  • 102 | Q & A With Podcaster And ADHD Blogger Tom Nardone
ADHD blogger and podcaster, Tom Nardone, with his wife, Yvonne, are some of my favorite people. Checkout their podcast, The Tom Nardone Show.
I’ve had Tom and his wife on before, see episode 90.
And, in my 100th episode, he came on as my first guest. He’s responsible for the amazing opening soundtrack that was way over the top, but totally awesome!
I asked listeners to write in questions for him to answer, and he was happy to oblige.
The only problem was that I had to edit a lot out to keep the show, overall, closer to an hour.
So, here’s your chance to hear the whole unedited version of Tom’s segment.
    ADHD Blogger
Tom wasn’t always a podcaster. In fact, he first rose to fame as an ADHD blogger.
Here’s an excerpt from, I am Tom Nardone, and I am ADD.
“I have spoken to a lot of parents, who have children with ADD. They all have at least one thing in common; they all care about their children. I categorize them into two groups; those that medicate, and those who do not medicate. I fully agree with those who medicate, and I understand the skepticism for those that don’t.
I am Tom Nardone. When I was growing up I can remember back to some of the things that were done or said to me as a result of being ADD. I had a real hard time understanding simple instructions, because I could not quiet my own mind long enough to listen when they were given.”
He’s also such a good writer he’s written a book, Chasing Kites. I recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic account of growing up with undiagnosed ADHD.
Please leave a comment below on your thoughts of the show.

  • 100 | See In ADHD's Epic 100th Episode
Thank you for listening to See in ADHD. I’m Jennie Friedman and I invite you to join me in celebrating my epic 100th episode!
I wanted this episode to be for the people who make the show possible, you…the people who listen to it.
You see, it’s not just the 100th episode, but also, at the time of my writing this…there are 96,635 downloads as well.
Okay, I wanted 100,000 by the 100th episode, but hey, the fact that this show has been played tens of thousands of times in the last 5 months is awesome!
    JENNIE'S AWESOME QUOTE:
“I’m changing the cultural conversation around ADHD two ears at a time http://apple.co/1RGp5xu Listen how on my podcast http://www.seeinadhd.com ”
    Epic 100th Episode
I’ve kept it a secret until now…but basically this is an epic 100th episode!
I invited 4 loyal listeners to share with me their favorite guest, and then had them meet (while recording, of course!)
After thanking an incredible friend of mine, Tom Nardone, for his support and contribution, first up is Michelle and Lynne. Listen to them talk, one mom to another. Next, you’ll hear from Michael, a truck driver, meet with beauty queen, Brookley. What do they have in common? A love for creative genius and charity! Next, we listen in to Steve, a graphic artist, as he meets Andrew, a coach who shares a similar history as he. And finally, another Michelle meets her favorite guest, Corey. His explanation of how what “others tell you to focus on is the distraction,” hit home for her, while catapulting him into YouTube notoriety.
So what do mothers, truck drivers, beauty queens, graphic artists, coaches and actors have in common?
See in ADHD and find out for yourself. The more we talk about the differences we see in ADHD, the more you’ll see how much everyone is alike.

  • 099 | Your 2.0, Life After The ADHD Diagnosis
Brett was diagnosed with ADHD in his 40’s. He clearly remembers what it was like before and says that life now, since his ADHD diagnosis, is better.
In this episode, he describes his transformation based on awareness, acceptance, and embracing his ADHD.
The passion for helping others based on what’s he’s learned is reflective in his life. He even changed careers to become an ADHD Coach, the only one, in fact, in Newfoundland, Canada.
    BRETT'S AWESOME QUOTE:
    After his later-in-life diagnosis:
“I’ve seen both sides of that coin, and this side’s better.”
    Life After the ADHD Diagnosis
Brett Thornhill is a fellow ADHD Coach whom I met at the 2015 CHADD Conference in New Orleans, Louisianna. I asked him on the show because he’s an ispiration and I believe his is a story worth sharing. His point of view, while unique for him, is also the story of millions.
He describes some of the feelings that he experienced from the almost grief-like process upon diagnosis to the joy of reinvention. He likes to say that since his diagnosis he has become Brett 2.0.
As my friend and colleague, Brett coproduces the podcast The ADD Couple with me. Please do check it out if you want to hear two ADHD Coaches talk about all things ADHD. And if you like it, please do subscribe, rate, and review the show.

Brian King is master of bashing barriers associated with ADHD and other learning challenges as an international speaker, social worker and success coach.
He, himself, has both physical and mental barriers he’s had to learn to work around. So, he can relate to almost any challenge.
One of his biggest lessons has been that it’s okay to have others help you. In fact, he affectionately refers to his three sons as his ‘To-Do Crew.’
Be sure to check out his site and get his free ebook, ‘Executive Functions 101’!
    BRIAN'S AWESOME QUOTE:
“Embrace the fact that you have some vulnerabilities, there’s stuff that your brain simply doesn’t do. And, it’s okay to use tools and to lean on other people because at the end of the day we are all in this together.”
    Barriers Associated With ADHD
Brian is a communication specialist and that’s because he’s had to work so very hard to learn how to effectively communicate himself.
Born with ADHD, dyslexia, and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, he explains that like his sons with Asperger’s, he knows the frustration of not catching the nuances of social situations and being misunderstood.
In this episode, he shares one story of how a dear friend helped him out in a social situation that many others found too awkward to address.

  • 088 | How Productive Avoidance Works
How productive avoidance works is by considering how to make use of down time. It’s all a judgement call on your part; what should be done versus what will get done.
My partner in crime, Brett Thornhill, is my cohost on The ADD Couple. Check us out on iTunes!
He joins me in discussing everything through the ADHD lens on that show. So, I’m sharing this episode about productive avoidance with you and hope you’ll enjoy it and subscribe to both podcasts: The ADD Couple and See in ADHD.
    AWESOME QUOTE:
“I found myself back, knowing in my head there was a whole bunch of stuff I should be doing, but still trying to avoid them.”
    Productive Avoidance
You know when you get back from vacation, that feeling that you’re not quite ready to go back to your daily routine? Or, it could just be Monday, and you’re coming off a great weekend, not feeling the level of motivation you know you need to get back into the swing of things?
Brett and his family went on vacation and had a fabulous time together. It was really hard to get his head back into work. As he says, he went into avoidance mode.
Listen, as we discuss avoidance, prioritizing, judgement, Sunday Gut, and how we deal with emotional stress.

  • 096 | Teaching With ADHD In Mind, Artist + Teacher
Who is better at teaching folks with ADHD than someone who has it herself?
Aerie North began by teaching children but now successfully teaches art online to both, kids and adults. And, she’s teaching with ADHD in mind.
She encourages everyone, even her own children, to use their creativity, whether they feel artistic or not.
Aerie took her creativity and passion for art to begin her teaching career (after her first thought, a career in finance, didn’t pan out.)
Listen and enjoy, she’s quite a great story-teller too!
    AERIE'S AWESOME QUOTE:
“I gained the kids’ trust immediately because I let them be them.”
    Teaching with ADHD
Aerie shares her story of education when she was growing up. It’s similar to many like her, always being told she wasn’t living up to her potential.
Her past informs how she treats the people she teaches now; she understands everyone learns differently and lets people be themselves.
Check out her short, yet, content rich classes on Skillshare. As she explains, they’re complex but creative and you will learn something.

  • 095 | Stigma Around ADHD And Coexisting Conditions
Charley Burt is successful, smart, funny, compassionate, and has ADHD and coexisting conditions, both mental and physical.
In our conversation we also touch on how familial suicide has impacted both of us, fueling our passion to share with others the struggles involved in all forms of illness.
We also talk about the horrors of being judgmental against others; yet, recognize that may be because it’s the thing we hate most in ourselves.
    CHARLEY'S AWESOME QUOTE:
“The doctor said, ‘Your mental issues are not causing your physical issues, your physical issues are causing your mental issues’ … talk about validation!”
    ADHD and Coexisting Conditions
ADHD rarely travels alone, and in Charley’s case, her special genetic make-up includes CPTSD, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, Fibromyalgia, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as well.
Listen, as she describes how validating it was to hear from a doctor finally, that no, she’s not making any of this up.
You’ll enjoy Charley’s warmth as she shares stories of self-discovery and self-disclosure, mindful that both still a work in progress.
Considering that all of her, as she calls them, acronyms, have overlapping symptoms, determining what physical ailment is contributing to which mental issue is a puzzle she’s determined to solve.
