Basically, turning people’s heads by talking about innovation is easy.

Invent some fancy title for yourself which should ideally contain the words “Innovation”, “Digitalisation” or in the best case “Alchemist” and, very important, dress up like a hipster. That adds credibility.

Then you look up youtube for the latest TED Talks and you will be able to reel off the fancy inventions and cloud castle and hope the whole linkedin community will cheer for you.

Well, unfortunately at times it happens to be like that and that’s not good because it takes the substance out of the topic since you forget the most important aspect how true innovation at the customer can be ignited. It should be individual, approachable and tangible. If your inno cases do not touch the individual situation and strategy of the customer, you failed. And you are doing more harm than help.

So lets bring the substance back and put an emphasis on the aspect of tangibility. That’s why I invited somebody who does not only talk about innovation, but also takes care that it is sparked, realized and implemented at awesome customers like Porsche Motorsport. If you have not yet gotten the message that SAP has now something with an X, or Experience Data, you probably live behind the moon. So it is quite obvious that the experience topic has a big strategic relevance for SAP, and that’s not because we want it to be like that, but because winning in the 21st century means adapting to an experience economy where customer centric processes and the emotional connection of your customer to your products should not only be of utter importance for you, it should guide your strategic decisions. But this topic is not only about customers attitude towards you and your products, but also how your employees think about you. So if your best horse quits its job you should not be caught surprised anymore. But we do not want to do an X+O pitch here, we want to tackle the topic a level deeper so I met with Christine Fischer, whose job as Vice President and Head of Business Development is to run that topic and the integration of X+0 in Europe, so she is the right person to give us a 360 degree overview.  We will talk not only about the strategic implications of X Data, but also where we are as SAP in that respect and what the SAP community can expect in the coming months. If you remember Episode 8 of our podcast series featuring the right approach to S/4HANA, Uwe Grigoleit told about the Viessmann case. Viessmann, an international manufacturer heating, industrial and refrigeration systems, had a quite clear case to move to S/4HANA. Inventory savings in two-digit millions as a result of an ERP transformation to S/4HANA made the path for a fast decision to do the Move. But of course, not in all cases, it is easy as that. Imagine a typical approach to S/4HANA. While pitches mostly cover the general benefits, which is ok for a first approach, you have to second that with an individual option. The customer wants to know what’s in for him individually and that’s where an answer within modern process architectures of the 21st century is not so easily given when manually approached. It’s all about questions on which you could spent months.

That’s why SAP offers you intelligent tools that do that work for you. And today I am very pleased to have the man here in Walldorf whose team is behind those great tools like the Business Scenario Recommendations Report and the Pathfinder, Mr. Wassilios Lolas who is as Vice President and Global Head of Customer Value Experience responsible for smoothening your path to become an intelligent enterprise.
