I recently talked with Becky Marchiel, associate professor of history at the University of Mississippi, about how she teaches her U.S. history survey course. After hearing her talk about teaching the habits of mind of a historian, I asked her if she was familiar with Lendol Calder's 2006 essay on Uncoverage. She was, and that got us talking about her journey as a teacher and the role that the scholarship of teaching has played in it.
