Chapter 28: The Life Manual for Finding Stewardship in your 20's
Maybe you’ve been saying you want a new job for months, but you still haven’t started applying. Or, maybe you open your computer to check your bank account, but you just can’t get yourself to do it. Maybe you need to move out, but you’re avoiding scheduling apartment tours. We’ve all been there–pushing away these big, scary things in our 20s because we don’t want to deal with them.
But we all know that if you don’t preside over your fears, they’ll only continue to grow. Like guest speaker, Shelyna Brown, says: just like a judge in a courtroom, you have the power to preside over your own life.
Shelyna is a visionary leader and advocate for justice. With a two-decade career as a public defender and respected Superior Court judge in Santa Clara, she has since founded the Equality and Social Justice Committee to mentor the next generation of young leaders at San Jose State University. As an author and speaker, Shelyna offers all of us 20-something-year-olds incredible insight into how to preside over our own lives and take control over our realities. Together, we’ll be chatting about how to take radical responsibility for your healing, preside over your fears, make big decisions with ease, and trust that the universe has your back.
THIS EPISODE’S SYLLABUS STEPS:
Shelyna’s steps on how to take control of your life:
Assess your mindset. Ask yourself: Am I presiding over my mindset? Am I choosing my reality?
Assess your heartset. Ask yourself: What is it I believe about myself?
Assess your skill set. Ask yourself: Am I doing the things I want to be doing?
Really sit down and love yourself.
Here are some action items to remind yourself what you’re here in this world to do, being uniquely you:
Meditate and get quiet with yourself
Find an accountability partner with whom you can share your goals and keep each other accountable
