Rewatchability

Happy Halloween! We celebrate by participating in our favorite ritual, watching THE SIMPSONS TREEHOUSE OF HORROR I-IX! These fun-sized segments monster mashed our favorite TV family together with plots from the Twilight Zone and many other horror anthologies and movies we were way too young to have been exposed to. The Treehouse of Horror fascinated and terrified us when we were young, but how does it hold up today?

If there's something strange in your neighborhood, but you're on a budget, who you gonna call? We ring up THE FRIGHTENERS! Directed by Peter Jackson and starring Michael J. Fox, Trini Alvardo and the second craziest Busey in Hollywood, it's about a guy running a paranormal investigation grift who must stop the grim specter of death itself! Also featuring John Astin, Jeffrey Combs and Elliott's mom from E.T., this movie scared and fascinated us, but how does it hold up now?

Call your bff, this week we're dishing on JENNIFER'S BODY! Written by Diablo Cody, directed by Karyn Kusama, and starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried, this movie was considered a huge flop in the wake of Cody's success with Juno. Though initially dismissed by critics, perhaps due to it's bro-tastic marketing, it's since been rediscovered and re-evaluated as a cult feminist classic. Emily and Alex from the podcast Parkdale Haunt join us.

But is it rewatchable? Listen here to find out! Also don't forget to subscribe and rate us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or Stitcher! Also, you can also support us by either contributing Patreon campaign, or by buying Rewatchability t-shirts from TeePublic.

Grarble your phlonx, this week we visit with American's favorite family, the CONEHEADS! Starring Dan Ackroyd, Jane Curtain and Chris Farley amongst a zillion other SNL alums, this aquatic-lifeform-removed-from-dihydrogen-monoxide tale shines a luminescent photon beam on the immigrant experience (or at least the experience of white immigrants with high foreheads) that is woven into America's very fabric. But what do Beldar and Prymaat have to offer today's world?

With Christopher Nolan's TENET in cinemas for those who want to risk their lives and health for a movie, we close our eyes and re-enter the world of INCEPTION! Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, plus Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard and more, Inception bent our minds as we tried to decipher reality from dream. But how does it hold up ten years later?

In celebration of the most eminent release of Bill & Ted Face The Music, forming the most heinous of trilogies, we hit the Highway to Hell (shredding noises) with BILL & TED'S BOGUS JOURNEY! Starring the most radical Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, not to mention George Carlin and totally bodacious Pam Grier, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey is like the Van Halen II, except if Running With The Devil from Van Halen I were on it. We were totally on board with the Bill & Ted utopia when we were younger, but is it still righteous to our future selves?

But what happens when you have too many players and not enough controllers? Game over! Starring Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, plus like half the superheroes, this movie is also notable for for being filmed and actually set in our city of Toronto, Canada! Graham Isador (Vice,CBC Arts, GQ) joins us once again as we talk about this movie, its depiction of our home and whether Scott in the end defeats the true final boss, toxic masculinity!

Run yourself a nice bath, this week we reveal WHAT LIES BENEATH! A supernatural mystery starring Michelle Pfieffer as a woman who believes a ghost is trying to communicate with her, and Harrison Ford as her dismissive husband who is too busy fussing about his precious job. Ladies, lemme tell ya, if you tell your man your house is haunted by the ghost of the neighbor woman who mysteriously disappeared around the time her husband was seen moving body-shaped things wrapped in plastic, and he doesn't believe you, get a new man! James Remar is in this as well.

This movie spooked us when we were younger, but does it hold up today?

Grab your swim trunks, we're going for a dip with COCOON! Directed by Ron Howard and starring the young and vivacious Wilford Brimley, as well as Hume Cronyn, Don Ameche, Jessica Tandy, Gwen Verdon and, yes, Steve Guttenberg, Cocoon tells the story of a group senior citizens who discover a fountain of youth in the neighbor's pool. Did we mention there's aliens? It's not just old people doing aqua-fitness for two hours, though that is a large part of it.

In our day, this movie was a bigger hit than Quaker Oatmeal, but how does it hold up to our aged eyes?

It's the July 4th weekend, so you better believe we're celebrating America (f-yeah!) by riding along with TEAM AMERICA WORLD POLICE! Melding the crass humor of Trey Parker and Matt Stone with the grand artistic legacy of marionette, and just a dash of geopolitics for flavor, Team America attempted to deflate the Hollywood establishment while offering a antidote to a polarized political landscape. But do its crude satirical jabs still land? Or... wait, is that puppet going down on that other puppet?
