Rewatchability

Hear ye, hear ye! For the wholesome entertainment of the publick, the bards of Rewatchability revisit the tale of ROBIN HOOD: MEN IN TIGHTS, a parodie penned by the great poet Mel Brooks, and presented by his men including Cary Elwes, Dave Chapelle, Richard Lewis, Amy Yasbeck,Tracy Ullman and all thine favorite thespians of stages comedick and dramtick. Witness the savage mocking of Kevin Costner, the silliness of the travelling mole and the tightiness of the quite-tight tights.

But does this tale transport the joys of yesteryear to our aching ears? Is the poet's trade satire or silliness? Where can I get a chastity belt? All these queries and more will be unravelled!

Hallelujah! On this blessed day we sit in communion with SISTER ACT! Starring Sister Mary Whoopi Goldberg as well as Sister Mary Kathy Najimi, not to forget Mother Sister Mary Dame Maggie Smith, this movie was a surprise hit for non-believers. Elevated by the uplifting musical performances (with sinfully delicious handclaps), this movie almost made us want to go to church. Almost. But how does it hold up today, in the year of our lord?

Take up thine earpods, valiant knight, for today we quest for DRAGONHEART! Look upon our hero, Dennis Quaid, as he ventures to slay his vocal chords with a contrived growl! Hear the dulcet tones of Sean Connery cashing in! See David Thewlis summon all his powers yet stand impotent under an awful Prince Valiant haircut!

This movie soared into our human hearts, but how does it hold up today?

With the world gone crazy we escape into a good story with STRANGER THAN FICTION! Starring Will Ferrell as a man who becomes aware he is a character in someone else's novel, and Emma Thompson as the author who can't figure out how to kill Will Ferrell, Stranger Than Fiction is a quirky metafictional drama with chocolate rom-com chips.

Also starring Maggie Gyllenhall and Dustin Hoffman, this movie suffered under comparison to Charlie Kaufman's films, but how does it hold up under a fresh light?

The world has been ravaged by a deadly virus and humanity forced from the surface of the Earth. Since those things also happen in 12 MONKEYS, it seems like an appropriate moment to revisit Terry Gilliam's 1995 sci-fi drama. Based on Chris Marker's La Jetée, 12 Monkeys tells the story of a man who is sent back in time to get information on the plague that wiped out mankind. Starring Bruce Willis, Madelaine Stowe and Brad Pitt, this movie fascinated us when we were younger, but how does it hold up today?

Get your magic ticket ready, we're going beyond the screen with LAST ACTION HERO! Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Austin O'Brien, Last Action Hero is the story of a boy who spends way too much time in a creepy old movie theatre and ends up getting sucked into the world of a movie. Also starring Mercedes Ruehl, F. Murray Abraham, Charles Dance and hey isn't that Tina Turner?

This movie transported us to a magical place when we were younger, but how does it hold up now?
