We all have movies that we have seen approximately a gajillion times, and yet are totally happy to watch them again when we don’t know what to watch, or if we happen upon it on TV – this episode is about those Go-To Movies. This was recorded at our annual get-together at the Michigan Cottage, and features special guest Kyle Hoff. Enjoy!
For our third Hidden Gems film, things are going to get a wee bit sexy, and more than a wee bit uncomfortable, for we are discussing Bernardo Bertolucci’s 2003 homage to film and, ahem, familial love and welcoming, The Dreamers. Sacre bleu!
Here in the second part of our discussion of Blues Brothers, we go over our re-casting winners and losers, talk about how in the %$&# worked as well as it did, appreciated the harmony present in the original (both musical and racial), and finally talk about our favorite piece of music from the original. Take a listen, shake your tailfeather, and enjoy!
This episode, we’re on a mission from God – that’s right, we’re doing our best to remake what has been deemed unable to be remade, The Blues Brothers. In this first part, we recast the titular brothers, and then re-write musical cameos featuring artists we know and love today. We might be biased, but THIS EPISODE IS SERIOUSLY THE BEST. Especially if you’re a music nerd, which we know many of you are. Enjoy!
Note: This episode was recorded before the sexual misconduct allegations came out against Al Franken, who is mentioned within in relation to his time at SNL and as a MN Senator. Needless to say our tone and opinions have certainly changed in the time since this was recorded.
Like sands through the hourglass, another year in film has passed, and another Oscars has come and gone. Join us for this short but sweet episode where we reveal the big winners of our annual Oscars poll, and a recap of the show, featuring a very special guest!
Welcome to Part Two of our discussion of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels! Here we talk through our thoughts on the original and how we would remake it, including scheming other con options (taken from history as well), an appreciation for the original performances, and how to balance the humor and seriousness in our proposed remake.
We’re ringing in the regular-episode-new-year with a discussion of one of our collective favorite movies – Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Here we recast major and minor roles alike, with a couple ‘flip you for real’ moments along the way. Enjoy!
We’re back! Again! For real! Pardon the extended sabbatical, but we’re blasting into 2018 (where we will be publishing much more consistently) with an episode about death. Doh. For real though, as we’ve done in the past years, we’re saddened but excited to talk about those we lost in 2017, and what they meant to us and Hollywood as a whole.
Why, I do de-clare, what have we here? Eight months and change after the first half was published (yeesh, sorry about that…) we’re happy to bring you part two of our discussion of ‘Gone With the Wind’. Really, we just wanted to provide a real life example of just how long and epic this movie feels…or something like that. We talk about what we like about the movie (special effects, filmmaking) and what we didn’t like about it (the length and the overacting), and cover lots of things in between, especially our complete lack of knowledge about Civil War era southern culture – surprise, surprise.
For our second Hidden Gems episode, we dive into the French all-genres-all-the-time kung fu detective-y monster movie, Brotherhood of the Wolf (‘Le pacte des loups’, if you’re nasty). This is a whole lot of movie, but dang if we didn’t really enjoy it, both because of, and in spite of that fact. Enjoy!
