I first met Alan Amling in 2017 at an IoT and Supply Chain event in Frankfurt. At the time Alan was a VP for UPS heading up their 3D Printing initiative.

Since then he left UPS to pursue a PhD, and he has authored a book called Organizational Velocity. The book deals with how large companies find it difficult to be nimble, and offers many lessons on how to overcome this.

Because of Alan's deep background in Supply Chain I asked him to come on the podcast to talk about the book and lessons to be learned from it.

Getting access to capital can be tricky for supply chains as banks often don't understand them, and their trans-national nature often complicates matters.

One company looking to fix this using a heave dose of AI, ML, and data is Fishtail.ai. To find out more I invited their CEO Marc Held to come on the podcast to tell us all about it.

He agreed, and we had a fascinating conversation talking about why finance is so challenging for organisations (especially smaller ones), how this often holds companies back, how Fishtail uses boat loads (!) of data to reduce risk.

Knut Alicke and Radu Palamariu are both very high profile, highly respected figures in the world of supply chain - in fact, Knut featured in a previous episode of this podcast. So, when I heard that they had partnered to co-author a book called From Source To Sold, I reached out to them to ask if they'd like to come on the podcast to talk about it.

Standards are super important, especially when it comes to ecosystems as diverse, and with as many stakeholders as supply chains.

One organisation that has been crafting supply chain standards for decades is GS1 US. GS1 is the organisation that sets the standards around barcodes - the reason why when you scan an item at a self-checkout, the machine knows what the item is, and its price.

Question: what do black holes, AI, and digital twins of supply chains have in common?
Answer: Bob Rogers, CEO of OII.ai - a company using AI to create digital twins of supply chains, allowing planners to quickly and accurately run what-if scenarios to improve their planning. And the black holes? Bob cut his AI teeth creating digital twins of black holes to understand what was happening around supermassive black holes in space.

I invited him to come on the podcast to talk about how that work can be translated (many years later) into supply chain digital twins.

Integrated circuits (aka semiconductors) and their supply chains have been in the news quite a bit lately.

In this episode I spoke to Danny Rittman, CTO of GBT Technologies, a company that designs integrated circuits, and systems to speed up their design which could help with the current supply chain issues semiconductors are having.
