There has been a considerable amount of violence on public transit systems in North America. We need out public transit, it is a core element of a successful and vibrant city. Over 85% of Canadians live in urban and suburban areas, transit contributes to our productivity and is absolutely essential to our success.  We chat about maintaining situational awareness, understanding the environment around you, mitigating risk as much as possible and in the rare times, know how to physically protect yourself. Let us work hard to improve public transit, make it safer, but in the meantime, make sure you adopt preparedness to protect you.

However, you need a preparedness plan first, you want the equipment in your possession to support your plan, to allow you to execute your intent. The kits are not the plan, they are the tool to enhance the skills and knowledge you have. Family, their needs, sheltering in place, timeline and a detailed review of your animalistic requirements define this episode.

Preparedness is an attitude, a theoretical lens through which we evaluate and engage with the world -  a state of mind. It is never and cannot be measured in supplies, kit pr equipment. Difficult to measure, similar to social capital, in that we measure the outcomes of strong social capital to determine whether it is present or not. 
Hardship befalls us all - illness, anguish, economic and dramatic losses. These are beyond our control to prevent, it is only our ability to navigate these with poise and presence that wins the day. 
Embracing preparedness as the totality of efforts to be ready, weak dressed and of determined mind to navigate life's disruptions.

You will leave your house or bunker at some time, maybe even take a vacation, so what are the considerations for travel - local, regional and into a foreign country? Today we discuss dressing for the weather, considering what you will do when your normal mode of travel is no longer available to you, having situational awareness on your destination and just simply understanding your options to get back home when how you got there is not available. Many travellers are being left on the beach by airlines and abandoned. Do you want to be whining about how you've been wronged and how no one is helping, or do you pivot to get you and your family home irrespective of the airline's intent? Having a plan permits you to think clearly and accurately in times of chaos.

In Canada, an upcoming law C-11 provides for the Public Service to be a decision maker in what is appropriate content for the Internet and social media companies. This episode is about definitions, what is free speech, who determines a fact, how that is done and what are our options for have an adjudicator in the modern public square. So you want to become a survivalist, someone who thinks that society will collapse and the critical infrastructure will not restart. These are individuals who hoist aboard the full and complete responsibility of providing all their requirements time immemorial. They have two options - stationary and mobile. The stationary ones are those who live in rural areas, have acreage, grow food, hunt, fish and truly live off grid. The mobile survivalist has the skills and equipment to live off grid when necessary, if society collapses. Similar to the Alone show, but the ability to move with the food source.  It's all about your animalistic requirements

Inflation, supply chain disruptions and growing conflict are all affecting our ability to acquire nutrients necessary to rock and incredible life. In the face of uncertainty, we need to take control of access to a sustainable and local food supply, through adopting to eating local foods - often referred to as the 100 mile diet, learn to cook from basic ingredients and through that, we insulate ourselves from exogenous shock. California could have a drought, Florida a flash freeze and those would be totally irrelevant to our food quality and availability.  Brilliant and simple.

Returning to the traditional subjects of preparedness, this week we chat about the needs for sheltering in place with your family, until the government restores critical infrastructure. That is the primary role of the government, is to get society's systems up and running after a failure, your responsibility is to take care of yourself and those for whom you are responsible. It's not complicated, we discuss food, water, shelter, health, safety and security. So grab your favourite beverage as we go back to basics and talk about sheltering in place.

A deep subject, but this matters to so many and the importance of where we are and why we're here is critical. A short chat about the influence on your preparedness at the end, but this conflict was coming like a freight train for 17 years and no one cared. The Ukrainians are doing the killing and dying, while the cowards in NATO are waking a killing from their military industrial complexes. No one is calling for peace, no one. Just calls for "all-in" for Ukraine and the Russians have lost about 10% of what they deem to be acceptable. This is just the beginning.
