The Voldat sisters Viola and Vivienne (Ve Ve for short) grew up wealthy in the folds of the affluent but oft-troubled Voldat family. Young Vivienne was sent away to the asylum Ludlow, and due to her defiant nature, Vivienne was given aggressive treatments. From the other Curio reports, it sounds as if the sleepwalker activity has reduced in the city. I don't know why it started in the first place. I don't know why it has subsided, but my hunch is going forward that they will come in and flow out like a tide whenever whoever is controlling them needs to advance their plans.

I’m sorry for the restraints Mr. Goodman. I know you just want to go home, but you’ve been sick. And we need to run a few tests before we let you leave. I’m going to have them remove your gag, as long as you promise not to scream...

Millie Minerva had taken over the duties of brewing the crabapple cider from her fasting sister Mercy, the shame eater. It was sweet with a sharp tang that woke up the tongue and provided a lovely light buzz like a spring breeze. Millie’s wasn’t as quite as good as Mercy’s used to be, but only the family could tell and they couldn’t keep the bottles stocked fast enough.

Mercy Minvera, a fasting girl, had quickly been monikered The Shame Eater for her ability to pull the shame from people and provide relief with her touch. The Minerva sisters - enterprising young girls, started selling cider, and homemade soaps to those standing in line waiting for a visit with Mercy. Any guilt about exploiting their sister's ability slowly washed away with the dreams of buying the neighboring plots of land and re-establishing the Minerva family crabapple orchards.

The Minvera family lived in a fine two-story home, with a wraparound porch, scalloped wood trim like fish scales, a short round tower with a cone roof, and a tiny balcony off the second-story bedroom. It was an inheritance leftover from what was once the family house that looked over a great orchard, but now it sat on a small, uneven plot of land fenced in on each side over time by different neighbors so that each section of property fence ended in odd places with odd alleys between them...

The parasites are spreading, making everyone act wild. The sleepwalkers are hunting Curios, something immolated an Overland Dust partner. There are roving clowns stealing faces, witches crawling out of music boxes, and a coal and ash man stealing children. Corruption and poisoners and now murderous sleepwalkers and something is sending wooden casks out into the city. A falling knife has no handle.

The nights in winter are longer, and colder and darker from the chill. The tracks we follow in the snow, the ones dusted into oblivion, where do they go? Who wandered out into the cold and into the nothingness of the dark? What hunts in that dark? What subverts its own safety to brave that cold?
