Twenty years before the start of the Technological Revolution, English author Aldous Huxley wrote Brave New World. Largely set in a futuristic World State of genetically modified citizens and an intelligence-based social hierarchy, the novel anticipates huge scientific developments in reproductive technology, sleep-learning, psychological manipulation, and classical conditioning that are combined to make a utopian society that goes challenged only by a single outsider.
Huxley foretold a wildly creative and wildly pessimistic view of the future of mankind. Flash forward 85 years and once again there are all sorts of predictions of coming doom. Are they justified?
Mark Metry doesn’t think so. In fact Mark believes that the future is infinitely bright.
In fact, he believes that fifty years from now people are going to look back to today with amusement.
“Man those people were so confused, and oh my god, do you believe that people were walking around without augmented reality interface that was directly connected to their optical nerve? Man, how were they living life? They must have been barbarians.”

This is Episode 1 of the Screw The Naysayers podcast, solo series, Mind Games. Today is just you and me, and it’s called “The Voice.” The voice I’m talking about is the one that gets inside your head and tries to stop you from making positive changes in your life. Especially if you’re thinking about making a big life transition.
In todays episode I explain why I decided to start this solo series, share a short reading with you from my book Screw the Naysayers, explain five things that you should know about the voice and close by sharing 3 things you can do to start using the voice to your advantage.
Do you let the voice in your head stop you from doing things you really want to do? Or do you use it as a compass to point you in the right direction? Share an example so we can all learn from it.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I’d love to hear your thoughts, comments, and stories, or just make a connection.

“Every time the time was right all the words just came out wrong.”
Has this ever happened to you? You’re speaking with a person who could change your life, but you just can’t find the words to say what you want to say.
If you’re a musician, like Jim Croce, you might break into song and save the moment. The rest of us have to learn to Say Things Better.
Meet Lila Smith.
Lila is the Creator of #SayThingsBetter, a Strategic Communication Mentor for Tech Startups, and a much in demand global public speaker.
Yes, she is a bit of a word geek, but Lila is not your average shy librarian. She’s a trained actress who spent many years working on the stage.
Now you might be asking, what does communication have to do with acting? But then, if you’re like me, you stop and realize that communication is the essence of acting.
In this episode Lila shares with us the approach she uses to help entrepreneurs say things better. You’re going to be shocked at the simplicity of it.
She talks about one of the unexpected impact of her decision to start her own business and move to Dallas Texas, and that is the strains that it's put on her relationships with family and friends.
And if you want to see Lila in action, stick around to the end. Lila actually coaches me through an exercise to bring clarity to my own communication. (Free coaching. Yea!).

“I’m more impressed with my grandfather than anyone else and the reason why is because when he was 13 years old in he was in a concentration camp in Auschwitz and he actually went into 18 concentration camps in total. He was on 3 death marches. Both of his parents were murdered. His siblings were murdered. He was shot and buried alive at one point and climbed out when it was safe. He was hung twice and sirens went off, false alarms, and he escaped. And when he was liberated finally at 18 years old, he literally had nothing. And when I say nothing I don’t mean low wifi or the battery died on his cell phone.”
Daniel’s grandfather went on become the owner of a successful hotel in Switzerland. He is remembered by the big smile he had when greeting guests. As Daniel put it, “and this was a man that had gone through hell.”
