Mullivaaikaal Remembrance Day events were held in Sydney and Melbourne today. Our producers Kulasegaram Sanchayan and Renuka Thuraisingam attended the event in Sydney and Melbourne respectively. This report is presented by them from the event locations.

At least 20,000 years old, aboriginal paintings were recently found near a Sydney suburb. There are many more such paintings that have not been ‘discovered’ yet.Art and decoration is an integral part of traditional life for Australian Aborigines. There is a variety of paintings done by the first Australians. They vary in type, and in nature. Kulasegaram Sanchayan introduces the indigenous paintings and talks about ten factors to consider about these paintings.

Stories form a significant part of the aboriginal society, through which the history, tradition, the good & bad, and character is passed from one generation to another. Stories are shared with the young from a very tender age. The Federal Government says next week’s budget contains 850 million dollars for childcare services for disadvantaged children.The new early-childhood safety net will include extra subsidies for families and communities to set up childcare facilities and a program to attract staff to work at them.Planned pension changes announced by the federal government have prompted concerns for the hundreds-of-thousands of recipients struggling with mental illness. In this episode of Kalaththulli, Kulasegaram Sanchayan focuses on the introduction of Trout fish to Australia. By the beginning of the twentieth century, trout had been introduced to virtually all water catchments capable of supporting them in Australia. Several other native species have suffered a decline as a result of introducing the trout, in particular the Barred Galaxias and Mountain Galaxias, as well as the Spotted tree frog. Today in Tasmania, trout are now the only fish species in many waters.

Tamil Internet Conference is scheduled to take place in Singapore at the end of this month. Dr Kalyanasundaram, a member of the organising committee of this conference, during his recent visit to Australia talked to Kulasegaram Sanchayan on Tamil Internet Conference.

A lot of us do not know beyond the statistical information that there are Tamils in Fiji…. perhaps some could quote the great poet Bharathiyar for it. After retiring from his legal practice in Australia, Bhagavadas Sriskanthathas took it as a personal mission to find out more about the South Indians, particularly Tamils, in Fiji. Kulasegaram Sanchayan talks to him about his visits to Fiji and his publication of a book of Tamil poems.
