  • What Makes A Good Noir Film?

There is a genre in films that is incased with darkness and mystery, one that also has no actual definition surprisingly. Today we take a look at films that embraced the nature of crime in a style that oftentimes relied on black and white and grittiness but more so creating sub-genres that created such a unique style. As always we wanna know what murder you were able to solve as we ask, what makes a good noir film.

  • The Green Knight

When you have one of the most anticipated films of the year and it's by A24, how couldn't we be excited? A tale of Sir Gawain as he plays "a game" with a mythical creature and must embark on a journey one year afterward to finish it. A film that is not only cinematically gorgeous, but is one of the best representations of visual storytelling of the last few years. With nothing bad to really say about this film other than you need to know this is a journey film and less of a mythological quest, it still is fantastic to watch, and that is why a knight does what he does.

  • Grave Of The Fireflies

Not that often in time are there films that are considered "the best movie you'll never watch twice", however, today we get to talk about one of those. A very realistic tale of a brother and sister in Japan during World War 2 as they are left with nothing, and must simply survive. A masterpiece from the great Studio Ghibli as the animation is still just as impressive today as it was in 1988 as well as breaking the fantasy mold that they created for themselves in their films, just make sure to have a few tissues nearby when you hear the fruit candy jar rattle.

  • Birdman

When you feel like your all washed up and no one cares anymore, wouldn't you want one last chance to make people care again? That's exactly what this is about as Riggan, a former superhero actor, now tries to bring a play to life on broadway. In one of the best films to come out of 2014, you have an amazing cast with a unique camera style and stellar soundtrack that will make you feel for Riggan and understand how awful he is as he realizes "popularity is jsut the slutty cousin of prestige"

  • Guilty Pleasure Films

There are those films that may be so bad that everyone hates them, yet you still defend them. In another sense, there are those that you can't help but watch every few weeks even if no one has seen them before. Today we talk about our favorites of these as we watch the un-watchable and as always we wanna hear your favorites as we talk about our guilty pleasure movies.

  • Macbeth (2015)

The times when kings ruled meant that over the land, for better or for worst you were, you were who the people looked up to. Sometimes that way to becoming king is the interesting part. As a great warrior is promised kingship by three witches, his wife convinces him that the way to the top is through...murder! A reimagining that focuses on the slow insanity of the deed paired with the visual effects and score makes this a fantastic film. While Shakespearian-style films are always hard to follow, it might be worth it to become king of Scotland.

  • In & Of Itself

It takes a lot to look within yourself and understand who you truly are. Today we do something a little different as we discuss a film which is also a one-man play. Following Derek DelGaudio as he tells 5 stories that all have a deep connection while managing to also showcase some slight of the hand tricks to create an intriguing story. A film that is an absolute must-watch as it is all around moving and enlightening, we can't help but love this film even though we know "it's not enough to just have a name"

  • The Crucible

There have been many times in history of not being able to trust people due to fear, perhaps this being one of the more well-known though. As an adaptation to Arthur Millers' work, we follow the infamous witch trials in Salem from the point of view of Abigail Williams and John Proctor. A classic story that in its own right is very interesting, however, as a film it feels more like a soap opera than anything else. This doesn't stop an incredible performance from Winona Ryder and Daniel Day-Lewis, just be sure not to forget the 10 commandments, or you might be called a witch too.
