ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਨਤੀਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਿਖਿਆਰਥੀ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਘਟਦੇ ਹੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਸਾਲ 2014 ਜਦੋਂ ਹਾਈ ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ, 21 ਸਿਖਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਸਾਲ ਘਟਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਿਰਫ 12 ਰਹਿ ਗਈ ਹੈ।

Nanak Singh, the famous Punjabi novelist was right inside Jallianwala Bagh when British soldiers killed hundreds of people rallying there on the Vaisakhi day of 1919. Many dead bodies piled on him, yet he managed to escape alive. This incident affected him deeply, prompting him to write a long stark poem titled 'Khooni Vaisakhi, which was immediately banned by the-then British government.

ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਲਿਖਾਰੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ 1919 ਵਾਲਾ ਜਲਿਆਂਵਾਲੇ ਬਾਗ ਦਾ ਸਾਕਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿੰਡੇ ਤੇ ਹੰਡਾਇਆ ਸੀ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਲੱਗੇ ਲਾਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਢੇਰ ਨੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਲਿਖਾਰੀ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਇੰਨਾ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਹਲੂਣਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹਨਾ ਨੇ ਉਸੀ ਸਮੇਂ ‘ਖੂਨੀ ਵਿਸਾਖੀ’ ਨਾਮਕ ਇੱਕ ਲੰਬੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਰੂਪੀ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਲਿੱਖ ਮਾਰੀ, ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਬਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਪਾਬੰਦੀ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ।

It comes as a handful of municipalities voted to move events, saying it's out of respect for Indigenous people. Some have backed the move, while others believe the government isn't keeping up with the shift in public sentiment.
