In this episode I sat with a magician- Mr. Jacques le Sueur. Jacques is a magician who performs at private parties, he has performed for 9 presidents, for child soldiers in a jungle in Congo and also gangs in Cape town. His charity work - Magicians without borders - is a project where him and magicians from across the world travel to townships & areas impacted by gang violence to rescue children from the dangers that they face. Their goal is to teach children magic and familiarise them with an art form that can keep them away from the harshness of their communities.
Jacques believes that through his magic, he helps people re-discover the kid in themselves. He is well-read on the history of magic and how tricks have evolved over the past. It was quite impressive to see that he keeps up with the magic world and is invested in his craft.
Magic is an art form that is unique because the art is in the making of the art while an audience consumes it.
I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about all of his crazy stories and about his travels around the world. You don’t get to sit with a magician every day! Low key I’m still blown away by the magic tricks he showed me when he first arrived at my house. Can’t figure out how he did them. Magic?
