Shadow Politics with Senator Michael D Brown
The Expulsion & Reinstatement of  'The Justins' -  A Black & White Issue? We will talk with Tennessee State Representative GLORIA JOHNSON! Last month, two Tennessee State Representatives — Rep. Justin Jones and Rep. Justin J. Pearson — were expelled from the state's House of Representatives by a Republican majority following a protest over gun violence that made its way onto the House floor. Although Rep. Gloria Johnson had also participated in this activity, as the only white person, she was able to escape expulsion. I will discuss with Rep. Johnson why this happened, what the status of 'The Justins' is today and what now lies ahead for "The Tennessee Three." Join us as we discuss racism in America, guns and what comes next.

Is a threat to justice everywhere.
    DC Emancipation Day with
    MAYOR SHARON PRATT
In 1990, native Washingtonian Sharon Pratt was elected Mayor of Washington, DC - the first African American female to hold such a position in the US. In 1995, Mayor Pratt served as a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University’s Institute of Politics. Pratt served as the President of @ The Center, a start-up digital platform enabling B to B transactions with Africa (1997-2001). In 2002, Sharon began Pratt Consulting, working with companies, nonprofits and governments. She also serves as Founding Chairman of Home Preservation Exchange, a nonprofit focused on stabilizing neighborhoods by acquiring troubled mortgages.
In 1985, Sharon was elected Treasurer of the Democratic National Committee - the first woman to hold that position.
Mayor Pratt currently serves as the Founding Director and an Advisory Committee Member of UDC's Institute for Politics, Policy and History.
MESSAGE FROM UNITED STATES SENATOR MICHAEL D. BROWN
As we celebrate the 161st anniversary of DC Emancipation Day, Mayor Pratt will join us to discuss the significance of this holiday and how it relates to our fight for DC statehood. Recent events on Capitol Hill have been a set-back for our movement. We will discuss the damage and what we need to do to move forward.
Mayor Pratt, one of my favorite guests, will help us shed a light on the complicated relationship between DC and Congress.
    Make sure you tune in!

U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) Proposes Abolishing Home Rule
    WHAT NEXT?
    A Conversation with
    COUNCILMEMBER BILL LIGHTFOOT
    What Should We Expect?
    SHADOW POLITICS
After serving two terms as an At-Large DC Councilmember, Bill Lightfoot remains active in politics and has chaired four mayoral campaigns. Lightfoot continues to serve on the DC Judicial Tenure and Disabilities Commission that reappoints and disciplines judges. Bill is an avid golfer, often enjoying comradery with members of the Washington, DC Chapter of the Pro-Duffers. He has served for 39 years as a lead attorney litigating multi-million dollar cases in the courts of the Metropolitan Washington Area.
Bill Lightfoot was on the Council when Congress imposed the "Control Board" on the DC government in 1995. Some Republican senators are now hinting on Twitter that they want to roll back Home Rule. Is local DC headed for another show-down with the federal government? Could this really happen? We'll ask Bill for his take on this latest threat to democracy in DC and what we can expect in the future.

MESSAGE FROM UNITED STATES SENATOR MICHAEL D. BROWN
It was ill-conceived of our City Council to send up a bill on the revision of DC's criminal code when the Republicans are attacking Democrats all over the country as being soft on crime. For the first time in a generation, both houses of Congress have overturned a District law and the president has vowed to sign it. Republicans have already put in another resolution of disapproval for an existing DC law and called two councilmembers and additional DC government employees before the House Oversight Committee.
