Welcome to part two of our discussion of Midnight Run, a highly entertaining buddy movie that manages to be equal parts comedy, drama, and action film, and does so splendidly. Here we talk about how it blends all of these different moods so well, how and why it succeeds as a buddy movie, how great the performances were, and how we might want to change it if it were remade in today’s world. Enjoy!
Welcome to part one of our discussion of the wonderfully fun action/drama/comedy ‘Midnight Run’. Here we recast the two major roles and five minor roles, and along the way give our appreciation for Charles Grodin, and to a lesser degree Robert DeNiro, how hard a good deadpan actor is to find, and how dang great Joey Pants’ combover is.
Having employed a time machine to recast our film back before it was made in part one, we move on to something a bit less likely to create a Butterfly Effect-esque, ‘oh my god it’s raining donuts‘ type of reaction here in part two. We start with some really excellent listener recasting suggestions, and them move on to reveal who the big winners were amongst our picks. Then we move on to how we would change this movie were we to remake it ourselves. Along the way we tackle the bureaucracy present in trade routes and taxation (zzzzzzzzzz), character choices and performers (looking at you, Jar Jar), practical effects vs. green screen, and the role of this film in the larger Star Wars universe.
We came, we saw, we bought Girl Scout Cookies from Chris Rock. Okay, maybe not the last one, but we definitely watched the Oscars, and special co-hosts Andy and Jer had lots to say about it in this special episode! They touch on each award given, as well as how everyone did who played along with us! Thanks to all who submitted their picks, and enjoy!
Hello everyone! The past couple years the Remakers Mark crew has done an Oscars ballot, and this year we would love for you to join along! We’ve created an online form where you can play along – all the candidates are listed, and it will only take a couple minutes to complete. There are no prizes, but we will hold your brilliance up online and in a future episode if (who are we kidding, when) you kick our butts with your picks.
Thanks for playing along! Click here to vote!
It’s time for us once again to take part in the time honored tradition of looking back on the year that was in Hollywood, and which towering figures we lost. While this year did not seem to have the giant losses of the last couple years, there was definitely some great talent lost this year, and we are very happy to celebrate them in this episode.
Here, in our lucky number 13th special episode, using Andy’s (patented?) term ‘Umbrage’, we both give ourselves a chance to right some poor re-casting choices that we’ve made, and give ourselves props for those picks that were right on. While Mark was out of town (submitting his picks via this fancy thing called ‘The Internet’), the other four of us met in person while Andy was in town, and had a blast.
The Court Jester
Welcome to part two of our discussion of the rollicking 1955 physical comedy classic ‘The Court Jester’. Picking up where part one left off, we reveal who the big winners were amongst our casting choices, as well as some excellent recasting suggestions from listeners. Then we dive into a deeper discussion of the film, focusing on the tone of the original, whether we would want to make a remake a musical, how this movie is delightfully anachronistic (especially when other movies try and fail in this department), and we all revel in the brilliance that is Danny Kaye. Enjoy!

Next movie: Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace
I feel the presence of something I haven’t felt in a long time…oh, I know! A NEW STAR WARS MOVIE IS IN THEATERS YAAYAYAYYAAYYAY! That’s right, like any good Star Wars nerd should, we all saw The Force Awakens, and are reviewing it in this episode. Sound the spoiler alert gong/horn/conch/giraffe, as we talk about important plot points and character moments in this episode. So, if you haven’t seen it yet, go now! And if you have, I hope you enjoy this episode greatly – we sure had a great time recording it.
