    • He developed a decision matrix to hone in the core issue, earning him the reputation as the world’s fastest business turnaround expert.
    • He understands the importance of psychology in solving problems.

[05:51] Marco’s Pulse on the Pandemic
    • Nobody really knows what is going on.
    • The media should set aside politics; instead, it should focus on sustaining the world.
    • Leaders and influencers should hold the flag right now and use their power for good.

    [10:14] How Companies Can Recover
    • Communication is incredibly important to sustain your bond with the client.
    • Companies should be as transparent as possible to co-workers, employees, vendors, and customers.
    • Cut your expenses and go bare-bones. You can remove 30% of your expenses overnight.
    • You have to be in a foundation of cash right now.
    • Discern who is merely trying to get your cash and who has a proven record that will benefit you.

“Most business experts out there actually have a very tunneled vision when it comes to business.” - Click Here to Tweet This[15:50] Cash Is King
    • It makes sense to buy in the stock market right now, but keep the cash if you’re not willing to lose the money.
    • Learn to discern. Put yourself outside the scenario.
    • People are still optimistic right now; we might not have reached the bottom just yet.
    • Gear up and sit on cash so that you can buy when the appropriate time comes.

“We're literally at the cusp of the biggest transfer of wealth in human history that's about to happen right now.” - Click Here to Tweet This[21:21] The Different Types of Investors
    • Most venture capitalist firms usually start with their own money; eventually, they will have a fund.
    • It's a highly regulated industry with lots of due diligence required of them.
    • Angel investors are professionals with fewer requirements and can organize into a group to create a bigger investment.
    • Mergers and acquisitions are a science on how to use the four levers: cash, credit, funds, and internal financial mechanisms.

    [25:22] Future Potential Industries
    • After the crisis, the services sector will be well-positioned.
    • Blue-collar companies are also good, for they are technically sound. However, their business systems could still be streamlined and improved.
    • Most baby boomers are independent business owners who are now about to retire and sell their businesses.
    • There is a massive vacuum in wealth that needs to be transferred.

[31:34] How to Exit a Business
    • Businesses with the same industry and profit could be worth different amounts to two people.
    • An investor will always be willing to pay more for the business.
    • Even without improving net operating profit, one can sell the business through streamlining it first.

[34:55] How to Turn a Business Around
    • A business unfolds in a series of seven steps or gradients.
    • These gradients concern management, value creation, revenue generation, leadership, profitability, cash flow, and equity capitalization.
    • Listen to Marco explain each gradient in the full episode!

    [41:26] Identifying the Business’ Problem
    • Experts from different fields will always be biased in thinking they know where the problem lies.
    • Around 90% of business owners don’t know where their problem is but think they do.
    • These business owners end up wasting a lot of time solving the wrong problem.

“The biggest challenge is that most business owners think they know where the problem lies, but they don't know.” - Click Here to Tweet This[44:29] The General State of Leadership
    • Most business owners are delusional, thinking business is a science in that applying the right model will give them the results they want.
    • Leadership is heuristic. Push leaders tend to be poor leaders; pull leaders tend to be respected.
    • Situational leadership means you have the ability to understand external forces at play.
    • Most pull leadership traits should be adopted, but push leaders tend to excel in crisis scenarios.
    • Running a country is different as you are faced with impossible decisions and dilemmas.

    [51:36] Silicon Valley
    • The smartest people went to the best schools.
    • All the cash in the world is represented in those schools, and every fund is invested in technology.
    • Silicon Valley had an open-source culture where they share ideas and collaborate with each other freely.
    • After the cost of living exploded, the open-source culture isn't as strong anymore.
    • There is a mentality of entitlement and no more drive to reinvent the world.

“Most of business is not scientific. It is heuristic.” - Click Here to Tweet This[56:38] Thoughts on Tech Pioneers
    • The Zuckerbergs are trailblazers and have their own personalities.
    • Leaders such as Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates are typical geeks who did not expect their business to boom.
    • Congress will always try to regulate and mingle with their business.

    [01:01:53] Habits to Stay Sharp
    • Develop awareness and be organized.
    • Fix your bed. A confused environment leads to a confused mind.
    • Learn about your physical health and well-being not just when you're sick.
    • Manage your energy levels without using stimulants and depressants.
    • Humans have a seasonal diet, so shift your diet according to the season.

Episode Highlights[01:27] Mildly Eccentric and Moderately Crazy Kimberley

    • She tends to be cheesy and laughs frequently. At the same time, people trust her as a professional.
    • Kimberley commits to empowering people, particularly in terms of their health and finances.

    [08:20] Addicted to Growth
    • For Kimberley, growth is something that we should always expect to see. Growth brings her so much excitement.
    • Her whole life revolved around seeking God and creating a growth pattern in her own life.
    • Anybody can overcome their worst circumstances through the process of growth.

“Growth is something that we should expect to see on an ongoing basis, whether we’re talking about a business, a person, or a garden. If it’s not growing, it’s dead.” - Click Here to Tweet This[14:18] Why Kimberley Left A 6-Figure Job
    • Kimberley was a senior corporate tax manager. She had 20 years of tax experience.
    • She decided to take the road less traveled. As the poem goes, it made all the difference in her life.
    • She excelled at her job, but she wanted more. She left to do full-time marriage ministry.

“I needed to leave the game of thinking that my identity was somehow tied to my rank, that my value could be determined by an income or by what I had accomplished.” - Click Here to Tweet This[22:18] Kimberley’s ‘Dark Years’

    • She found comfort in the thought that God is in control.

[26:58] Why God Is Shaking Things Up
    • God is shaking what can be shaken so that what cannot be shaken will remain.
    • This is a time to recalibrate and to focus on what is essential.
    • God is working, but the enemy is working too.
    • We need to rebuke the enemy by seeking repentance.

“God is working, and He is shaking things up. I believe that in the season that we’re in right now, He’s shaking what can be shaken so that what cannot be shaken will remain.” - Click Here to Tweet This[31:56] The Abundance Mindset
    • God’s promise to give us an abundant life has not changed.
    • Having an abundance mindset changes our approach to what is happening now, especially during this pandemic.
    • Everything good comes from a recognition that God created enough.
    • The enemy focuses on what is lacking. If we focus on that too, we are more prone to sin.
    • If we understand that God provides everything, then there is no place for sin.

“Nothing good comes from the mindset of lack. Everything good comes from a recognition that God created enough.” - Click Here to Tweet This[40:02] The Gardening Analogy
    • Gardening relates to life in many different ways.
    • We reap what we sow.
    • Through gardening, we learn that there is a time to sow and to let things grow. There is a time to cut down and a time to pull out.

    [42:46] Kimberley’s Branding
    • Her son does all of her branding and marketing.
    • The color purple speaks of royalty, while the color pink speaks of femininity.
    • Kimberley’s logo stands for two different things—an oil-drop and the idea of growth.

    [46:58] Kimberley’s Essential Oils Business
    • At first, Kimberley was not interested in direct sales and businesses. Eventually, she became fascinated with the product.
    • She had a dream in which a song about oil was playing in her head. From then on, she knew that she was called to this business.
    • Kimberley has about $2 million in sales every month. There are about 70,000 people in her organization, and about 3,000 of them are actively earning.
    • Kimberley’s business is growing amid this crisis because it is an essential product. It serves people at a physical and emotional level.

    [58:16] doTERRA On Guard
    • The doTERRA On Guard is a combination of clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus, rosemary, and wild orange.
    • It is powerful supportive oil.

    [01:08:49] Seek, Go, Create
    • Kimberley chose the word “seek.”
    • During her period of darkness, she had been seeking after God.
    • Kimberley is looking to teach more people about the greatness of God.

“If I can do it, anybody can do it. But I worked really hard. I loved what I was talking about—I really believed in it. I saw people’s lives being changed, and that just fueled me.” - Click Here to Tweet ThisEnjoy This Podcast?

  • Do Your Willpower & Personality Determine Your Future Self with Benjamin Hardy

Many of us believe we have a fixed personality and it affects all our actions and choices throughout our lifetime. This thinking, though true to an extent at present, limits our ability to define our future.

In this episode, organizational psychologist Benjamin Hardy talks about his books Willpower Doesn’t Work and Personality Is Not Permanent. He poses a challenge to the prevalent view that we are defined by our past and personality types. He introduces us to the concept of the “future self” and how it can guide us to grow and become better individuals.

Tune in to this episode to know more about creating a better and more beautiful future!

    3 Reasons to Listen:
    1. Discover why your personality is not permanent and is, instead, significantly shaped by your choices.
    2. How to address your traumas and use them to realize the future you envision?
    3. How can you use this pandemic to change yourself for the better?

    About Benjamin

Dr. Benjamin Hardy is an organizational psychologist and the author of Willpower Doesn’t Work. His upcoming book, Personality Isn’t Permanent, challenges the view that personality is fixed and innate and provides science-based strategies for becoming the person you want to be.

To know more about Dr. Benjamin and his work, you can visit his website. You may also reach him through LinkedIn or his Facebook page.

    Episode Highlights[03:07] Benjamin’s Family
    • He and his wife got married in 2012 and moved to South Carolina.
    • His wife grew up with foster kids in her home, and he supported her desire to do the same.
    • It took them three months to go through the process of training and getting ready for it.
    • They ended up having three kids from the foster care system who are siblings.

     [10:43] Willpower Doesn’t Work
    • In the town where his foster kids grew up, no matter how hard they worked, their potential is radically limited by their circumstances.
    • When you give these kids support and opportunities, their lives will change.
    • Exposing yourself to new ideas is powerful.
    • The book challenges the concept that “you do everything yourself.” It explains that context and situations matter a lot more.
    • It views people vis-à-vis their environment rather than thinking of them as an individual and isolated being.

“From my perspective, your ability to make choices and have agency is limited by your context, by what's available to you. If you don't have options, you can't make choices.” - Click Here to Tweet This[16:29] The New Normal
    • When you change any part of a system, the whole system changes.
    • Since the world is fundamentally different, it would be impossible for certain things to go back. The system will not go back to what it was before.
    • Proactive and forward-thinking people will adapt; others will be traumatized and left to pick up the pieces for a long time.

    [18:26] Facing the New Normal
    • Transitional periods are the times when you can get out of your rhythms.
    • If you make various changes now, it won't be that extreme to your environment because everyone is undergoing change.
    • This is the perfect opportunity to make the desired changes and start anew.
    • Think of your future self. Who do you want to be?
    • Start making decisions based on who you want to be versus who you have been.

[20:53] Making the Most of an Opportunity
    • If you do not have a future self you are striving to be, it will be tough to be intentional. It will follow that it doesn’t matter who you are today.
    • You may get stuck with the situation, be reactive, and follow the herd mentality.
    • Things that matter matter now more than ever.
    • Listen to the full episode for Benjamin’s tips on living intentionally during this pandemic.

    [30:18]  Personality Is Not Permanent
    • When you empathize with other people, you understand them better. And when you understand them, you don’t box them into fixed categories.
    • Through his book, Benjamin wants people to be compassionate and understanding toward their former self.
    • The people who might have hurt you or led you down the wrong path deserve as much compassion and empathy.
    • If you can do these things, it frees you from your past and opens up your future.

“If you're committed to a future, you don't invest so much in episodes along the way. And in fact, you then choose to frame those so they can support you continuing towards your future.” - Click Here to Tweet This [33:50] The Victim Mindset
    • Things are happening either for you or to you.
    • Victims are people who do not understand emotional regulation and reframing.
    • Victims are committed to the past instead of the future. This limits their potential for growth.
    • If you're committed to a future version of yourself, then you fixate on the incidences in your life as they occur. Instead, you reframe them to support you.

[35:49] On Personality Tests & Identity
    • Personality tests can give you an identity. But this identity can give you a fixed mindset.
    • It is not who you are today that matters.
    • The problem today is that people over-identify with their personality. They do not hold it loosely enough to realize their future self is going to be different.
    • These tests give you a label, and you just confirm it instead of striving for the person you can become.

[39:49] Other Topics Tackled in His Upcoming Book
    • It also talks about how to reframe trauma and touches on why people do not change.
    • It shifts the focus on your future self instead of your past in understanding your behavior.
    • Also, it explains how your future self can drive your daily behavior.

     [41:15] On Trauma
    • Past experiences can shape what we do. We may think we are a certain person, but in truth we are just responding to the negative event we experienced.
    • Trauma freezes your personality. It keeps you stuck in the past.
    • In trauma, there is no emotional regulation. You just internalize things and do not deal with them.
    • Trauma isn't what happens to you. It's what you hold on the inside.
    • Listen to the full episode to know more about trauma and how to address it.

“What trauma does is it shatters your flexibility; it shatters your ability to learn. And instead, you have no future. Everything is based on what happened in the past.” - Click Here to Tweet This[52:20] On Spirituality
    • His faith in God affects his perspective.
    • Faith in God is a powerful thing to have, but it doesn’t take away his belief in science or in business. His faith supports both and helps him grow, learn, and seek change.
    • Life is like a classroom. Human beings are here to learn, grow, develop, and change.
    • From a Christian perspective, God can change the meaning of former sins or former pains. The past can be redeemed, and you can be transformed.
    • God is bigger than some label.

“You can't have motivation without hope. And so, motivation, hope, confidence, faith, courage—these things that make people exceptional—require striving for a future, not just dwelling in your current self.” - Click Here to Tweet This [57:18] Willpower & Decision-Making
    • We all have willpower, but it doesn’t always take us where we want to go.
    • Willpower is the ability to make high-quality decisions.
    • If you rely on willpower in bad situations, you’re probably going to make poor decisions.

[01:03:47] Message for the Readers of His Book
    • Read the introduction section seriously.
    • More than our abilities, it’s our choices that show us who we really are.
    • You can be your future self. If you don’t, then you have limited your ability to make choices.

“Regardless of what some personality tests told you are, regardless of who you've been in the past, you can choose to be different.” - Click Here to Tweet ThisEnjoy This Podcast?

[15:38] Opportunity Costs of Being a High Achiever
    • A lot of famous achievers missed a lot in their lives.
    • Clear boundaries must be set outside your business to help you get more out of life.
    • We need to have downtime to think through things.

    [24:25] Know Your Value
    • Start with your own value and the thought that you have something to say.
    • After focusing on your personal value, look into what you value the most in your immediate surroundings.
    • Afterward, go beyond and search for the higher world’s value.
    • These values affect the way you show up in your work.

“When you set some very clear boundaries or some very clear personal goals outside of your business, it then helps you get more out of life in a diverse way, where you have diverse experiences.” - Click Here to Tweet This[28:38] What Causes Change?
    • People should learn from others’ experiences; nowadays, they usually make decisions using analytics and feelings.
    • Other peoples’ stories can be a catalyst for you.
    • But most of the time, our own experiences cause change.

“The best way we learn is either through our own experiences or other people's stories. And that's why storytelling is so powerful.” - Click Here to Tweet This[31:39] Thoughts on the Pandemic
    • People tend to fall into two camps right now. Some go into a deep recession. Others take this as an opportunity to grow businesses and make the best out of the situation.
    • None of us knows what is going to happen. Most of us lack information.
    • We all have problems that were already there before this situation. The pandemic is like an ice that expands the cracks in our lives.

    • When private practitioners start, they usually do not put time on the SEO and meta description of their websites.
    • They usually miss out on the basics like blogging and website appearance.
    • You can use the pandemic as an opportunity to let people know of your specialization.
    • Delegate work and expand your network. Wearing many hats at once doesn’t work.
    • Hire people to write blog posts for you or do your marketing. You may also use your free time to work on the business and marketing side of things.

    [46:57] Signing Up on Masterclass

    • Decide what your podcast is going to be. Is it just going to be a hobby or a business venture?
    • If you want it as a business venture, address your community's pain points before you pitch your product.

    [55:01] Getting Started with Podcasting
    • Podcast Launch School starts with the basics of the technology used in podcasting.
    • Next, you will identify the pain you want to address and the people you want to work with.
    • Lastly, you will identify the transformation you want to offer.
    • Before they start recording their first episode, Joe encourages those in the program to write a nine-part email course for their audience.
    • The first three parts deal with why society has set your target audience up for failure. The next three are quick wins they can achieve in a week. The last three emails are about the long-term habits they must develop to be successful.
    • A workbook or handbook can be a companion to your podcast.

[57:24] What to Talk About During Podcasts

  • Marketing, Strategy, Faith & Family | Q&A with Evan Knox

With its emphasis on immaterial spirituality, faith might seem incompatible with worldly concepts like marketing. However, a spiritually-blessed life doesn’t have to be one without success and accomplishment. At its core, marketing is a conversion tool to turn people into clients, customers, and followers. All groups, from businesses to religious organizations, can benefit from marketing.

In this episode, Evan Knox shares a marketing model that organizations can use to simplify their brand building. He also draws from his personal experiences to make connections between faith and marketing.

    2. Learn how faith movements can benefit from good marketing.
    3. Find out how to rise above difficult times toward a brighter future.

    About Evan

Evan Knox is the founder of Caffeine Marketing, which makes unique and profitable marketing easy for small companies. He also founded CaffeineLabs, the education arm of his company,  which teaches entrepreneurs how to master their businesses.

    Episode Highlights[01:58] Evan's Beginnings
    • Evan grew up in Atlanta before traveling to various countries around the world, like Australia, Thailand, and the US.
    • He came up with Caffeine Marketing while reflecting on how entrepreneurs always liked to drink coffee.
    • The entrepreneurial hustle is overrated; people should be working smarter, not harder all the time.

“Most entrepreneurs and business owners just throw money onto the wall hoping something will stick.” - Click Here to Tweet This[08:01] Caffeine Marketing
    • Caffeine Marketing chooses clients carefully, ensuring that they can build mutually beneficial relationships with the people they want.
    • Instead of providing marketing content, the company focuses on strategies to ensure that clients can grow their businesses down the line.

“The whole hustle thing to me feels a little cliche. Like, I feel like you should work smarter, not harder all the time.” - Click Here to Tweet This[11:13] Marketing 101
    • Marketing starts with the first phase of brand awareness, where potential customers discover your business.
    • The second phase is consideration, where the business tries to convince people to work with them.
    • The last phase, conversion, results in people becoming customers.

    [13:27] StoryBrand
    • StoryBrand is a proprietary seven-part framework that puts businesses in the role of guides, instead of heroes.
    • With this approach, businesses guide their customers to work out their desires and to figure out the obstacles that keep them from what they want.

“Okay, well, this adversity can either crush me, and I can end up where my dad is at right now. Or I'm gonna decide to, you know, I'm gonna lean into the opposite of that, I'm gonna lean into this new faith that I've kind of discovered.” - Click Here to Tweet This[24:11] Family and Growing Up
    • Evan's father and grandfather both work in the jewelry business. Growing up with them helped Evan develop his marketing skills.
    • He always felt loved by his family, who enjoyed stability and abundance until his father started using drugs.
    • Evan's family lost their home, but he decided to use his newfound faith as a source of strength.
    • His experiences gave him a scarcity mindset, which ultimately drove his desire to uplift his family.

    [34:11] Faith and Marketing
    • With a belief in God, we realize that not everything is under your control, so we should do our best with what we can control.
    • Even faithful missions, such as those in the Bible, employ many marketing concepts, as they involve converting people to act by their faith.
    • Faith and marketing are distinct concepts, but they don't necessarily conflict. We can integrate them to achieve our goals.

“I can control some things, but I can't control everything. And I look at that, and I go, you know what, I'm gonna do the very best I can with the things that are in my control. And there is no sense of worrying about the things that are outside my control.” - Click Here to Tweet This[46:25] Achieving Growth With Marketing
    • Start with assessing your current situation when it comes to brand awareness.
    • Reflect on how you influence your customers to make their lives better. Be a guide that educates, not a hero that solves others' problems for them.
    • Finally, assess your conversion funnels. Make it easy for people to commit to calls-to-action.

    [53:19] CaffeineLabs
    • With CaffeineLabs, Evan works with companies to help grow their businesses in ways beyond marketing.
    • Business mastery enables entrepreneurs to find innovative ways to keep on growing.

    [59:44] What's Next?
    • Evan is currently working on developing a micro private equity group.
    • His goal is to become financially independent, enabling him to travel and work with nonprofits as much as he wants.

    [01:01:13] Seek, Go, Create
    • For Evan, “create” stands out as it has the most internal resistance associated with it.
    • To create means to put pen to paper and to make it happen.
