This week the Regular Joes discuss two nerd Meccas, one they visited one they skipped. First up Barry and Tod returned the the Official Star Trek Set Tour in Ticonderoga New York. Hear what they saw and what is in the works for this remote, but nevertheless awesome, destination in the Star Trek Universe. Next up the guys discuss some of the more interesting action figures, teasers and trailers to emerge from the annual chaos that is the San Diego ComicCon. The Regular Joe's have met some interesting people in their travels over the years, but few compare with David West Reynolds. Archaeologist, explorer, New York Times #1 best-selling author, Skywalker Ranch alum, authority on both NASA and Star Wars and 1970's GI Joe fan. Oh ... and he also just happens to be the dude who located the long-lost shooting locations from Star Wars, as detailed in his Documentary Journey to Tataouine. In the final moments of Avengers: Infinity War the Mad Titan Thanos eradicated half the Marvel Universe. In this week's episode Barry does pretty much the same thing! There have been 20 Marvel Studios films to date. If you were going to cut that list in half, which 10 films would you consider indispensable to a hypothetical new viewer who needs to catch up? Not the 10 best, but rather the most 10 significant. No surprise, there is a fair amount of disparity between our hosts respective lists. This week Barry and Tod went to see Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom and they let Dave, and you, know whether it's worth taking yet another trip back to the park. Hint: it is very likely this franchise may have just jumped the T-Rex. Also, in Recognition of the passing of sci-fi legend Harlan Ellison the guys revisit the classic Star Trek episode, City on the Edge of Forever, IDW comics recent adaptation of Ellison's original script for that episode, as well as his other TV contributions. This past week, Dave, Barry and Tod attended the 2018 GI Joe Collectors Convention, in lovely Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was bittersweet since it's the last GI Joe convention of its kind. Join the Regular Joes as they celebrate the end of an era along with the 4thRegular Joe Derryl DePriest, GI Joe Convention and Club president Brian Savage, and a host of other long time GI Joe collectors and friends of the show as they reminisce about conventions past and speculate on GI Joe's future. It's a show that anyone who every collected anything will appreciate, and a very sentimental show for the Regular Joes, who all met at the GI Joe convention back in 1999. We skipped a week...hey, summer happens, but we're back in the saddle catching you, and each other, up on what we missed. Barry and Dave made the trek to Eternal Con we they caught up with William Shatner (largely indifferent) Brandon Routh (gracious) and MEGO guy Marty Abrams (relentlessly self promoting). Because Tod didn't really do much of anything interesting, he shoehorns in a run down of recent films as we reach midpoint of the summer movie season. Barry was in Philly, Tod is just coming down from May madness, and yet we still pulled together a show. There some residual ruminating about Solo, some consideration of old Ben Kenobi's idea of inconspicuous, and we contemplate the rumored departure of Star Wars boss (and recent addition to Dave's List) Kathleen Kennedy. Shifting universes, Dave has finally gotten on board with The Expanse, which leads to some discussion of props, which leads to What's on my Workbench encompassing stuff from Lost in Space, The Expanse and yes, Star Wars. Five months after the controversial "The Last Jedi", the newest film in the Star Wars franchise hits theaters. While the box office may have been disappointing, most people seemed to enjoy the ride. As we should now expect, the Regular Joe's positions vary. Two feel it's an entertaining film and a fun time spent in the Star Wars universe while the other regards it as a mostly unnecessary exercise. Listen in to find out who falls where.
