Two artists, two different techniques and two regions… A Turkish artist creates marble scrolls, and a Chinese calligrapher inscribes them with passages from the Quran. They called this collaboration 'the new Silk Road' hinting at the old trade route. The artists presented their work with an exhibition at Istanbul's Nev Mekan complex. And Showcase's Nursena Tuter got this glimpse of the gallery.

The mysterious death of a Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi has been a political and diplomatic firestorm over the past three weeks. But the journalist's death and unknown whereabouts also had a huge impact on the art world. Columbia University cancelled an event with Saudi artist Ahmed Mater, who has ties with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman and was helping to organise the New York Arab World Art & Education Programme. In addition to that, major cultural institutions in New York, including The Met and the Brooklyn Museum announced their decision to block any donations coming from the Kingdom.

The Akbank Jazz Festival is in full swing here in Istanbul. More than one hundred musicians are performing from across Turkey and around the world. Among them is the Tarkovsky Quartet. The four musicians may be German and French, but they first came together in 2006 to pay tribute to the famous Soviet film director Andrei Tarkovsky. Their music has been described as startling and stark, modern and baroque.

And two of the four members of the band join Showcase in the studio: Pianist and composer Francois Couturier and cellist Anja Lechner.

To honour the legacy of legendary visual historian Ara Guler, we turn back the clocks to 1986. By then, Ara Guler was a 58-year-old photographer who had been taking pictures for more than 50 years. He loved to speak about his work almost as much as he loved to make it. Always outspoken and never one to mince words, his truthful abrasiveness was on full display in the interview you're about to see. Speaking with TRT's Dogan Hizlan, Guler makes clear the importance of documenting the world in its purest form, and why photography and art should remain separate disciplines.
