The CDK4 and 6 inhibitors have been game-changers in the management of metastatic HR+, HER2- breast cancer, and accumulating evidence is now showing that they may also provide substantial benefits to some patients in early-stage settings, especially as adjuvant therapy for patients at high risk for disease recurrence. Various novel agents are also emerging as additional options for patients with HR+ breast cancer, including selective estrogen receptor degraders (SERDs) and selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs).
