Shoujo Sundae

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana and Chika review the first three episodes of Kimi Ni Todoke! In episode one, Kuronuma Sawako struggles to interact with her classmates after being branded as cursed because of her resemblance to Sadako from the horror film The Ring. Her classmates even refer to her as “Sadako”. Despite this, she is able to speak with a popular boy, Shouta Kazehaya, who invites her to the school’s test of courage event. Through this, Sawako becomes friendly with two more classmates: Yoshida Chizuru and Yano Ayane. In episode two, Sawako leaves her umbrella to cover a puppy left out in the rain on the way to school, and, later, Kazehaya decides to adopt him. The next day, Sawako’s class has a seating arrangement change, and nobody wants to end up with their desk near hers. Kazehaya, Chizu, Ayane, and Ryuu choose to sit near her, bringing her to tears. In episode three, Kazehaya and Sawako chat after school, and Kazehaya brings his new puppy, Maru-chan, along. He learns that she daydreams about teaching others. The next day, Kazehaya asks Sawako for help with schoolwork, and the rest of the class flocks over to be tutored by her. She smiles genuinely, taking her classmates off guard. Ayane and Chizu overhear rumors about themselves and are told by the girls spreading them that they were started by Sawako.

In this special episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana and Chika read Giana’s Whisper of the Heart (and The Cat Returns) fanfiction, The Baron and Louise’s Unofficial Epilogue. If you listened to our two-part Whisper of the Heart review, and our The Cat Returns episode, you’ll know that we had our gripes with the way Baron and Louise’s story had no resolution whatsoever. Today, that changes! Giana saw to it that those star crossed cat statues got their love story tied up in a bow just in time for Christmas this year.
