  • How To Know When You Need A Break w/Omozua Isiramen

“An estimated 1 million workers are absent every day due to stress. The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work reported that over half of the 550 million working days lost annually in the U.S. from absenteeism are stress related and that one in five of all last minute no-shows are due to job stress”. https://www.stress.org/workplace-stress/

For too long many employers have treated employees like disposable assets. Keep turning up the demands until the employee burns out and quits (or is fired). Advertise the position knowing there was a huge surplus of underemployed, debt burdened, college graduates waiting for a chance to prove they know how to hustle hard.

The good news is that employers that are still utilizing this strategy are entering troubled waters. In Episdoe 36: The People Revolution my guest Judd Borakove talked about the challenges companies are having in attracting and retaining top talent. Many have simply opted to work for themselves.

In today’s episode Omozua Ameze Isiramen and I talk about the importance of rest. Omo, as she is affectionately called knows of what she speaks. She iis an Emotional Mastery, Executive & Neuro Leadership Coach dedicated to helping executives, mid and top-level professionals and entrepreneurs live a life that feels good. Employers would be wise to listen to her message.

  • The Intersection of Technology with Neurological Conditions | Shaji Nair Dec 14

Autism is challenging parents, families, schools and communities in ways few could have ever imagined. The CDC tells us that 1 in 59 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with autism, and that boys are 4 times more likely to be diagnosed. Research also shows that the cost of caring for Americans with autism reached $268 billion in 2015.  In the absence of more-effective interventions and support those costs are projected to rise to $461 billion by 2025. https://www.autismspeaks.org/autism-facts-and-figures

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg? The real costs are much higher in terms of emotional stress and lost economic opportunities.

    It is a BIG problem.

Shaji Nair’s son was diagnosed with Autism at the age of three. Shaji and his wife went on a journey to educate themselves on Autism and look for solutions. They realized that the medical profession, for good reasons, is heavily regulated, and that one of the unintended consequences of regulation is that it stifles innovation.

Both parents have IT backgrounds, and so they decided something needed to be done. He left behind his corporate career and funded the Future In Technology Summit. The organization hosts Future of Technology Summits around the world. One of the big goals is to create a bridge between the autism community and technology leadership, to jointly identify challenges to help improve the lives of people with autism around the world.

In this episode Shaji talks about his mission to improve the lives of individuals and families living with autism, gives us the run down on the upcoming Future of Technology Summit in Washington DC (February 2019), and shares his views of the potential impacts of technology on the coming decades.

  • Practical Resilience w/Tofe Evans

To some, he's known as "that kid" who ran an ultramarathon down the slopes of Mt Everest. However, to most, he's known as one of the world's youngest thought leaders on Practical Resilience and developing a Peak Performance Mindset.

Tofe Evans has completed over 60+ endurance events and when asked: "Why do you put your body through such torture?" he, with a smile, responds with "It can't be any more painful than what I have had to overcome."
Tofe understands what it means to fight through adversity after barely making it out of his early twenties with his life. It was a losing battle for Tofe as depression and anxiety fuelled by drugs and alcohol abuse became a staple of his early life.
After a terrifyingly close call, Tofe figured out how to channel all of his pain, anguish, and despair into a back-to-back series of insane physical challenges that many would consider impossible.
In 2018, he released his first book 'Everyone Has A Plan Until Sh!t Hits The Fan,' which instantly became a bestseller and saw him travel around the world to speak at international conferences including SXSW.In just a few short years, Tofe went from his absolute lowest point in life to share and teach his methods for developing an UNBREAKABLE mindset. He calls it Practical Resilience.

  • Understanding Our Own Gifts  | Logan Nelson

Have you ever wanted something so bad, that the thought of not getting it made you want to kill yourself?

Logan Nelson wanted to be an actor, and did everything within his power to make his dream come true. He went to college and studied his craft. He prioritized going to auditions over his work commitments, and spent hours memorizing lines that many people could have memorized in far less time. Then one day Logan realized there was a good chance life was not going to give him what he wanted. He started thinking about all the sacrifices he’d made in pursuit of his dream. With the goal of being an actor seemingly beyond his reach, Logan walked to the top of a 3-story parking garage and jumped. His first thought when he realized that somehow he had not broken his neck, was to think that there must be a better way to end things.

Today Logan is a much loved Podcast Host and LinkedIn Video Creator. His willingness to open up about his own struggles, past and current, resonates with people of all ages and all walks of life. He may not see it, but the skills Logan developed as an actor are on full display in his videos and on his podcast. Viewers and listeners can feel his pain, his honesty, and his underlying optimism (although at times he goes to great lengths to hide it).

Logan Nelson has a special gift and the world is a better place because of it. This is a thought provoking episode which will cause many of us to reflect on the goals we’re chasing and reflect upon our own special gifts.

  • Mind Games #2 - Whose Dream Are You Chasing

Welcome to Episode 2 of the Mind Games solo series on the Screw the Naysayers Podcast.

Today’s episode is titled, Whose Dream are You Chasing?

I start with a short reading from my book (with a couple of tweaks). It talks about a time in my life when I was living a lie. From the outside looking in I had it all. Inside I was dying. I was killing myself with destructive habits, an absent father and a lousy husband, and right on the verge of a complete mental breakdown. Looking back, had I continued on this path, I sincerely believe that I would have been dead or  divorced within five years. Probably both, and probably sooner.

People often ask me how I let things get this bad? Truth is I was confused about what was causing my unhappiness. Most of the time I thought there must be something wrong with me. I had everything I’d set out to achieve, so if I wasn’t happy I must be defective in some way. And even when I did figured out what the real problem was, my mind kept telling me I must be wrong. I couldn’t have been that stupid.

Turns out I was doing what so many of us do. I was chasing goals other people had set for me. In this short episode of Mind Games I’ll share with you three lessons I learned during this process.

How about you? Did you ever find yourself chasing goals that you didn’t really own? What did you do to change that?

Share your stories so we can all learn from it. Get in touch.
