Sermon from June 30, 2019 - based on Luke 7:11-17 –
11 Soon afterward Jesus went on his way to a town called Nain, and[b] his disciples and a large crowd were traveling with him. 12 As he was approaching the town gate, there was a dead man being carried out, the only son of his mother. She was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not cry.” 14 He went up to the open coffin, touched it, and the pallbearers stopped. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” 15 The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.
16 Fear gripped all of them, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us” and “God has visited his people!” 17 This was reported about him in all of Judea and in all the surrounding countryside.

The World English Bible is a work in progress. All Old Testament and New Testament books are essentially done, but well-justified typo reports and translation suggestions will still be considered. Editing work continues on the companion Apocrypha/Deuterocanon books, mostly in the form of slight updates to language and punctuation. In the companion Apocrypha/Deuterocanon of the World English Bible, Tobit, Judith, Esther (Greek), Psalm 151, Daniel (Greek), and Wisdom are essentially done. The rest of the Apocrypha/Deuterocanon/Pseudepigrapha books are an automated update of those books from the Revised Version or copied from the LXX2012: Septuagint in English 2012, depending on the book. These should be at least as accurate as the source translations, but not as polished in modern English usage as the rest of the World English Bible. New updates will be posted on http://eBible.org/web/ and at http://WorldEnglishBible.org.
In the first portion of 1 Corinthians 10, Paul refers to salvation history as an example for his instructions to the Corinthians. In 1400 BC, God's people (the Israelites) had all the same benefits of faith; yet they disregarded God's clear instructions, abused their freedom, and lost their faith through persistent sin. Would the Corinthians heed this warning?

Sunday preview for the 3rd Sunday of Pentecost. Is Jesus trustworthy? If we are to regard him as trustworthy, then he must be both compassionate and powerful.

The choices we make in Christian freedom are done for the love for others and for the glory of God. In every way, our Christian freedom is used to demonstrate Christ's love for us - and consequently, our love for others as a result of Christ's love for us.

Paul uses himself as an example for the proper use of Christian freedom. He has rights as an apostle serving in the public ministry, but he has the freedom to refrain from compensation. Christ has set us free! Let us use our freedom in a way that doesn't hinder the proclamation of the Gospel.
