Today we are going to talk about my failures. I have learned from coaching others that fear and failure keep people from success. However, great people experience a lot of failures as for me inspite of a lot of financial stupidity I still achieved great success.
I want to share my mistakes so you can learn from them and hopefully avoid them yourself.

"Now is the time to get serious about living your ideals. How long can you afford to put off who you really want to be? Your nobler self cannot wait any longer. Put your principles into practice – now. Stop the excuses and the procrastination. This is your life! You aren't a child anymore. The sooner you set yourself to your spiritual program, the happier you will be. The longer you wait, the more you'll be vulnerable to mediocrity and feel filled with shame and regret, because you know you are capable of better. From this instant on, vow to stop disappointing yourself. Separate yourself from the mob. Decide to be extraordinary and do what you need to do – now."
― Epictetus, The Art of Living: The Classical Manual on Virtue, Happiness and Effectiveness

Today we are going to talk to Doug Nordman who retired at 41 and lives in paradise spending his days wondering about the surf report while he raised a financially savvy kid. There are some amazing incites that Doug shares and you will leave having a strong plan to raise your own money savvy kids. Remember you have to start when they are young!
Doug is wonderful giving man and if you meet him I am sure he will invite you out surf with him in Hawaii. Don't forget to say thank you for his service to our country!
About Doug:
Doug ("Nords") Nordman is the author of "The Military Guide To Financial Independence And Retirement" and founder of the-military-guide.com/. All of his writing revenue is donated to military-friendly charities.
Doug and his spouse reached their financial independence in the late 1990s (on a high savings rate). He retired after 20 years with the U.S. Navy's submarine force in 2002 (at the age of 41) and his spouse is a retired Navy Reservist. They've lived in Hawaii for 28 years and he starts every day with the surf forecast. Their daughter was born and raised here, and she's watched her parents enjoy financial independence for over half of her life. Today she's on sea duty in her own Navy career and married to another active-duty spouse.

Sarah Li Cain went from broke to six figures after hitting rock bottom and deciding to change her relationship with money. Sarah is willing to share that journey with us. She was quite intentional and set goals for her journey. Taking small baby steps and working her way forward.
Don't forget to check out Sarah's site highfivingdollars.com she has some great free resources for you.
About Sarah: I'm Sarah, and I'm here to get you thinking about money not just in the dollar and cents sense (haha, get it?), but the psychology behind our spending behaviors.
You know you should save more, spend less and all that, but why aren't you following some of the great advice out there? Or you know you should invest some of your heard earned money, but are too scared to even open an investment account?
It really boils down to how we feel about money. Sounds cheesy, but it's true. If you've been taught that investment is meant to be confusing and you need to learn a lot of crazy technical jargon, then that belief is going to lead you to never spend a dime on any type of investment. Or if you're stressed and trying to run away from certain problems, then that stress will mostly likely manifest in your spending habits.
I learned the hard way when I ended up jobless, homeless and $9,000 in credit card over an ex-boyfriend. Through that experience I learned that being kind to myself was key to living a richer life. Once I intertwined physical, mental and financial wellness together, I was able to grow my bank account and live a much more fulfilled life (just ask my husband and adorable son).
In the end, money is a tool. But we still attach feelings and beliefs towards money. So to figure out and better our financial situation, then we need to change those feelings and beliefs.

Today we are chatting with Jonathan Harris who left a corporate job to start a company with his wife and kids. https://hardlotion.com/
We will explore that journey along with how he helps parents find their kids talents. http://10ktotalent.com/
If you just want to hear the second part skip to 46:20 minute mark.
About Jonathan: As a homeschooling father with nine children in the home (my oldest child is currently 18 years old), I began to earnestly look for ways to make the standard educational time more productive and worthwhile. My fear was that we were going to spend so much time perfecting educational details and still wind up getting to where we really didn't want to be. Instead I wanted to be able to give my children an inspiration to develop early in their life a focus and a drive to cultivating something that they would eventually be very, very good at, and maybe even something that they could use to provide for themselves with a generous living.
As a result, I started experimenting with dovetailing our standard study times as a means to push my children into a deeper understanding around one chosen topic of their interest. Then I tried other ideas that were equally as successful. Because of these home-grown experimentations in education, I am discovering some great techniques and ideas along the way that I want to share with other homeschooling parents. I am doing all of this so I can guide my children into a life-long passion early enough so they can avoid wandering aimlessly in their early twenties through unfocused college degrees or low-paying market skills. Passion, focus, discipline, creativity, productivity: Why not get all those good things for our children before the age of 18? That is what I intend to do and I hope you will follow me on this exciting journey.
