    About Matt

If you’d like to reach out to Matt, you may contact him on his website. You may also connect with him on LinkedIn  or through email: [email protected].

    Episode Highlights[03:05] Being a Founder
    • The founder holds the responsibility of upholding great values. These values will become ingrained into the culture of the company.
    • Each company is unique and every founder should bring something to the table. Matt considers his empathy toward customers and devotion to the company’s ideals his unique qualities.
    • Building a company with other people is similar to marriage. There are ups and downs.
    • Working with co-founders required research, communication, and honesty with each other.

[09:53] Formation and Organization of a Company
    • Matt’s entrepreneurial journey began after college. He became exposed to other like-minded people, one of which became his friend and co-founder.
    • All founding members of Matt’s new business formed out of connections. Some of them were people he reconnected with.
    • God is the maker of your connections. He directs everyone to the path they need to be on, similar to how Matt met his co-founders.
    • Despite everyone’s readiness, trials and challenges were ever-present.

    [22:08] Redefining Success
    • Matt’s first company was HomeStack. It was built out of his co-founder’s passion for real estate, as well as his dad’s background in the real estate business.
    • Matt’s mantra in HomeStack is: it takes years of experience to improve; it takes small improvements over time. He later brought the same mantra to Pray.com
    • His experiences taught him about making mistakes in business and taking risks.
    • Being customer-oriented and understanding the market conditions is vital in planning the growth of a company.

[26:08] “There are no silver bullets. There are small improvements over time.” - Click Here to Tweet This[30:18] Losing and Finding His Life Purpose
    • Despite having a successful and thriving business at HomeStack, Matt felt that he was not on the right path that God put him on.
    • He sought God’s guidance about his life purpose through prayers.
    • Coincidentally, Matt reconnected with one of his friends who told him about Pray.com. He believed it was the opportunity to fulfill his life purpose.
    • Pray.com became a digital destination of faith, especially during the pandemic. After receiving feedback from customers that he saved their lives and brought them closer to God, Matt has now realized his true life purpose.

[31:32] “I felt that I wasn't on the path that God wanted me on. I felt that my purpose was not being fulfilled. For me, the business had become automated. It's great to have a business that's helping people.” - Click Here to Tweet This[35:28] The Real Source of Success
    • Many high-performers create visions and strategies and set goals as their achievement.
    • Matt recounted the shift of religious ministry from word of mouth to written form. As an innovator, he recognized the need for transforming ministry digitally.
    • Matt felt nervous leaving the company he built and venturing into a new one, but he translated it into excitement instead.

[44:03] To Grind or to Pause?
    • Starting a new company meant going back to the bottom and grinding your way back up. For HomeStack, it took a decade before they finally felt like a real company than a startup.
    • There is no overnight success. You build everything from long hours of hard work. It meant losing time with others or even yourself.
    • If you are creating and innovating a business that God ordained you to do, you should put your effort into making it successful.
    • The amount of energy and effort you put into the business is your key to success.

[45:22] “There are all these stories of overnight successes that we like to immortalize in the news and on television... It's definitely not the case for us at Pray.com. And, definitely not the case for a lot of those other stories that are made to sound like they were overnight successes. It is hard work. It is a grind. It is 100-hour weeks.” - Click Here to Tweet This[52:32] Having a Business Model
    • According to Matthew, Pray.com has investors who believe in the company’s vision and mission.
    • Despite having a paid subscription, having a ton of free content on the app allowed more people to know about Pray.com.
    • During the start of the pandemic, Pray.com enabled free content geared for children because they knew that everyone was inside their homes. Sleep stories were also made available for free.
    • For a business to run well, Matt stated that you need to have both margin and mission; both profit and purpose.

[55:19] “You have to have margin and mission. You have to have profit and purpose... We wanted to create a for-profit company, so it could grow large enough where we could positively impact everyone in the world.” - Click Here to Tweet This[56:29] Understanding and Adapting to Data Trends
    • Allowing an open community post where everyone can communicate and share prayers is a great way to connect people.
    • In Pray.com, people can request prayers from others.
    • Many consumers use the app at night, so he made a Bible bedtime series to cater to the user’s preferences.
    • Prayer meditations also allowed people in trouble to cope.

    3 Reasons to
    1. Learn about Tim’s seven steps that will help you to thrive in chaotic times.
    2. Discover how important it is to grow in spirit, soul, and body.
    3. Understand how these principles are connected and how they ease the chaos you are in.

Episode Highlights[03:46] Micro and Macro Events
    • There are degrees of chaos: micro or macro levels.
    • Micro events are situations in your personal life, while macro events happen on a global scale.
    • These events take place simultaneously and may cause you stress and strain.

[04:11] “Our lives go through ebbs and flows and seasons.” - Click Here to Tweet This [13:10] #1: Stop the Bleeding
    • Like a medical triage, this step determines where most of the blood is coming from.
    • Applying this to reality can mean cutting costs or expenditures.
    • This step attempts to identify where the problem is before it hits more critical or chaotic situations.

    [18:23] #2: Guard Your Mind
    • This step pushes you to develop practices to help you clear your mind.
    • Check the kind and amount of information you’re allowing yourself to receive.
    • Be mindful of the communication and conversation you’re having.

    [23:53] #3: Invest in Yourself
    • Instill good things in your mind.
    • You can do this by listening to podcasts, reading, taking on a new hobby, or developing a new skill.
    • This step shows you the importance of growing in spirit, soul, and body.

[28:19] “There’s only one person responsible for investing in yourself, and that’s you.”  - Click Here to Tweet This[29:18] #4: Evaluate and Assess
    • Make an effort to analyze your personality traits.
    • Assess your strengths, talents, and the tools that are already available to you.
    • Evaluate the things that drive you forward and those that drain you.

[31:00] “I had someone ask me recently, ‘You know what the key to success is?’ And I don’t like to narrow it to one thing. But if someone were to pin me down, I think it would be self-awareness, to know about ourselves, to be able to say, ‘You know this is something that I’m pretty good at.’ ‘This is something that I’m not good at.’ ‘This is something that gives me passion.’ ‘I really get a lot of energy.’ ‘This is something that drains me.” So self-awareness is really that key.” - Click Here to Tweet This[32:01] #5: Ask for Help
    • This step involves moving past the struggle of admitting that you need help sometimes.
    • Asking for help shows humility.
    • By allowing yourself to receive help, you can achieve more in your life.

[36:03] #6: Give Help To Others
    • This step goes hand in hand with asking for help.
    • Through helping others, we are also able to decrease issues and chaos around us.

    [38:13] #7: Start Moving
    • This step entails taking action based on the knowledge you have about the other key steps.
    • Don’t get stuck during chaotic times. You have to move forward.
    • You’re embarking on your journey to thrive by moving and taking action.

[38:57] “Because if you’ve done all of these things 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and then you sit around and do nothing, then I would venture to say in all likelihood, you’re not going to move beyond the chaos, the situation — whatever is going on — because you're going to be stuck. It’s almost going to be like a situation where you're in quicksand. So, start moving.” - Click Here to Tweet This Enjoy the Podcast?

    About Glenn

Glenn Lundy is an author, motivational speaker, and automotive industry leader. He pioneered the 800% Club to help owners and managers transform their company culture. To learn more, you may visit his website or connect with him on LinkedIn, Instagram, or Twitter.

Episode Highlights[08:20] How #RiseandGrind Came to Be
    • Its purpose is to help people change the way they start their day.
    • Glenn is a huge believer in powerful morning routines that allow us to tap into our mind, body, and spirit and give us a good reset so we can build solid foundations and move forward.
    • He considers #RiseandGrind as his service or ministry. He doesn’t care about the profits, but he just wants to give back and make an impact.
    • It started as a show, and then people wanted a Facebook group, and then shirts.,This led to a clothing line, and now they have planners and live events.
    • They also started taking it offline, going out into communities, helping homeless people, and supporting members who were battling cancer.

[17:01] Thoughts on the New Normal
    • Luckily, he quit his job in the retail side of the automotive world before COVID hit. Because of this, he and his family have been largely unaffected by the pandemic. Glenn is still amazed at how God was able to put them in that position.
    • This is his driving force behind showing and waking up at 3 a.m. everyday. He continues to connect and allow God to do work through his ministry.

    [21:33] How #RiseandGrind Changed Glenn
    • The thing about going live is you have to look at yourself in the eye and see yourself speak every time.
    • Going live holds him accountable to being true to his word, thoughts, and actions.
    • He has to make sure that his every word matches his character and integrity.
    • Glenn now saw God as this fierce warrior, inspiring him to be thankful for what he has.

    [28:23] The Morning 5
    • The Morning 5 stemmed from Glenn testing out and learning from multiple powerful morning routines.
    • While studying success, he noticed how successful people have morning routines that tap into humans' three dimensions: the mind, body, and spirit.
    • After trying different things and finding out what worked, Glenn came up with what he calls the “5 Steps to an Extraordinary Life.”
    • The steps are simple; the challenge is doing them consistently.
    • It’s about creating a foundational, strong, systematic, powerful morning routine that serves you and others by hitting those three dimensions.

[33:10] On Misses or Changes in the Morning Routine
    • You shouldn’t miss your morning routine if you can help it.
    • Nonetheless, there are key components in your routine that allow for flexibility.
    • Glenn gets up so early so that no one can interfere with his routine.
    • It’s important to find and create the space for reflection, connection, and gratitude.

[35:42] “Because we’re human and not God, we have to have some systems to really make sure that we spend time and reflect, spend time and connect, spend time and get grounded, spend time and get present, spend time in gratitude.” - Click Here to Tweet This[38:15] The Study of Sleeping Patterns
    • Long ago, it didn’t make sense for our ancestors to sleep for 8 straight hours a day.
    • In the biological makeup of our DNA, we sleep in cycles of either light or deep sleep, with the cycles lasting around 2-3 hours each.
    • You can figure out your cycle through sleep tracking apps. Once you do, you can add or remove cycles.
    • The key is never to allow yourself to wake up in the middle of a sleep cycle, or else you can become groggy and lack energy.

    [43:43] The Pandemic’s on Glenn’s Mindset
    • The only thing that changed for him was how he and his family are now watching the news everyday.
    • They were walking in fear instead of walking in faith.
    • So, instead of passively protecting their mindset, he began being very active in protecting them mentally.

    [49:17] Glenn’s Background
    • Glenn’s dad is black while his mom is white, and they got divorced when he was 11.
    • His parents both remarried, and they lived two apartments away from each other, allowing Glenn to still see them both regularly.
    • He struggled because his skin was too dark to be white and too light to be black, so he had difficulty figuring out where he fit in.
    • He became a chameleon and tried to get along with everyone on a surface level because forming deep relationships was hard.
    • Now, he considers his struggles as God’s gift to him because he is able to connect with so many people.

[55:46] “Just because we grew up a little bit different or just because we disagree — and we can wholeheartedly disagree — I still love you the same. You add value into my life, and I will do everything in my power to add value to yours.” - Click Here to Tweet This[57:14] Glenn in the Automotive Industry
    • In addition to living a miserable life outside of work, Glenn spent half of his career in a dealership that never had any growth.
    • Meanwhile, his last 10 years in the industry was incredible.
    • He went back into the industry with the mindset that he’s not going to let the industry change him. Instead, he was going to change the industry.
    • Glenn experienced massive growth that’s unheard of, increasing sales by 800% in just five years. His business became the second largest used car franchise dealership in the country.
    • Through that success, he focused on developing people and making sure they had a life outside of work, teaching them not just job skills but also life skills.

[01:01:21] “We can train your people all day long, but if you’re not leading properly, you’re not going to get results.” - Click Here to Tweet This[01:03:53] What’s Next for Glenn
    • He’s just focused on being present and grateful for everything he’s been given.
    • Every vision, dream, or plan he’s had, God usually has something different in store for him.
    • The only thing he knows for sure is he will continue to serve people by making a positive impact in their lives.
    • He’s going to take his time to listen and allow God to guide their path without any expectations.

    3 Reasons to Listen:
    1. Learn valuable insights from Stephanie's journey of being an atheist to becoming a follower of Christ after spending a year in the United States.
    2. Discover how opening yourself up to different cultures is a life-changing experience.
    3. Redefine your definition of success and change your plans for the better just like Stephanie did.

    About Stephanie

Stephanie Rousselle is a wife, mother, podcaster, public speaker, Bible teacher, former World Women's Ministry Director, strategy consultant, and Gospel Spice Ministries founder.

If you want to know more about Stephanie's mission, visit the Gospel Spice Ministry's website for more information.

    Episode Highlights[02:23] Stephanie’s Work
    • Stephanie's goal is to put the spice back in your relationship with God. Gospel Spice Ministry is passionate about making you fall in love with Jesus at a deeper level.
    • For Stephanie, life is much more interesting and better when we follow God's way. Our life needs that “spice” that God provides.
    • She has not always been a follower of Christ. She grew up in France, where atheism reigns supreme.
    • She grew up in a culture that emphasizes intellectual achievements and self-sufficiency — different from God's teachings.

[07:44] Growing Up in France and Post-Truth Philosophy
    • Stephanie grew up in a French middle-class family that engages in post-truth philosophy. It entails the concept of having no absolute truth.
    • She realized that her worldview as an atheist was a fraud when she came face to face with a question someone asked her: how can you assess that relativism is absolute if there's no truth?
    • Stephanie never went to church when she was young. The Bible is assumed as a fairytale or a myth in their culture.
    • She embraced atheism as her worldview when she was a teenager. However, Stephanie admits that it is easy to embrace the culture you're in when you're not exposed to other cultures.

    [14:15] Coming to America
    • When Stephanie was in her senior year of high school, she came to the United States as a foreign exchange student for a year.
    • Unexpectedly, she spent that year with a family who are firm followers of Christ. This is her first exposure to the Gospel.

[14:57] The Dogma of Stephanie's Family
    • Your dogma is shaped by where and how you grew up.
    • Stephanie refers to her family as dysfunctional due to her dad being an alcoholic and womanizer. Her mom has to deal with the abuse that came from her father's overwhelming personality.
    • Stephanie's dad is too dogmatic. He views the world as a dog-eat-dog world. He wants her to succeed in business and be a “shark,” even if it means stepping on other people's toes.
    • Her dad’s views became her definition of success. On the other hand, her mom adopted Western New Age mysticism.
    • For Stephanie, atheism is the outward manifestation of a deeper-seated dogma. It taught her to be self-sufficient, and it is not a problem to eradicate others on her way to success.

[18:42] Finding Christ in Unexpected Ways
    • Stephanie admits that she wasn't seeking to fill anything with God in her life when she met Him. For her, part of it was her pride, arrogance, and upbringing.
    • She realized what Christianity meant by being with her American family.
    • Stepping out of her culture and worldview allowed Stephanie to embrace the teachings of Christ and question the post-truth mentality of atheism.
    • Experiencing other cultures and worldviews allows you to reevaluate your belief system based on someone else's experience through their own culture. It's a very humbling process.
    • All people have different ways of controlling their environment to cope with uncertainties. For Stephanie, it is through knowledge.

[25:12] "The reason why I can say that I used to be a very arrogant and intellectually minded young lady is because I'm none of these things anymore in so many ways. And it takes a path of humility and a lot of humbling to realize that God truly is the answer to all of your needs. And it's completely outside of yourself, freeing and very humbling." - Click Here to Tweet This[27:30] Breaking Down Early Assumptions about Followers of Christ
    • Sustaining a worldview that doesn't include love requires a judgmental spirit. Like Atheism, it makes you feel superior to other people.
    • Her American mom and dad welcomed her into their home with love, understanding, and forgiveness. They taught her a different flavor in life: putting someone else above herself.
    • She discovered the trustworthiness of God whose existence she actively denied.
    • Her American family didn't force their religion on her. Instead, they prayed for her. Feeling grateful for their actions, she came to church and met other followers of Christ.
    • Later on, she realized that the Resurrection is a historical fact and understood that maybe she was not in control as much as she thought.

[40:50] Her Internal Battle with Christ
    • Stephanie wrestled with God for several months because she wanted to remain in control of her life.
    • The only way she can know whether God is trustworthy is to give him a chance.
    • Stephanie laid an ultimatum with God, finding an excuse not to believe in Him. For about a week, Stephanie was deciding if she will believe that God is real and trustworthy. If she doesn't like what happens, she will go back to her old self.
    • After that week, it was clear that God changed her life for the better, and she never looked back ever again.
    • When you experience intimacy with God, it's hard to go back.

[43:05] "And I came to the realization that the only way I can know whether God is trustworthy is to give him a chance of trusting." - Click Here to Tweet This[48:21] Gospel Spice Ministry
    • Stephanie started to study scripture and accumulate a lot of knowledge about God to reshape her mindset. It took a lot of work and humility to replace her worldviews with biblical worldviews and redefine her version of success.
    • When God takes hold of you, He gives you His vision for what He wants for you.
    • While discovering scripture for herself, she is also uncovering a desire to tell others about it. She wants other people to experience the love of God, as well.
    • Gospel Spice Ministry is all about allowing others to experience the goodness of God through scripture and intensifying their intimacy with Him.

[51:13] "So at the same time that I'm discovering scripture for myself, I'm discovering a desire, a hunger, a passion, to tell others about that. Because the last thing I want is to be mediocre in my faith in the sense of, I want to know and experience as much of God as I can in this lifetime. And I want that for you, too." - Click Here to Tweet This[55:55] The Importance of Experiencing Other Cultures
    • Understanding other cultures requires a teachable spirit. You can't have a teachable spirit unless you have humility.
    • You find yourself questioning your upbringing and culture when you step into a different culture.
    • Stephanie lived in different continents. Being a follower of Christ and experiencing other cultures changed the way she viewed her career and future.
    • When she is met with a culture that contradicts the biblical worldview, she gives respect, separates, and reminds herself to be disciplined by reading the Bible.

[58:09] "What culture does is that when you step into a different culture, if it's a different language, if it's a different dress code, if it's different traditional roles for men and women, whatever it is, you find yourself by necessity questioning your own upbringing in your own culture. Because the people are doing things so differently than you are that they can't possibly be completely right or completely wrong. So it's not a matter of right and wrong." - Click Here to Tweet This[01:08:55] What's Next For Stephanie?

    • Stephanie chose the word Create as she loves creating content and watching people fall in love with God. However, Seek and Go both resonate with her deeply as they encapsulate the human longing.

    • Chris has personally been on both ends of the spectrum of political parties and is currently bipartisan.
    • He believes in the adage that young and idealistic people are liberal-leaning, and you become conservative the older you get.
    • There has to be civility for progress to occur as there will always be someone who fundamentally disagrees with you.
    • Prosperity and entrepreneurialism have raised people's standard of living more than any bureaucrat or politician has ever done.

[15:53] “We've got to be more civil to one another. Because when we are most civil with one another, that's when we can make the most progress for everybody.” - Click Here to Tweet This[18:50] The COVID-19 Pandemic Compared to 9/11 and the 2008 Financial Crisis
    • The difference lies in that we are battling an enemy that we cannot see, and we don’t know when it will end.
    • There is much more pessimism, as it is statistically worse than 9/11 or the previous Great Recession.
    • It is a strange and paradoxical time, and it feels troubling, exhausting, and heavy.
    • Nonetheless, he likes to view these instances as challenges and tests for growth.

    • Education has emphasized rote memorization and not enough critical thinking and other skills to prepare them for employment.
    • Chris has started to become less strict with his son when it comes to video games.

[35:19] How Orlando Is Coping with the Virus
    • Chris was thrilled to move to Orlando as the weather was perfect, it was welcoming and hospitable. It was indeed “the happiest place on Earth” for him.
    • The population has grown tremendously, but it is rare to find someone who was born in Orlando.
    • Due to the closings, there have been plenty of transportation infrastructure, construction fixes, and reforming roads.
    • There are tons of tourist spots and landmarks in Orlando, and it’s just a matter of time before people visit again.

[47:59] The Premonitions of the Pandemic
    • Chris and his company were off to a great start during the early months of 2020.
    • The government’s economic stimulus for small businesses has drastically increased their workload and logistical considerations.
    • Listen to the full episode to learn the arduous process Chris had to pivot around to help small businesses.

[48:15] Adapting to the Pandemic’s Unpredictability
    • Despite having good intentions, the government’s spread of information can’t help but be confusing and chaotic.
    • There has been a staggering amount of fraud due to the economic stimulus.
    • The mess of it all called for a different type of leadership, much like wartime leadership.
    • Chris used the economic crisis as an opportunity to become the first non-bank to access capital from the Federal Reserve.
    • It was a massive effort and a time-consuming process, but it was ultimately a lifesaver for his clients.

[50:46] “I very much did feel like this is economic warfare, and we were on the front lines, and it's chaotic and hectic.” - Click Here to Tweet This[54:39] How His Staff Handled the Crisis
    • Chris believed that if you play by the rules when the rules aren’t laid out, you are disadvantaged.
    • His staff broke down within the first month as clients were increasingly desperate. They had to outsource call centers due to the volume of inbound calls.
    • People deal with adversity differently, and Chris was thankful that his staff had such strong character.
    • Unfortunately, he still had to let some people go as they were paralyzed by fear and unable to do anything.
    • They had to do some detective work to uncover the large number of frauds attempting to take advantage of the American taxpayer.

[57:53] “In times of crisis, I think it really brings out people's true character. For good, and for bad. Fortunately in my case, I’ve had great character people.” - Click Here to Tweet This[01:02:24] Business Trends Chris Witnessed
    • Given a choice not to take the money and lay people off, Chris believes it's still best to participate in stabilizing the economy.
    • Chris remembers discussions where he argued that the pandemic would be longer than a few months, and they had to go big.
    • The priority is to avoid anarchy by rebuilding the economy.

[01:04:38] “This is all about stabilizing the economy, because if you don't stabilize the economy, eventually people end up on the streets with pickets and torches, and that's, we don't want that. You know, that's, that's what we're trying to prevent.” - Click Here to Tweet This[01:05:25] Economic Forecasts in 2021
    • Chris expects more legislative tweaks and forgiveness of loans less than $50,000.
    • Forgiving loans and government grants live up to the true spirit of the law.
    • If the government doesn’t come up with something soon, the desperation will only increase during the fourth quarter and 2021.
    • Regardless of the outcome of the election, small businesses, which are bipartisan, should be protected.

[01:13:31] Words of Wisdom from Chris
    • Your priority is to protect your livelihood, and you will make tough decisions and sacrifices regarding your expenses.
    • Sometimes, reducing overall revenue by cutting unprofitable service or product lines would ultimately increase net profit in the long-term.
    • As much as it is tough to be a business owner, there has to be a balance between humanity and compassion.
    • As a man of action, Chris believes in being in motion to make a difference.

  • How to Be Proactive in Today’s Reactive World with Tim Winders

It’s been a month since we welcomed the new year, but it seems like the ghost of 2020 continues to haunt us. 2021 has barely started, yet it brings tremendous challenges. Watching the news, reading articles, and scrolling through social media can be tiresome these days. In today's episode, Tim will talk about the importance of proactivity and the downfalls of being reactive. He will discuss four categories to becoming proactive and answer some questions you have about his lifestyle, the podcast, and business.

    1. Discover the four big categories on how to act proactively rather than reactively.
    2. Learn how to avoid reacting too quickly when feeling intense emotions.
    3. Tim answers questions about their lives at the RV, starting the podcast, and mentorship

Episode Highlights[09:01] Tim Answers Your Questions!
    • Tim and his family work, travel, and live in an RV. It has been both a challenging and incredible experience for them.
    • The words seek, go, create, and now gave Tim reasons to move forward.
    • The show's theme was formulated through Tim's observations of his previous interviews and his passion for letting people understand the meaning of success.
    • For Tim, the biggest challenge facing businesses and leaders today is the lack of focus due to society's many distractions.
    • As a business and leadership coach, Tim works with people who consider themselves leaders in businesses, organizations, or families. If you're interested in working with Tim, connect with us at seekgocreate.com.

    • We all have a purpose. Unfortunately, many people are more reactive to circumstances instead of proactive.
    • Being reactive to the junk around you impacts your emotions and actions. It can prevent you from accomplishing what you're created to do.
    • Tim will share four categories that will allow us to be more proactive and less reactive to the world: mindset, actions, systems, and resources.

[23:29] "Unfortunately, what many people do going through life — instead of proactively moving towards that 'something’ — they react to all the circumstances, all the stuff, all the junk that's going on around them." - Click Here to Tweet This[24:09] First Category: Mindset
    • Establish and set your expectations. Avoid creating grandiose expectations nor low expectations.
    • Prepare yourself and expect to have distractions thrown at you.
    • Control what you can control. Many circumstances are uncontrollable; it will be better to deal and work with them than fighting them.
    • Choose your battles. Don't pour energy into unwinnable arguments and situations.
    • Know where you fit in the big picture. You are not the center of the universe; other things happen around you.

[24:17] “Our mind is the first battleground of being proactive versus being reactive.” - Click Here to Tweet This[31:02] Second Category: Actions
    • Establish the habit of having alone time. It's essential to have time to think, meditate, pray, or do nothing.
    • Avoid social media distractions. We live in a constant state of engagement that pushes us to react all the time.
    • Stay healthy and rested. Don't make big decisions when you're fatigued because you're more reactive when you're tired.
    • Moving your body helps clear your mind and get away from distractions. You're more proactive when you're rested.
    • Practice; use your muscle of focus — practice working on things without distractions.

    [38:42] Third Category: Systems
    • Our world is full of systems. Understanding them allows us to be more proactive than reactive.
    • Plan: Although we all have different personalities, planning our future goals allows us to be prepared for difficulties.
    • Strategy sessions: Listen to the full episode to know how Tim works with his clients in helping them strategize, review, assess, and adjust their plans to improve their businesses or organizations.
    • Mechanisms: Mechanisms allow us to have structure and systems in place to gather data and get input.
    • Use systems and tools to stay on track, be accountable, and not lose focus. Find project management tools that work best for you to monitor your plans.

    [44:30] Fourth Category: Resources
    • Don't isolate yourself or limit your connections with other people. Don't feel embarrassed about asking people for support.
    • Do not feel guilty or ashamed about asking people for help. We are in a society where we've got to begin reaching out and helping people more.
    • Begin building leaders and grow your team. Think about others' needs; build and encourage the people around you.
    • Self-awareness. Knowing ourselves is the best way to recognize our strengths, weaknesses, and passions.
    • Be with a wise counsel. Be with a coach, mentor, or someone who holds you accountable and initiates tough conversations with love and compassion.

[46:03] "I didn't have answers for a lot of what was going on and I began isolating myself. Do not isolate yourself because it becomes really easy to start reacting to things and becoming — I'll use a strong word here — more of a victim instead of being proactive, and taking charge of your future, and moving forward with goals, and establishing what you're supposed to do and accomplish." - Click Here to Tweet ThisEnjoy The Podcast?

  • Restoring Nations Through Reconstructing Work in Ministry with Mark Appleyard

With all the versions of truth around us, it’s easy to fall into the pit of deception. We often forget that Jesus is the only and absolute truth. When it comes to ministry, there are many deceptions and misalignments that can lead us astray from God’s love. But we have to remember that everything we do aligns with seeking God’s Kingdom. We have to operate from this perspective to build a ministry with the Father’s love at its core.

In this episode, we talk to Mark Appleyard, a pastor and mentor. Mark firmly believes that as people of God, we must restore nations to the fullness of His image. He shares how he relentlessly seeks to revolutionize ministry to spread God's love. Mark also successfully created Anothen, a micro church that has changed over 15,000 lives.

Listen to this episode if you want to learn how to incorporate ministry and God’s truth into your life.

    3 Reasons to Listen:
    1. Understand how to discern God's truth and love.
    2. Learn how to apply ministry in your work.
    3. Discover how the virtual micro-church, Anothen, was created.

    About Mark

Mark Appleyard is a church pastor, business and leadership mentor, published author, and a global public speaker. He is also the founder of the micro-church movement, Anothen.

If you'd like to reach out to Mark, you can contact him on their website, LinkedIn, or send an email to [email protected].

    Episode Highlights[03:08] What Mark Does
    • Mark and his wife believe that God, through His people, can restore nations to the fullness of His image.
    • They advocate for their belief through coaching business leaders of all sizes and working in micro-churches.

    [5:34] What “Restoring Nations” Means
    • The primary thing that Jesus did was not to defend but to reveal the Father.
    • That said, “restoring nations” means inspiring people to be revealers of the Father's heart or love.

[8:00] Humanity’s Position in Revealing God
    • There are indicators that we are doing very well and, at the same time, very poorly.
    • We are doing poorly because of the election cycle, where we end up trying to manipulate other people's behavior.
    • But when Mark sees what the people he connects with does, he realizes that we are also doing very well.
    • Right now, there is a great opportunity for hope and expectancy.

[10:07] “To take hold of the opportunity of a lifetime, you got to take hold of it within the lifetime of the opportunity.” - Click Here to Tweet This[11:26] Deception vs. Hope
    • Deception is a crooked line making itself appear straight.
    • Truth is Jesus; he is the straight line. Anything misaligned from Him is deceptive.
    • You have to be hyper-intentional of what the truth would say, its inflections and tones.

[17:37] “If you don't spend time with someone, you will not know their voice and know who they are.” - Click Here to Tweet This[18:04] How to Develop a Relationship with the Father
    • Mark uses a tool called the S.O.A.P. model of journaling: scripture, observation, application, and prayer.
    • Journaling regularly though this model changes the trajectory of your spiritual life.
    • The real intentionality in that process zeroes the laser pointer of the Holy Spirit talking to you. It’s full of “me,” “my,” and “I” statements.

[21:39] Mark's Life Before Moving to the U.S.
    • Mark grew up in a dairy farming community at Wilsons Promontory, Victoria, Melbourne in Australia.
    • He did not become a believer until his late teens. Meanwhile, his business side roots from doing an apprenticeship as an electrician and running a small electrical subcontracting business.
    • He ended up in ministry in his early 20s and was always co-pastoring until he encountered his spirit-filled life.
    • Mark then went to Hawaii, where he met a pastor from North Carolina. Two years later, Mark joined him to serve as staff at Crossroads, United Methodist Church.

    [27:46] Balancing Work and Ministry
    • Mark believes that pastors are not the most influential spiritual leaders in the world.
    • Pastors tend to hold the mortgage on what ministry is, and Mark wants to smash this idea. It’s all ministry; not one is more valid than the other.
    • A person in business has a more significant influence because he has already demonstrated favor over towns, cities, and nations.
    • It is saddening for Mark to see people in business building their own thing-dom instead of God's Kingdom.

[29:01] “There is ministry and there is work as ministry. It's all ministry, and one is not more valid than the other.” - Click Here to Tweet This[31:27] On People in Business Who are Building Their Thing-dom
    • Mark quotes Colossians Chapter 1 in the Bible, where it explains the supremacy of Christ. He also quotes Matthew 28, where Jesus says that all authority is given to Him.
    • Mark refers to Corinthians 13 and 14, where it says to let love be your highest goal.
    • Love is the central nucleus that everything else orbits. For love to be love, it has to be in a culture of freedom that does not seek to control.

[33:09] “Love has just become the central thesis around which everything else orbits. Love has become the lens through which we view everything.” - Click Here to Tweet This[34:56] The D.P.R. Paradigm
    • Mark introduces the D.P.R. Paradigm, which groups Christians as “decreases,” “polices,” and “releases.”
    • Decreases are those who don’t submit to the authority of Jesus nor who access the power of the Holy Spirit.
    • Polices are those who submit to the authority but don’t access power. They set up rules around them to manipulate behavior to look like the supernatural.
    • Releases submit themselves to the old authority of Jesus and access the power of the Holy Spirit.

[37:42] Practical Application of Sharing God's Love
    • If you want to run a business, then KPIs will be your primary metric of success.
    • A Kingdom business's primary metric is K.R.I.s: key relationship indicators. These are honor, respect, dignity, and creativity.
    • With K.R.I.s, we can operate from a position of Kingdom freedom instead of performance-based fear and competitiveness.

[39:39] “How can I find a way to speak life into someone? How can I see the real person as the primary goal rather than how can I manipulate them to get this deal? That's a Kingdom business.” - Click Here to Tweet This[43:32] Creating Anothen
    • Mark refers to John 3:3, where Nicodemus asks Jesus what he must do to inherit God's Kingdom. Jesus tells Nicodemus to be born again.
    • The word “anothen” means “from above.”
    • Anothen was birthed to help people think, speak, and live on earth in all aspects of life as it is in heaven.
    • The institutional body of Christ is no longer working for most business leaders. They deconstructed everything that they built in the ministry to build something that genuinely has love at its center.
    • Listen to the full episode to learn about the logistical birthing of Anothen in detail!

[52:17] Deconstruction of Work in Ministry
    • The metric of ministry success for the longest time is how big your church is. The church building is a status symbol for pastors.
    • While journaling and fasting, Mark discussed with the Lord to change the metric. The metric will be whether or not he was able to facilitate an encounter between God and people.
    • They launched around two years ago and now have micro-churches in five countries and have already reached 15,000 people. As part of that, they were also able to develop a system of coaching and training micro-church leaders.

[59:09] The Micro-church Model of Ministry
    • For Mark, having Anothen during the pandemic is not the goal but a by-product.
    • He explains that the Christian community does not talk about scalability. Hence, the micro-church is a very efficient model of ministry.

[01:04:28] Insights on Local Churches Months From Now
    • Research shows that there will be a 20% decline in open churches.
    • Anothen has proven for five years that virtual discipleship is just as impactful as being in a room together.
    • There’ll be a shift toward a leaner model of the expression and answers versions of the church we have right now.

[01:09:09] Business Solutions Coaching of Anothen
    • He knows how to heed God's voice, and he wants to help business leaders learn to do the same.
    • They refuse to sign contracts because they want to rely on mutual trust in building the Kingdom.
    • There is no right or wrong answer on how much a client must pay.

    • He uses the money he makes from that to change the world through The Gabriel Project.
    • Listen to the full episode to learn about Mike’s Guinness World Record participation as a speaker in the recent Podfest!

    [05:38] Mike’s Experiences with Startups
    • Mike shares his experiences working with five different startups. These startups include an internet consultancy, an electronics reseller business, a church, a coworking office space, and The Gabriel Project.
    • At one period, he ran the largest sales team in an entire business and reaped about a billion dollars in revenue.
    • For him, being hyper-focused is a critical part of his personality that gets him to make things happen. He has a very singular “go big or go home” mind process.

    [12:35] Fusing Faith and Business
    • Mike has experienced working entirely on business, entirely on ministry, and a hybrid of the two.
    • His experiences led him to focus on business primarily, using it to support a non-profit to help others.
    • We usually value what we are involved in the most, making us opinionated about what others are doing.

    [16:41] All About WorkLodge
    • WorkLodge was founded on a need to create and provide a workspace and community for entrepreneurs. This was before coworking spaces became a trend.
    • Established in 2013, the company has helped many entrepreneurs focus on their business by providing facilities.
    • The goal was to build a meaningful network of organic, two-way relationships.

[21:33] “People need to be connected to other people. We are built in the image of a God who is three in one, there is clearly something there. He isn't an island, and we aren’t made to be that way either.” - Click Here to Tweet This[22:21] A Heart for Exceptional Service
    • For Mike, exceptional service is treating everyone the same as you would with God.
    • A heart for service means caring and being genuinely interested in others. When you genuinely care, there is no need for a “checklist.”
    • As a business, they have set guiding principles and core values early on to help them discover what they aspire to be. They want to be authentic, passionate, generous, humble, and be a little “bonkers.”
    • One of their principles is to do what’s best for the business, including taking care of people. Processing everything through that lens helps Mike find answers and know the directions he needs.

[22:22] “The idea of exceptional service is . . . the Bible says that whatever you do, do it as if you do it for God.” - Click Here to Tweet This[29:04] The COVID Impact on the Community
    • From a staffing perspective, there is a lot of anxiety, worry, and fear surrounding the pandemic.
    • It’s hard for him to see colleagues’ businesses fail. Their empty coworking space amplifies that feeling of loss.
    • The current employment situation makes it hard for Mike and his team to recruit and get the staffing level back up.
    • He believes that communities are more important now than ever. Social media is popular because it fosters connection with others. But then, Mike believes that online interactions can never replace physical ones.
    • With their business’s nature, they didn’t see a lot of success with their membership base conducting virtual get-togethers.

    [37:26] The Struggle with Money
    • Mike shares how he hates money. He hates what it does, what it stands for, what it does to society, the world, and people.
    • It’s heartbreaking how people do things they don’t want to do for the paycheck.
    • Two forces create the endless pursuit of money: creating systems where things are expensive and borrowing money to get them. It’s a cycle that keeps us trapped.
    • Learn to live modestly. Don’t spend more than what you make; do not become a slave to anything.

    [41:46] Defining of Success
    • Mike owes his success to having a childhood where he never got free money; he always had to work for it
    • There are many CEOs who grew up poor. Their experiences help them manage and stretch their money, guiding them to be more careful with their expenditure.

    [45:57] Stewardship Over Money
    • Mike shares the internal pressure he feels as a leader in keeping his customers and staff satisfied through his business.
    • As a leader, he has to pivot, change, and evolve quicker and faster.
    • Another layer of this pressure is the urge to help people through his non-profit organization.
    • He views money as a gift from God and a way of God’s trust in him. Because of this, he always aims to handle his finances well.

[50:13] “Because I feel like the more (money) you get, the more you feel like you're gonna wrap your hands around it. And the more pressure you feel about not wanting to lose it all, and I'm having to fight hard to keep the perspective that I've got nothing to lose, because it's not mine anyway.” - Click Here to Tweet This[51:10] The Gabriel Project
    • Gabriel Project is a full-on 501(c)(3) organization. Their goal is to give at least 10% of their gross revenue.
    • It focuses on three specific areas: orphan children and children in extreme situations, women victims of human trafficking and physical abuse, and folks who need emergency assistance. The majority of the focus is on the first two.
    • They partner up with organizations and support groups for their cause. The Gabriel Project aims to create self-sustaining communities that can help each other.
    • Their goal is to send a couple of people who are experts in entrepreneurship and spiritual development to a developing area. Listen to the full episode to learn more about the international projects of the Gabriel Project!

    [01:03:27] Making Things Work
    • We all have the ability to learn, grow, develop, and create. What we do with the skills we learned is down to us for a lot of it.
    • You have to learn to do the hard work and hustle for the results you want.
    • Mike believes that anyone can do great things with the right drive and motivation.

[01:04:54] “We have to just accept that we were created with the ability to learn, grow, develop, create. What do we do with that is down to us for a lot of it.” - Click Here to Tweet This[01:07:59] The Mike Thakur Show
    • Mike started his podcast because he struggled to find Christian entrepreneurs with whom he can relate.
    • Through the podcast, he hopes to inspire and make connections with fellow Christian entrepreneurs.
    • Moving forward, he wants to continue figuring out the balance of devoting time to seek His Kingdom and keeping that perspective within the business.

Finding our calling is a challenging journey of continuous growth, honing, and identity building. For many of us, our calling and purpose is tied to leadership and business. And while we have many great leaders today, the majority of them are men. However, many amazing women are born leaders who can change and impact the world. By developing nameless collaborations, men and women can work together toward achieving purpose and Kingdom advancement.

In today's episode, Cherice Stoltzfus joins us to relay her story of purpose and the challenges she went through to achieve it. She emphasizes the importance of women's leadership and participation in business through her organization, Nameless Collaborative. Cherice reiterates how men and women should complement each other. She also talks about security and how we can work to achieve it.

If you are currently at a place where you are establishing your calling, then this episode is for you.

    2. Know the role and importance of women in businesses and leadership.
    3. Find out which word in Seek, Go, Create resonated with Cherice the most.

    About Cherice

Cherice Stoltzfus is the founder of Nameless Collaborative, which aims to encourage and connect women in leadership roles. Cherice has 20 years of experience in ministry leadership. Together with her husband, Dwayne, she also founded several businesses and Kingdom-focused projects in the United States and internationally.

To connect with Cherice and her organization, you may send an email to [email protected] or [email protected].

    Episode Highlights[02:51] What Cherice Does
    • Her life has two different categories: home life and running an organization.
    • She founded the Nameless Collaborative in 2017 for Christian women in leadership.
    • The organization connects international Christian women leaders into forming a community.

    [05:20] Cherice’s Background
    • She grew up in a dysfunctional, broken home.
    • Cherice grew up in California but moved to Idaho at the age 14 to live with her father.
    • A friend from school invited her to a youth group one night, where she heard the voice of God for the first time.
    • That night, she gave her life to the Lord, which changed everything. This experience was the foundation of her relationship with God, along with the rest of her life and relationships.

    [10:39] Challenges as a Teen
    • Although there were still challenges, Cherice felt a call to ministry after her encounter that night. The whole trajectory of her life, including her plans, changed because of it.
    • Cherice wanted to learn the foundation of the word “ministry” and start her leadership journey in the ministry. She ended up going to Christ for the Nation, a bible school in Dallas.
    • Despite facing pressure to go to a traditional college, she felt instant belongingness in the bible school.

    [14:05] What Calling Means
    • Calling is the innate desire we feel inside of our hearts to make a difference. It is purpose.
    • Cherice had a great desire in her heart to minister. While she didn’t know exactly what that would look like, she knew she wanted to start there.
    • The vision of Nameless Collaborative is for women who have a clear understanding of their purpose. Furthermore, they must be on the path to creating a ministry, organization, or a Kingdom-focused business.
    • Cherice and her husband felt the same calling when they first met: to go to the unreached people groups.
    • But purpose changes over time. Upon learning, growing, and evaluating the situation, she and her husband started their first business in 2006, which became a success.

[24:22] Business in the Christian Realm
    • Business in the Christian realm is a blue ocean; it is so wide open. However, she feels Christianity is somewhat behind in the world of business.
    • Cherice and her husband moved to China for a year in 2010. There, they built a legally-licensed marketing company with a Chinese business partner, distributing Christian content on over 20 websites in China.
    • Through the years they were overseas, they worked with different business partners. Some of them were family members.
    • Good and open communication is key to avoiding issues when running a business from a distance.
    • They constantly remind themselves of the work they’re doing because, as humans, we can get discouraged fast. Everything is part of God’s plan.

[31:53] “We have to continue to remind each other all the time of the work we're doing because you get discouraged fast.” - Click Here to Tweet This[33:35] Weighing Between Business and Calling
    • Cherice did not struggle with balancing ministry and business.
    • All is ministry as long as you’re obedient to God’s calling for the season.
    • Everyday life is ministry, not just your occupation.
    • Listen to the full episode to know how Cherice’s family acquired and overcame the COVID-19 infection.

    [42:55] How Nameless Collaborative Began
    • Cherice got the idea to build the organization after seeing her husband collaborate with men in business.
    • It dawned upon her how these types of collaborations are rare with women.
    • Cherice envisioned the organization as a community of women who lead and understand the dynamics of being a leader.
    • She then began to look for women that could “sharpen” each other.
    • It is called the “Nameless” because it is not about making their names great but making His name great to advance the Kingdom.

[47:43] The Dynamic Among Women Leaders
    • The atmosphere was collaborative rather than competitive.
    • Women are free to share what they do and who they are.
    • Nobody's bragging because everyone is of high capacity.
    • Everyone feels secure in who God wants them to be and what He’s called them to do.

[50:40] How You Can Work Toward Security
    • Cherice believes that security is found in your identity. Without identity, security is going to be a struggle.
    • Always maintain a posture of service and try to create a culture of serving.
    • Do not compete. Be real, and don’t put yourself in a position that’s fake.
    • Rather than focusing on prolonging insecurity, spend your time on what God has called us to do as Christians.
    • Leaders should always be in a position of cultivating.

[53:11] “A lot of us can call ourselves Christians, but I think it comes down to that relationship that you have with the Lord. It is a daily surrender to Him.” - Click Here to Tweet This[57:12] The Importance of a Routine
    • Cherice follows a regular morning routine that includes working out with her husband and spending alone time before the kids wake up.
    • Stewardship starts with yourself.
    • She feels like a different person whenever she fails to follow her routine.
    • Cherice spends some time in her routine to sit with the Father and be at the right place of peace.
    • It’s important to prioritize activities for the day. Cherice organizes activities in a planner and separates them into home life and work priorities.

[01:01:28] “Even if you have no spiritual relationship, just sit down quietly and try to listen.” - Click Here to Tweet This[01:03:37] What Men Need to Know About Working with Women
    • Women and men were created to complement each other and work together.
    • Be secure enough to listen to a woman’s point of view.
    • Find ways to work together.
    • Have a humble heart—you might not have all of the answers.

[01:07:14] Reaching Out and Connecting with Nameless Collaborative
    • Cherice works with people from different backgrounds. She looks for women who can lead other people.
    • She hopes to connect with women in a place of leadership and who need that kind of community around them.
    • Listen to the full podcast to learn more about Nameless Collaborative’s current and upcoming projects!

But can I look back and say that I have taken every opportunity that I believe I was supposed to take? If the answer is yes, I'm closer to success.
