During our session, I will ask you to participate in a creative imagery activity to set the stage for the podcast. Join me as I talk about something constant. No matter where you live or how old you are, one consistent thing is change. This is an ancient saying from a Greek philosopher, and yet the saying has been included in many classes and lectures everywhere. What is your strategy for managing change? How do you perceive change? For some, rejection and loss are devastating. And it isn’t easy to join life again. This reflective activity goal is to help us realize that as we transition through changes, a door may be closed, yet a new one opens. Acknowledging our emotions as we transition and adjust to a new phase in life is essential. I share reflective, thought-provoking questions from the Positive Psychology activity called “Door Closed Door Open” (references Seligman, M. E. P. (2006). Learned optimism: How to change your mind and your life. Vintage Books). I encourage you to participate in the activities. Listen to the podcast first, if you would like, before doing the thought-provoking questions to reflect on experiences of reactions and emotions towards loss and rejection. The experiences of loss/rejections are periods when doors close.
