RIPEcast by Space Cowboys

On the RIPEcast this week close friend of ours Tadao! Recorded Live at Birds of a Feather 2024.

Tadao became captivated by Breakbeats in the sands of the Black Rock desert in 2002. Years later he joined Strategik to help throw renegades and keep the Bay area Breaks scene vibrant. In the 2000 teens, the proliferation of Breaks in the Bay Area waned. Never content to stand on the sidelines, he jumped on the decks and founded Red Hot Beverly to help keep Breaks alive and well.

I had the pleasure of joining the flock for Birds of a Feather '24 with all-stars from some of my favorite Burning Man camps and Bay Area friends. It's a pleasure and honor to throw down with you all.

The original idea was to post this around my birthday in March, after getting about halfway through I realized March wouldn't happen because... well, I was only about halfway through. I parked it to focus on other things. Then came incredibly sad news about friend and Space Cowboy, Danny. He was always a fan of the BBQ sets, and frequently asked when I'd get to another. Yesterday was Danny's birthday, so I carved out time and finished it up. Not perfect, but long af, and hopefully suitable for BBQing. RIP Danny, hope he bumps this at the big grill in the sky.

XO, 8b

Space Cowboy resident Rumblemunk is up on this week's RIPEcast with his live set from Breakfast of Champions 2024!

In his words "I’m not a turntable-ist or an OG breakbeat DJ/producer, but when your set is in between Cut Chemist and Elite Force, whaddya do?

This set starts with a supporting MC, blazes through a mash-up of Drummatic Twins re-releases (thanks Nick), followed by my BOC 2023 release Shake That Thing, stops in with some Nick Thayer, bounces through my Eminight’s Doom bootleg, then settles in for an Elite Force medley (thanks Simon) that ends with playing the CDJ like an instrument. Brass Monkey gets us back on track heading towards a half time grind and shake, then resetting with a classic breakbeat, ending with my latest release, a Tears For Fears bootleg.

Thank you for all the love and support at this year’s BOC. Hope you enjoy the set and the memories!" - Rumblemunk

Breakfast of Champions + It’s a New Day is always the best party of the year and I love the event because it’s indeed a new day and everyone is there full of optimism for a fresh start. It’s always an honor to play there and it was also my first time playing on the Mog, about a decade after dancing to DJs on the Mog inspired me to DJ! This set harkens back to some of the breaks roots and also features an original track on an EP that was recently released (https://kevnull.bandcamp.com/album/how-about-drums) I hope you enjoy it! -kev/null

Not sure how it happens but this party just keeps getting better and better! The weather this year was amazing once again, the lineup was top notch and we had more people, more hugs and more love than ever before. Being one of the first few DJ’s to get the party started I put together a head nodding chunky house set that blends into some tech house bombs and finally into some deep breaks at the end. So put on your headphones, crank that shit up and re-live this BOC + It’s a New Day party starter set!! ps I’d like to send out mad love to all the early birds that came down to rock out with me for my 19th year!!  ~Sol

Another one for the record books! Breakfast of Champions is always my favorite party of the year, and I love going all out with my set! This year was especially fun because I got to play on the Space Cowboys UNIMOG, which was freshly decked out with new video screens and amazing visuals. Thanks to everyone who came out to dance and celebrate with us!

I am thrilled to invite you to experience the magic of my New Year's Day set at the iconic Breakfast of Champions party, hosted by the legendary DJ collective Space Cowboys. As a proud member of the Space Cowboys, curating this set was a labor of love, showcasing my favorite tech house tracks from the vibrant landscape of 2023. The Breakfast of Champions is not just a party; it's a testament to the Space Cowboys' commitment to a community that thrives on a shared passion of art, music and dance.

Being a Space Cowboy is more than just a title; it's a badge of honor that represents a commitment to bringing joy to the people through music and dance. I am proud to have played a role in putting together this unforgettable event, where the beats echoed the spirit of unity and celebration. My thanks to the people who were there dancing in the street and you who are listening to this Ripecast.

This week on the RIPEcast is longtime Space Cowboy J9 the Angel.

What can I say except that BOC is always my favorite party of the year because I get to see all of your beautiful faces! 2023 was particularly challenging for me, so it’s all the more special start the year in this way and to receive so many hugs, and have such deep and meaningful conversation. The best part is always seeing your joy and dancing from behind the decks. We spend so much time crafting a set and experience that we think you’ll enjoy, and the look on your faces is most certainly the payoff! I hope you’ll enjoy listening to this mix and reliving the moments from that beautiful, sunny day. I was surrounded with family, from near and far, and I’m so grateful for each and every one of you, and for this experience, always.

So much love,

Janine

Special thanks go out to all of my producer friends who provided the soundtrack for the day, namely Raul/83, Miguel/Elektroshock, and Fran/Banana Club Records. Your friendship and talent is a true gift!

The best way to start the new year is with all of your friends at Breakfast of Champions! I loved playing some of my favorite tracks old and new to a sweet vibing dance floor full of so many amazing friends. Live from BOC.

I hope you enjoy the mix! - Tamo
