4 June 2021: In formal mindfulness meditation practice, we are instructed to notice when the mind has wandered from the object of meditation, the breath. Once we notice that we are “thinking,” we are invited to gently return focus to the breath: the in-breath, the out-breath, as well as the tiny space between breaths. Dr. Donna Rockwell will lead us in shamatha-vipashana (mindful awareness) practice, where “returning” to the breath is emphasized to train the brain to do this noticing and returning in daily life.
