  • E40: What the H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks Books

If you are reading this, then chances are you love reading (and writing!). You make time in your busy life to read and enjoy the benefits.

    But why?

In today’s episode, we think about WHY we read. For me, it comes down to one simple theme:

    I read to grow.

I purposefully grow my reading life so my actual life can grow, too, and so I’m sharing three books that made me literally stop and yell to the air: What the H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks is going on?

Now, I’m not talking about what’s going on with the plot, I’m talking about what I learned about the world as a result of reading these books.

I’m still reeling from them and therefore, you need to read them, too.

Today, I’m sharing three books (and a bunch more from my Patreon community) that will stop you in your tracks and question everything you know about how the world worked and still does.

You'll find the show notes for this episode here.

There are some pretty grim statistics surrounding our abilities to keep our new year’s resolutions all year long.

It turns out that almost half of us do not keep our new resolutions past February. Can you believe it?!

That’s why I’m here today with a collection of books to help you set AND keep your goals going strong, just in case you need the motivation.

Today, I’m sharing a collection of books with a special request AND a few additional books that will help you think differently about goals when you need to change gears or rethink their purpose all together.

  • E38: My Bookish #23in23

I love ways to head into a new phase of life with concrete intention.

That’s why I love choosing a word of the year, a word of the month and my monthly and weekly planning routines.

Plus, over the past couple of years, I’ve been obsessed with a new ritual too: taking on a themed challenge based on the specific year we are in, like #23for23.

This year, I’m taking a new approach to my #23in23 ritual and would love for you to join me. I’m virtually attending 23 bookish events hosted by 23 independent bookstores and/or libraries to show the book love and get closer to the book world that I love so much.

    Join me!

You'll find the show notes for this episode here.

PLUS...Here's a dandy, printable planner so you can get started on your own #23in2023 project!

  • E37: My 2023 Notebook Stack

I have a notebook obsession. I love them in all shapes and sizes and for all reasons and purposes. I’m often asked about my obsession from those wanting to cultivate their own notebooking habit:

    • How many notebooks do you have?

    • What do you write in each of them?

    • How often do you write in them?

    • How do you manage them all?

Today, I’m tackling all of your notebook questions and am sharing my 2023 notebook stack: all the notebooks I’m using and loving and why.

I’m here with a very exciting first for the Get Lit(erate) podcast: I’m talking to an author!

It was such a joy to talk with Teri Brown, author of Sunflowers Beneath the Snow and An Enemy Like Me, two historical fiction books that I adored.

By the end of the episode, we were fast friends talking all things books and reading and I know you’ll feel that connection with her, too.

  • E35: Three Gilmore Girls Books with Jules of The Literary Lifestyle

I’m so excited to launch the podcast into 2023 with a special guest and reading challenge to start the year strong.

Today, I’m chatting with Jules Buono of The Literary Lifestyle on all things Gilmore Girls. She’s created an AMAZING list of over 500 books that have been read, referenced, mentioned or seen on The Gilmore Girls and created The Rory Gilmore Book Club Challenge that I’ll be joining in on this year, too.

Come listen as Jules shares three of the most popular books from her challenge that we need to read to start 2023 strong.

And the best part? These are all books that I haven’t read yet, so I’m digging into some intentional reading right from the start of this new year.

  • E34: Yearly Reading Reflections & Short Books

There’s something magical to me about the week after Christmas. It feels suspended in time, a bonus week with the entire family home after a beautiful holiday but before the fresh start of a year ahead.

It’s full of possibilities and I often spend this week thinking about the past year and making plans for the year ahead, not to mention cleaning out a closet or two, too.

And since my reading life is a very important part of my actual life, that means taking a hard look at the bookish data I collected all year long so I can think intentionally about the year ahead in books.

Today, I’m sharing all the pertinent stats from my reading life and my upcoming goals for the new year, too. Listen to find out all the details and steal the three unique questions that can change how you look at your reading life forever.

You'll find all the books mentioned here in the show notes page, plus much more!

Today, I’m sharing a collection of books that represent all four components of Festivus: the Festivus pole, the airing of grievances, the Festivus dinner and the feats of strength.
