22 years ago the United States of America experienced the worst terrorist attack in American history. The attacks on the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania took the lives of over 3,000 Americans and injured countless more who still live with the effects of both their visible and invisible injuries today. As a 9/11 survivor, program host Chris Meek pays reverence to the men and women in uniform who worked tirelessly on the day of the attacks and the many weeks following to rescue and recover those at Ground Zero affected by the fall of the Twin Towers. He welcomes retired Fire Department New York (FDNY) Lieutenant Niels Jorgenson of Ladder Company 80 to the program. Lt. Jorgensen, who served 22 years in FDNY, will discuss his experiences on 9/11 and in the days after, how leukemia linked to his service during 9/11 forced him to retire and what else is being done and can be done for the countless other First Responders who are living with cancer and other ailments due to the attacks, as well as how he has spent his time since retiring, including serving as a board member of the Culley Strong Foundation which assists in providing mental health services to teens and veterans.
