Jim French was a classically trained illustrator who began his career in fashion and later formed small companies selling nude male illustrations during the late 1960's. French would go on to form Colt Studio; America's first gay porn studio. Dakota a.k.a. Ken Sprague was a popular Colt Man who used his earnings and notoriety to buy a declining Gold's Gym in Venice Beach and turn it into a household name.
