What matters in the Church is not numbers, but our relationship to Christ Jesus, the purity of our doctrine, and the purity of our life, living, and thinking. What matters is that in the midst of our unity with our all of our diversity that we have a vital living organic relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord! Such a relationship will affect our speech. There are people who are controlled and animated by a party-spirit, by labels, and by a censorious spirit; and if you do not subscribe to their particular way of thinking you are condemned. Imagine how our Lord is disappointed when He has given gifts to each of us that He intends for each of us to use, and yet we never take the trouble to ever put them to work and then excuse ourselves from serving the church by saying that we can’t do anything! Getting more specific, Jesus Christ gave, as gifts, apostles, prophets, evangelists and shepherd teachers to you beloved, to equip you, the saints, for the work of ministry, for the building up the body of Christ, know as the church.

Christ gave to His church ministerial gifts in order to mature the saints for the work of ministry. These Christ-given gifts are apostles, prophets, evangelists, and shepherds/teachers.
