When Ross was only 12, his father Ken Misher was murdered by a long-time employee and friend who purchased a handgun in 15 minutes or less while on his lunch break. Ross turned his anger into action, launching a life in activism that continues 35 years later.

Nancy is calling into today to talk about why lockdowns, which are meant to help students prepare in case of a shooting, are in fact damaging to the mental health of students. Nancy provides parents, caregivers, academic staff, and first responders with explanations of how lockdown drills work, as well as inexpensive, common-sense solutions to the problem of poorly-designed lockdown drills.

In this episode of "Red, Blue and Brady," the podcast all about gun violence prevention, JJ is joined by JP and also by Christian! 

JP is Senior Manager of field operations and grassroots organizing at Brady. Despite being super busy, he enjoys taking time for the podcast. Christian is the Vice President of Policy at Brady, leading all legislative efforts at the federal and state level. He began advocating for stronger gun laws after a man with a history of violence shot his parents on Memorial Day 2005. His father survived multiple gunshots, but his mother was killed. Today, Christian works tirelessly to build consensus both in the states and in Congress. JJ, meanwhile, is the podcast producer and co-host at Brady. She spends her days yelling into a microphone. All of them can be reached @bradybuzz. 

JJ and Christian are joined by Chris Hurst, a journalist, former news anchor, and politician of the Democratic Party currently serving as a Delegate in the Virginia House of Delegates for the state's 12th district. Chris decided to leave journalism and run for office after the on-air television murder of his girlfriend, Alison Parker, and her cameraman, Adam Ward. Since that day, Chris has worked on finding solutions for Virginians and Americans--be it on education, health care, the environment, or gun violence prevention. 

JJ and Christian also discuss what happens when people try to shoot guns indoors (you won't be shocked that it's covered in our "Unbelievable, BUT" section) and call out bipartisan legislators who are doing a great job of going across the aisle to help stop this epidemic of gun violence.

News reporter Alison Parker and photojournalist Adam Ward were shot and killed on live television on August 26, 2015. Since then, Alison's father, Andy Parker, has fought for gun violence prevention. He also has taken on online trolls and hoaxers who maintain her death was somehow staged, and the platforms (like Google) that are used to host the video of Alison and Adam's death. Andy joins JJ and JP to discuss all this and more in this week's Red, Blue, and Brady.
