  • 118 | ADHD Emotional Regulation With The ADD Couple
Listen, as The ADD Couple get into the topic of ADHD emotional regulation.
Brett Thornhill and I discuss Dr William Dodson’s Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria in detail. After all, wouldn’t we all like to understand the emotional realm of ADHD better?
I’m sharing our episode here so you can hear for yourself how much info we cover on our podcast. We air new episodes twice a week!
I hope you’ll enjoy it and subscribe to both podcasts: The ADD Couple and See in ADHD.
    Awesome Quote:
“Sometimes your emotions can feel real…like physical things.”
    ADHD Emotional Regulation
Emotional regulation profoundly impacts people’s lives; however, it’s perhaps the least researched topic.
That’s because it’s really hard to apply scientific method to something as subjective as emotions.
But that doesn’t mean that emotions are real or really difficult to manage when you have ADHD.
The good news…we’re starting to know why!

  • 117 | A Man of Distraction - ADHD Superhero With Pen In Hand
Listen, as Kelly Babcock shares his story of ADHD diagnosis and how he came to be known as A Man of Distraction, an awesome ADHD Superhero name, don't you think?
As a singer songwriter, writer of music and poetry, Kelly shares his creative talents with the world.
He also has two columns with Psych Central:
    A Man of Distraction
    http://blogs.psychcentral.com/adhd-man
    Today I Love
    http://blogs.psychcentral.com/today-i-love/
Please be sure and check them both out!
You can also find Kelly with his band, Hot Black Coffee, on Youtube and Reverb Nation (see links below)
    KELLY'S AWESOME QUOTE:
"The things that squash us down and hold us back that are a part of having ADHD, we're very good at hiding that...especially from ourselves."
    ADHD Superhero
While A Man of Distraction is a great superhero name, the truth is, Kelly's gift with words make him a real life ADHD Superhero to those who enjoy his works.
I did ask how he's able to sit and focus while writing since I could sense that sitting still through our interview wasn't easy. He went on to explain that it's because during the writing process his mind is free to run wild, so, he's therefore able to physically sit still and focus.
Kelly's sense of humor made our time together a lot of fun. (You can tell I was having a blast by the laughter)
I especially love his warning to naysayers..."ADHD is never gonna go away and they need to accept...'cause eventually we'll be running the world...we'll remember who didn't like us."
However, after the interview, he did share his true intentions, "What I want is for people with ADHD to quit beating themselves up. I don't want them telling themselves it's a gift, but I want them to understand that this is where they start from and all they have to do is move forward."

  • 115 | How Strategies Can Make Life With ADHD Better
“ADHD strategies can make life better,” says Doug Puryear, author of Your Life Can Be Better Using Strategies for Adult ADD/ADHD.
Doug is a psychiatrist who diagnosed himself with ADHD at age 64.
He’s also a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loves to write. Be sure and check out his blog, ADDadultstrategies – Tips O the Day.
Fortunately, he sought an official diagnosis from another doctor, started taking ADHD medication, and has developed the talent of problem solving.
    DOUG'S AWESOME QUOTE:
“Identify the problem, make a strategy, make a rule, make a habit.”
    ADHD Strategies
First, Doug says, you have to identify there is a problem. He explains before diagnosis he didn’t realize how his ADHD affected him, or created problems for him or his family…like losing his keys twice a week. He figured, that’s just life!
The next step is to create a strategy to implement. It needs to be one that you can commit to even if it seems like it’ll be difficult.
He says, from this strategy will be a rule you have to devise so that you have a go-to approach. For example, if the strategy is to use a calendar, the rule may be to put the activity in your calendar the minute you schedule it. Or, add an alarm to everything you put in your calendar.
There will then be a period of success and failure…trial and error…but eventually, you can make a habit.
Because habits are things that we don’t really worry about doing or put much effort into doing…that’s the goal, to habitualize your strategies.

  • 114 | Need an ADHD Debt Management Plan?
Do you need an ADHD debt management plan? A lot of folks do.
Darla Dixon has been kind enough to come on today and share her family's experience with debt management.
She is a portrait artist, so please do check out her work at darladixon.com.
her story, unlike many others, has a very happy ending! Listen to how she got rid of almost $34,000.00 of debt in a little over 4 years.
    DARLA'S AWESOME QUOTE:
"Your debt is like volunteer slavery."
    ADHD Debt Management
First, Darla lays out for us exactly what got her family into the position of owing WAY more than they could pay off. (spoiler alert -->> It could happen to you!)
Next, she talks about the power of asking for help, something many with ADHD find hard to do.
Then she gives you the name of the people who helped her and guess what? They may be able to help you in the same way!
As Darla explains, the whole problem stems from paying interest on interest, which only leads to the dreaded snowball effect!
Before you know it, you're stressed to the max and have nowhere to turn. It doesn't have to be that way.
Pleasemoney let us know what you think of the show by leaving your comments below.

  • 113 | Being True To Yourself Is Key With ADHD
Being true to yourself is key with ADHD; yet, it can seem tricky when being yourself means being various things at various times.
Today, we're catching up with Brookley Wofford. Listen to her on episode 3, from months ago. I've been curious how she's doing since then and as it turns out, she has a lot share!
After her reign as Miss Minnesota United States, along with all of it's responsibilities and opportunities, she began to set her sights on new interests.
Recently, her fiancé and her have set a date, bought their first home, and a couple of jet-skis. She also spends her time, outside work, restoring old furniture and preparing to show her new Thoroughbred, Lone Star Sparkle.
    BROOKLEY'S AWESOME QUOTE:
"I have my bad days, I have really great days... the thing is being positive."
    Being True
Brookley speaks to the highest level about personal awareness and acceptance and has determination to remain a positive motivating force for others.
She's come to terms with the fact that for her, there is no one "thing" in life.
Her interests are too varied for that!
In this episode, listen in as she shares her strategy for balancing all of the various activities that make up her day.
She explains how using dedicated time wisely makes all things possible, even all of these new things in her life!
