Gone With the Wind
Better late than never, we’re happy to bring you the first part of our discussion of the 1939 epic-est-of-epic films, Gone With the Wind. As usual this first part focuses on recasting the two major roles of Rhett and Scarlett, as well as five minor roles. Along the way, we talk about finding the balance of smooth and smarmy for Rhett, petulance for Scarlett, and whatever the *#$& the deal was with the actress who played Prissy’s voice. Enjoy!

Pee Wee’s Big Adventure
In part two of our live and lively discussion at the Miller cottage of Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, we continue down the über-weird rabbit hole of Pee Wee Herman. We share some really great listener recasting suggestions, reveal our recasting winners, and then dive into what makes this movie what it is, including a breakdown of the singular character of Pee Wee and what makes him and this film special, some Andy-brand gentle umbrage, how we all accepted Pee Wee into our hearts, our strange interest in lady Pee Wees, a strange realization that the band Creed was actually good, and appreciation for the magical year-in-film that was 1985. Whew!
Come on in, and pull yourself up a chair, for it’s time to discuss a cult classic beloved by many, especially special guest Kyle Hoff, ‘Pee-wee’s Bit Adventure’! Recorded live at the Miller cottage in Michigan, it was a total blast to record this all in the same room, and it shows with all the laughs in this episode. Here we have the daunting task of recasting three major roles (including the titular role) and six minor roles. Enjoy!
Welcome to the first film in our new Hidden Gems series, where one host picks a movie that they know and love, but that none of the other hosts have seen. Up first is Andy’s pick ‘The Man Who Would Be King’, an epic that bridges the gap between the Lawrence of Arabia’s that came before it, and the Indiana Jones’ that came after it. Featuring great performances from Sean Connery and Michael Caine, and feeling at times like a recruitment video for free-masons, it’s kinda like Spies Like Us, only not funny. But seriously, you should see it, or not, and then listen!
With Remakers Mark-ers both traveling Europe and trying to survive the incredibly busy time that comes with the end of a school year and Spring-to-Summer transition, we thought it would be fun to take a pause and re-broadcast our very first Special Episode, recorded shortly after Disney purchased Lucasfilm, where we share our hopes and wishes for what the rekindled Star Wars universe would bring us. Here’s to hoping some of these come true!
Welcome to the very first Special Episode of Remakers Mark! The whole geek community, including all of us here at Remakers Mark, were flabbergasted by the Disney purchase of Lucasfilm, and announcement that a ‘Sequel Trilogy‘ of Episodes VII, VIII, and IX would be made. A few months later, it was also announced that Disney would be making stand-alone Star Wars features. And that’s where this Special Episode comes into play: here we each provide an example of what we would like to see in a stand-alone Star Wars film. From Knights of the Old Republic to a deep dive into the world of the Sith, we leave few Star Wars Universe stones unturned.
Enjoy!
Speaking of the remake of Star Wars, the following email conversation between all of the Remakers Mark hosts was too fun not to share. It all started with this link, sharing news about the three major stars from the Original Trilogy. And then it spiraled blissfully out of control from there:
Kyle: If Han, Leia, and Luke are involved in VII and beyond, there’s no way they’d use anyone but the originals. I think they’d likely write it differently so that the characters would only be referenced if they weren’t involved.
Lee: In response to Luke, Leia and Han appearing in episode VII and beyond, how about this:
Mark:
Andy
Lee:
Jer:
Andy: And Meryl Streep is the Force.
Lee: I think Summer Glau can play a better force than even the great Meryl Streep.
Jer: Also, Steve Zahn plays Jek Porkins II, a wily wise-cracking T-16 pilot being hunted by the remnants of the Empire.
Lee: Steve Zahn is Porkins III, fat Val Kilmer is Porkins Jr.
Jer: Now THAT is a Star Wars spinoff movie I’d watch.
We made it, gang – we survived watching and discussing ‘KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park’. There might have been a couple of fugue states and random ‘ACK’ exclamations along the way, but we survived. Here, in part two, we discuss how much of a hot mess the movie is, why exactly it was made (hint – it rhymes with ‘cash money’), whether a remake should star a band or actors/actresses, other films that have starred hollywood actors as themselves, or a version of themselves, and finally we reveal our next special episode series called ‘Hidden Gems’. Enjoy!
In Episode 40 of Remakers Mark we detour in a very, ahem, unique way towards the ‘yes-ti’s-as-weird-and-probably-bad-as-it-sounds’ cult movie ‘KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park’. Along the lines of our remake of Supergirl, this discussion starts with a rough original film, and we seek to make it better in every way with our remake. Here we focus on recasting the film, with one major role (a really real live rock band!) and three minor roles. Along the way we talk about KISS’ shame, Scooby Doo, animation, and a two headed monster featuring Gary Busey and Charlie Sheen. GULP.
