The Washington Post reports that the Red Cross's second-ever national blood crisis is being driven by a combination of extreme heat, poor air quality, foodborne illnesses, summer travel, and increased demand for blood transfusions. Donations have fallen to a four-year low, leaving supplies of key blood types critically low and prompting urgent appeals for donors nationwide. 

President Donald Trump is threatening to temporarily withdraw the nomination of Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche after two Republican senators continued blocking his confirmation, exposing a growing split within the GOP.
