They've made otherworldly creatures for Game of Thrones and performed magical acts of illusion in Harry Potter films. And now a group of sculptors are taking what they learned on film sets over the last twenty years and using it to go beyond reality and challenge long-established perceptions. We sent Miranda Atty to meet the hyperrealists whose work is now on display as part of a special exhibition at London's Opera Gallery.

Starting from humble beginnings, Aylin Orek has lived and worked in half-a-dozen countries. Considered one of the leading artists of the Turkish Cypriot community, Orek's work was about bringing her culture to the world while travelling the globe to experience other cultures first-hand. Many of her paintings are now on display for the first time in Turkey. But as Showcase's Aadel Haleem discovered, her work extends well beyond any man-made borders.

Hot on the heels of the Golden Globes and less than a few weeks before the Academy Awards nominees are announced, come the British equivalent to the Oscars. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts nominations are out, and it's a female-powered film, that's received the most nods.

While it may be one of the world's youngest art collections, it happens to contain the most important pieces of Dutch art in the world. After its debut at Paris' Louvre Museum in 2017, the Leiden Collection then made its way to the National Museum of China in Beijing. And now, the Russian city of St. Petersburg is hosting to this extraordinary exhibit.

She married into the culture but embraced it as her own. Eren Eyuboglu became a Turkish citizen after marrying Turkish painter Bedri Rahmi Eyuboglu in 1936. But while many Turkish artists looked to the West for inspiration, Eyuboglu's artistry blossomed in Anatolia. Showcase's Aadel Haleem visited Ankara's CerModern to see how Eyuboglu's life was reflected in her art.

He's best known for his portrayal of Dutch domestic life and in particular his masterpiece 'Girl with a Pearl Earring'. Although Johannes Vermeer is a much-celebrated painter, he wasn't exactly a prolific artist. Only 36 paintings are widely recognized as being his creations, and they happened to be scattered around the world. But now, if you want to see them, there's a way to skip all that travel and see all of them at once.

To talk more about the 'Meet Vermeer' virtual exhibit, Showcase is joined by Emilie Gordenker. She's the director of the Mauritshouse, where Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring is on permanent display.

During the early 20th century, at a time when cinema was still a young artform passionate filmmakers made it their mission to constantly push the limits of the medium. One director in particular, Fritz Lang, attained master status for his innovative techniques and ability to re-invent cinema with each motion picture he made. His most important film, the black and white masterpiece Metropolis was made more than 90 years ago but to this day it can still be seen as a silent warning about a future which isn't that far off.
