In this piece the team talk about possibly one of the most interesting funding experiments in the US; The Maryland global budgeting experiment. January 2014, after months of negotiations between Maryland and federal authorities, global budgeting went statewide. It was voluntary for hospitals, but within six months every hospital in the state had signed up. Four years on and it is a fascinating case study in how healthcare can be funded in such a way as to essentially incentivise public health measures within the American system, something that was previously seen as a perennial problem.
Recorded on the first day of the 'EBPOM USA - Masters Course' this podcast features Desiree Chappell, Monty Mythen, Dr Lee A. Fleisher Chair of Anesthesiology and Critical Care (University of Pennsylvania) and Vicki Morton DNP and Director of Clinical and Quality Outcomes at Providence Anesthesiology Associates University of South Carolina.
