The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally attracts hundreds of thousands of motorcyclists from across the country to gather for the week-long rally, which runs officially from August 6-15. Unfortunately, an unsettling trend has been occurring during the rally. From 2009 through 2020, 77 men have been arrested for sex trafficking during the motorcycle rally in Sturgis. The victims range in age from 12-15 years old. A large number of the victims are indigenous. South Dakota is home to 9 reservations. In 2020 a sting operation was held during the rally, and 8 men were arrested for attempting to engage minors, who were actually undercover officers, in sex trafficking.
