International human rights group, Human Rights Watch (HRW), says Australia has made important progress this year in improving human rights.

It cites the legalisation of same sex marriage, and a Royal Commission into the systematic abuse against children in detention as steps in the direct direction - but says many issues remain unresolved.

The assessment comes in its latest World Report 2018  looking at the state of global human rights over the past year.

Welat Agiri was born in 1987 in a villiage in Agri province. He graduated from university in 2009, with a science and technology degree. After graduating from university he started teaching science as a subject in English at international schools abroad. Apart from speaking Kurdish Turkish, he speaks English, Hindi/Urdu and some Arabic.

Until 2014 he did not have any writings in Kurdish, but under the influence of some intellectuals he began to write articles. Also until 2014 he did not have a Facebook account. Mr Agiri says having a Facebook account has many benefits to keep in touch with authors and intellectuals. We spoke to Welat Agiri about the importance the Kurdish language amongst Kurds.

Journalist and TV presenter Ebdo Seydi returns to Kobani eleven years later. Kobani the town which was invaded by IS in 2014 and was completely destroyed by the allies bombings. Mr Seydi told us in his interview that he almost did not recognise the new Kobani, the rebuilt Kobani.
