In this piece the team talk about possibly one of the most interesting funding experiments in the US; The Maryland global budgeting experiment. January 2014, after months of negotiations between Maryland and federal authorities, global budgeting went statewide. It was voluntary for hospitals, but within six months every hospital in the state had signed up. Four years on and it is a fascinating case study in how healthcare can be funded in such a way as to essentially incentivise public health measures within the American system, something that was previously seen as a perennial problem.
