In this episode, we delve into the harrowing period of the Spanish Inquisition, focusing on the story of Maria de Arburu. Maria's story is not well-known, but she is force of strength and her story is to be honored and remembered. Despite the severe torture over seven years and witnessing the death of her fellow accused women, Maria maintained her innocence until her tragic execution on November 1, 1659, during the Auto-da-Fe´ ceremony.

As we create our altars for Samhain, hundreds of years later, we encourage lighting a candle for the ancestors that have come before to honor their memories. Take a moment to express gratitude that we can practice witchcraft and not be put to death for it, and that we can heal in our communities and not be ostracized, entirely, and hunted.
