Pharaoh and that in the end Pharaoh will drive the Israelites out of Egypt. God has heard the Israelites groaning, has remembered the covenant made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and is set to redeem Israel with great judgments.
We look at several action words which God uses in his message with Moses. God says He appeared, established, heard, will bring, will deliver, will redeem, will take, and will give. Moses takes this message to the Israelite leaders but they would not listen.

Pharaoh oppresses the Israelites even more after Moses delivers God’s message. Pharaoh forces the Israelites to gather their own straw for the bricks but imposes the same quota of output. The Israelites fall behind and Pharaoh calls them lazy, using that as a reason to not let them go worship God.
The Israelites turn on Moses, blaming him for their work being increased. Moses then turns to God and blames God for bring harm upon the Israelites and not delivering them from Pharaoh.

Moses begins his trip to Egypt to give Pharaoh God’s message to “Let My People Go”. However, there is a key ritual Moses has neglected to perform which must be set right before he can continue. Moses’ brother Aaron meets him along the way and they both go before the elders of Israel. We see the leadership of Israel acknowledge that God is ready to free them, they bow down and worship God.
When the message is given to Pharaoh, he insults God and as God predicted, refuses to let them leave. This sets in motion all the plagues which will come upon Egypt in order to compel Pharaoh to let the Israelites leave.

Even though God has been clear that He will bring the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses is still skeptical and asks God "what if" scenarios. We see God use ordinary items of a staff, water and even Moses' arm, to reassure Moses that the Israelite people will listen and follow him. God instructs Moses to use the powers demonstrated to him as a way to convince the people God is with Moses and them.
After more pleading to God to assign someone else, Moses does depart to Egypt with his family.

At the age of eighty and as a shepherd of his father-in-law's flock, Moses is given a seemingly impossible mission by God to return to Egypt and lead the Israelites out of bondage. Where are they going? To the land of milk and honey, promised by God to Abraham's descendants through Isaac and Jacob.
We see Moses give reasons why he is not the right person for this mission. However God reassures Moses that he will be with him. God also provides a name for Moses to give to the Israelites - "I AM WHO I AM".
What objections does Moses give that he is not the right person for this mission?

The king of Egypt makes it a law to kill Hebrew children. The Hebrew midwives are faced with a moral dilemma: Should they obey the civil law or God's moral law?
Also in this chapter we see what happens to God's people when persecution increases. While the people may not see God's hand at work, He is preparing a deliverer.
