  • Rock Solid Radio - A Season For Everything - Episode 180

How often do you find yourself frustrated or anxious about things not going to plan?  Either the timing, the process, or the outcome, are not what you expected.  This is part of the human condition.  It is experienced by every thinking human on earth.  "Why aren't things going my way?"

In this show Linda and Merrill talk about how this has been such a big part of their life.  How it continues to be a daily struggle even though they logically understand God's Word and what they should be doing, but so easily get caught in the same trap.

God's timing is everything because God's timing is perfect.  There is no other way to see it.  He is the creator of all things.  God doesn't do things that are not in his perfect will.  The challenge is us recognizing that we must learn to walk in God's will, not ours.  The truth is, they continue to find themselves in the battle.

Galatians 2:20-21 says: I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.

Yes, it is good to plan and use your time wisely, but resist becoming so rigid that you fail to see the workings of God in your life.

  • Rock Solid Radio - Families Rock - Episode 179

When working with families we often see similar patterns that produce the good outcomes and those that produce the not so good outcomes.  When you work long enough in this field you can begin to make predictions of future outcomes based on current behavior patterns.  That doesn't make us a prophet, it just makes us aware of the simple concept of cause and effect.

In this show, Linda and Merrill introduce their approach to helping parents raise children with the greatest probability to success.  This program is called Families Rock!  As much as they would love to take credit for their approach, they must be honest and reveal that they did not create this approach, but rather, it comes from  the Father of all fathers , God the Father!  Through God's Word, He describes for us the many foundational principles for parents to raise children.  They are not complicated nor are they compromising in any way. Instead, they are perfectly in line with God's Nature.

Merrill and Linda help to break down God's Word by presenting His message in four basic areas: Authority, "Who's The Boss?" /  Outer Influences and Forces - "Parenting in a Tech Heavy World" /  Social and Emotional Factors - "When School is Tough" /  Essential Character Traits for Success - "CORE".

This show will introduce these basic areas as a brief overview of how parents can begin to gain greater insight into raising strong and well adjusted Christian people that will form the next generation.

  • Rock Solid Radio - Do You Need A Vacation? - Episode 178

Are you feeling exhausted or overwhelmed?  Are you losing sight of the things that you say truly matter to you? You are not alone. Our culture has sold us many different things, but one of the most dangerous is that of being overly busy.  At times it's as if we wear it as a badge of honor.  "He everybody, look how busy I am."  We allow our work schedules, kids' schedules, and every other schedule to get jammed into each and every day.  We allow the cost of keeping up with our neighbors to own us and or valuable resources of time, money, and energy.

It's time for a break!  It's time to take a vacation and reset your priorities of using life's precious resources.  Many of us believe we are stuck in this rush with no way out.  That simply is not true for the vast majority of us. We just have to make a few conscious and hard decisions.  How much time is in my day?  How will I choose to use my time?  How much money is in my life?  How will I choose to use my money?  How many relationships are in my life?  How will I care for these relationships?  How much health do I have?  How will I care for my health?

Simple answers like saying yes and no with greater certainty and reason will offer you a great chance of understanding who is truly running your life.  During this show offer the idea of taking that vacation and resetting your view on how you are going to live your life.

  • Rock Solid Radio - Supporting Your Spouse's Dreams - Episode 177
What's on your bucket list?  What motivate's you and drives you to wake up and live another day?  Do you live for the weekends, or vacations?  How about the idea of a great journey or project, maybe even a particular experience in your life?  These are sometimes referred to as your dreams.  Why should we have them and what happens when we aren't having them?

Dreams or visions for your future are critical to giving people purpose and hope.  They allow us to work through many of the menial tasks of life and give us the energy and direction to keep marching on.  But, when our dreams are stifled or completely shut down, we often see significant dysfunction in our life.  Sometimes to the point of depression and mental health issues.

So the question we present today is: How can we support our spouse and their dreams?   The key here is supporting your spouse,  so it goes both ways.  Both spouses being intentional about supporting the dreams of each other.  When we learn to do this well we see a level of marital contentment and joy that we don't see when couples have no common dreams or lack support for the dreams of each other.

Understanding that dreams are a way that God reveals his desires for us. God gives us our visions for the future as the will honor his work in you.  God wants you to pursue what he lays on your heart.  We must not deny these visions, but rather, we must learn to chase them and make sure they are aligned with the God's nature.

  • Rock Solid Radio - Special Guest Alisa Childers - Protecting and Growing Your Christian Faith - Episode 176

Alisa Childers is no stranger to talking and singer about her faith.  Alisa began her career as a singer in the Christian band, Zoe Girl. From there she led worship in church while raising her kids and being a wife.  But when Covid came and many churches stop holding public worship, Alisa began talking and writing about her faith walk.

Now, Alisa is the host of her own Alisa Childers Podcast and has written multiple books on faith and our culture.  Her passion to dig deep to the authentic word is tenacious and thoughtful.  She challenges her audience while challenging herself and the ways of our culture.

Speaking with Alisa is a very real and down to earth experience.  Her passion comes across in every word as she lives with the urgency to get the message of Christ properly out to the world.  During this show she expresses the importance of learning how to form your faith rather than deconstruct the tenants of Christianity as the culture often desires to do. Forming your faith to meet the words of God rather than changing the words of God to meet your faith.

As a parent this show is a must listen to as it encourages parents to be the intentional leaders in guiding their children to know the Word of God.

  • Rock Solid Radio - Navigating in the World of Technology - Episode 175

It's everywhere!  Everywhere we seem to turn technology is putting a new spin on our way of life.  So much of it is amazing as it makes our life more efficient and many tasks much faster.  However, we have discovered that all of the good comes at a cost.  Not just a financial cost, but a cost to many other areas of life.

During this show, Merrill and Linda confess their challenge of using technology in so much of their work, but trying to be a better example to their own kids.  With work now losing its boundaries of a separate office place and timeframe, we see technology being done throughout our working hours no matter where we are.  Driving in the car, eating meals with our family, or sitting in church can be interrupted by technology; mostly the technology in our pockets and purses, the cell phone.

Remember the phrase, "more is caught than taught", as it relates to what our kids are learning from us.  Our kids are being told to cut back on their screen times and get off the video games as the adults are staring at their own phones and computers.  The hypocrisy is real even though we like to dismiss it with comments like, "I'm an adult", or "I'm busy doing work".  These statements are used to release us from the burden of responsibility, but again, more is caught than taught in the eyes of our kids.

Merrill and Linda are not only calling out our kids to be more aware of their technology use, they are calling out all of us adults.  Maybe it's time to look in the mirror and see where the real problem lies.

  • Rock Solid Radio - 12 Ways to Grow Closer to Christ - Episode 174

Do you have a perfect practice of staying connected to Christ?  I know I don't.  Just like I do not have a perfect practice of exercise and diet.  I know many of the things I should do, but the fact is, I don't always do the right things.  And, if I have to be honest, consistency is always a struggle for me.

Let's take this conversation out of the gym and into our relationship with Christ.  In order to take care of anything, whether it is our body, our car, our marriage, or our faith, we must put practices or habits in our life to help the process.  In this show, Merrill and Linda discuss 12 ways to grow closer to Christ. Sometimes people refer to these as Spiritual Disciplines.  In other words, these are the practices or disciplines that you can be more aware of to help you grow and sustain your relationship with Christ.

  • Rock Solid Radio - Introducing Rock Solid Marriages - Episode 173

Linda and Merrill are excited as they take the opportunity to introduce their new online marriage coaching program, Rock Solid Marriages!  In this show they discuss why they felt the need to create the program. What the foundation for the program is.  And how every couple can rebuild and restore their marriage.

The "Why" for the program is simple; broken marriages lead to hurting people.  People that are hurt and living in the pain on a daily basis. Sometimes the pain almost seems to make you numb to your experience and the life you are living.  The problem is that living in a numbed pain means you are causing even more damage and don't even realize as much.  Because you are numb you minimize the pain in your own mind.  Until finally, you look around and see that things simply are not working very well.  Your life is empty, your heart is full of contempt, and your kids are not behaving in love and respect to you or each other.

Rock Solid Marriages covers the necessary steps to help couples rebuild correctly and in a God honoring way.  The following 7 steps are introduced in the show to give a glimpse of where and how the couple will spend they energy rebuilding.

    Step 1 - Home Inspection
Step 2 - Dreaming and Planning
    Step 3 - Demolition Time
Step 4 - Construction Phase Begins
    Step 5 - The Functioning Systems -
    Step 6  - Interior and Exterior -
Step 7  - Marriage Maintenance - Take Care of Your Investment!

If you are finally tired of living in a marriage that is not the one you dreamed of, take a closer look at what you can do to rebuild your best marriage.

  • Rock Solid Radio -Who's Running Your House - Episode 172

Who's running your house?  Is it you, your spouse, the two of you combined, or maybe it's the kids.  What!  Kids running the house seems like a crazy notion, but all too often this is what we see with parentings coming into our office with parenting concerns or children behaving poorly.

When we begin to boil it down we often see very similar patterns; unclear values, lack of unity between parents, confused authority, no boundaries, inconsistent follow through on consequences, and often a lot of arguing.  This does not have to be!

During this show, Linda and Merrill explain how to see what kind of parenting you are currently doing and ways to help you close the gaps in areas that may be producing results that you don't want.

  • Rock Solid Radio - Healthy Boundaries for your Marriage - Episode 171

You and your spouse get along fine.  You have a great relationship and trust each other at all times.  Then you hear and see signs that make you start to have doubts and questions.   Maybe the marriage is not as strong as you thought.  What happened?

Research indicates that about 50% of marriages will fail.  It is safe to say that no one goes into a marriage thinking the marriage is going to fail.  We all start with great intentions and faith that this marriage is forever.  But then we see the reality of at least half of these people walking through divorce, we have to take a second look at what is actually happening.

At Rock Solid Families, we get to see first hand how the strength in a relationship can begin to wane.  We see coldness, contempt, jealousy, mistrust, and hurt that wells up and takes over the emotions of the relationship.  From our work we see the absolute need for a couple to state boundaries and to be intentional about protecting your marriage.  Simple things like having friends of the opposite sex, traveling with a work colleague of the opposite sex, searching back for girlfriends or boyfriends from the past, these are just a glimpse of the things we begin to see that open the door to the marriage being damaged or even broken.

During this show we discuss the more common attacks that we see on the marriage and how a couple needs to defend against such things.  If you or your spouse minimize these actions or even dismiss them, we will tell you it is a "red-flag" in the marriage.  We must take watch and be vigilant about protecting our marriage and family.  We cannot make assumptions that lead us to passivity only to open our eyes and be shocked and dismayed.

If you or someone you know needs help to restore a broken marriage or learn how to better protect the marriage, please reach out to us at https://www.rocksolidfamilies.org/
