Seeds of Hope: Talks and Homilies by Fr. Mike Muhr

Prophets don’t sing; they shout - calling us back to the Lord, but in this episode you’ll hear of Isaiah singing of his friend who had a wonderful vineyard. It’s a beautiful song that turns sad. You’ll see why as you listen in.

Prayer for a Magnanimous Heart
Keep us, O God, from all pettiness,
Let us be large in thought, in word, in deed.
Let us be done with faultfinding
and leave off all self-seeking.
May we put away all pretense and meet each
other face to face,
without self-pity, and without prejudice
and always be generous.
Let us always take time for all things,
and make us grow calm, serene and generous.
Teach us to put into action our better impulses,
to be straightforward and unafraid.
Grant that we may realize
that it is the little things of life that create differences,
that in the big things of life we are as one.
Lord God, let us not forget to be kind.

—Queen Mary Stuart (1542-1587)

Gospel from the Feast of Saint Lawrence

John 12:24-26

The Father will honor whoever serves me.

Jesus said to his disciples: “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me.”
