Scared To Death

Such a fun show this week as Dan and Lynze take us all over the world. From Greenland to Texas to Croatia to Mexico there is so much paranormal lore to unpack. Dan starts us off in Greenland where a young woman has a possible encounter with it a qivittoq. Then, back in Texas, something at a church knows and whispers the names of people, confusing and scaring them. Lynze shares a tale from a person who traveled to Croatia. While there, the traveler learns the legend of the rusalka. Lastly, we find ourselves in Mexico and have a run in with La Llorona.

Opening Sumerian protection spell (adapted):

"Whether thou art a ghost that hath come from the earth, or a phantom of night that hath no home… or one that lieth dead in the desert… or a ghost unburied… or a demon or a ghoul… Whatever thou be until thou art removed… thou shalt find here no water to drink… Thou shalt not stretch forth thy hand to our own… Into our house enter thou not. Through our fence, breakthrough thou not… we are protected though we may be frightened. Our life you may not steal, though we may feel SCARED TO DEATH."

Dan's first supposedly true supernatural tales comes to us from Tennessee  where we explore the legend of the White Bluff Screamer.  After that, we’ll travel to the end of the 16th century, where in what is now Germany, a man named Peter Stumpp, living in the small farming town of Bedburg , was once tortured and killed after confessing to being a murderous werewolf.
Finally, we’ll stay in the not-so-forgotten past, and explore England’s 1612 Pendle Witch Trials—the deadliest witch trials in English history and a precursor to the Salem Witch Trials here in America. Then, Lulu Marie shares a little head scratcher. A new mom is wondering if she has a ghost or if it's her mom or if its her postpartum depression messing with her. Lastly, we head to Bulgaria for a local legend and modern day encounter.

Both Dan's stories seem to present exceptionally strong evidence for life after death. The first comes from the state of Illinois and is the exceptionally strange late 19th century tale of the Watseka Wonder.  Then his second story takes us back to the early 18th century to Canterbury, England. Did famed English author Daniel Defoe write  the first based-on-a-true story ghost encounter claim? Lynze begins the back half of the show with a creepy encounter with a shadowy figure inside of the mind of someone playing a game. Then, we are off to New Orleans where we hear about two fans strange stay in a French Quarter hotel.

Monthly Patreon Donation: This months charitable donation is going to Ignite Adaptive Sports. Ignite Adaptive Sports mission is to provide snow sport opportunities to people with disabilities. They believe that everyone should be able to enjoy winter sports, regardless of skill or ability level. We are a volunteer based organization that provide snow sport lessons to athletes with disabilities out of Eldora Mountain Resort.  In 2024, 320 volunteers gave 22,390 hours of their time to provide 1,690 snowsports lessons to 459 athletes. Ignite Adaptive Sports provides sit skiing lessons, cross country and snowshoe lessons, downhill skiing, snowboarding and ski biking lessons. They rely on grants, donations, an annual fundraising gala, and our host mountain Eldora to be able to provide this much needed service. Dan and Lynze had the pleasure of meeting Sam Brady who works with this great non profit. Sam shared with us that Ignite Adaptive Sports is run by almost all volunteers with only 2 paid staff members. They typically receive funding for disabled veterans to be able to receive lessons  at no cost to them. However, this year,  due to budget cuts in the DEI space, it’s not looking good. Sam asked if we’d be interested in supporting this cause and supporting disabled people, especially disabled veterans. We sent $11,600 over to them and put another $1250 into the scholarship fund! If you’d like to volunteer your time or make an additional donation, please go to https://igniteadaptivesports.org/

The first story Dan gives us this week was posted online by a man claiming to have recently resolved a  haunting from his childhood apartment. It's bizarre and twisted. Next up,  we are off to Siberia to explore the Tunguska Event. Then, we go with Lynze on a DoorDash delivery from hell. Lastly, we head to Africa for an all new kind of doppleganger, witch, thingy!

In this thirty-sixth installment of fictional horror written and narrated by Dan Cummins.... we meet a man, Duncan Briggs, who agrees to participate in a paid scientific study to make a little cash to get his wife something nice for her birthday while he's in-between jobs. And then things get.... weird. Very, very uncomfortably weird.

We hope all our Creeps and Peeper are also unsettled by our tales this week. Dan starts off in  North Carolina with a story about a man who tried to transform into an actual demon. And some think he was, in a way, successful. Then, his second tale is the story of some of the residents of a housing development outside of Houston, built on a forgotten cemetery, who claim that the spirits of those whose remains were disrespected were both awakened and angered by the destruction of their final resting place. Lynze has three stories today! Her first also takes us to Texas where a strange situation occurs with a neighbor. Then, a woman traveling alone has the creepiest taxi ride to her hotel. Lastly, a young boy runs into the former owner of his Grandmother's home.
